Ramsey looks lost - have we found Brunell

On the road today listening to sports talk 980, Weinstein was talking about how much better Brunell looks this year over last year. Brunell is more mobile and is hitting 20 yard out patterns in camp, which he could not do last year. Weinstein stated he believes Brunell was injured last year which really affected his performance on the field. If this is true and Ramsey doesnt look good tonight we may have a QB controversy brewing real fast. It will be interesting to see tonight if there is a real difference in the way Brunell plays over last year.

No, there won't be a QB controversy, at least not until week 8 or so. Gibbs has reaffirmed Ramsey as the starter a couple of times and I do not see him changing his mind.

But seriously, do you actually think Brunell is better than Ramsey? This is Brunell we are talking about. Believe me, he sucks.

Last year I think Ramsey was the better quarterback. Could that have been because of an injury to Brunell? I also remember Brunell was a pretty good qb in Jacksonville. If in the pre season Ramsey looks terrible, like he did last year in the pre season, and Brunell looks good I think the coach might have a change of heart real soon. We shall see starting tonight !!

personally i think brunell was hurt last season too--i dont know if anyone else noticed it when they were at fedex but he was always holding his wrist, maybe to support his elbow or just because his wrist hurt? it was kind of weird, but obviously it didnt keep him out of the lineup, his sucky play did. i wouldnt say never just yet, this is washington folks, quarterback controversy is next in line to replace Taxation Without Representation on license plates.

Ramsey, Brunell, Campbell

who will start - openning day, week 8, 12, 17?

my best guess - ramsey, brunell, brunnel, campbell

stick a fork in ramsey he is done. possibly the worst openning day starter in the NFL.

redskins should try to trade him to chicago for a 4th rd pick. terrible.

apparently you did not watch the skins at all last year or else you would've seen that brunell lost it basically overnight. the first preseason game the first couple of series' always look a little sloppy and usually the backup QB looks amazing because he is facing the second team defense.

Ramsey will start opening day easily.

He definately had some zip on the ball tonight and looked fairly sharp. Moved around the pocket pretty well too.

Ding, ding!

You sir, deserve a medal.

Hmmmm, Ramsey struggled a little in his first game of the season while throwing to ALL NEW RECIEVERS...

But Brunell! Let's start him! A veteran QB shredded the Panther's 2nd and 3rd team defense! WOW!!!

C'mon, are you freaking kidding me?

I know a lot of people think preseason is useless, but there's a reason these games get played, it's the same reason baseball players go on minor league rehab assignments, getting acclimated to the speed of the NFL game takes time.

Ramsey looks lost

I know you guys are expecting some hat'in on Ramsey, so here it goes: Dude is not ready to start (just stating the obvious).

WTF happend to this guy? I mean he's not even close to being ready, what has he been doing all camp?

And, no, don't give me that it's the first pre season game bull. It's not any thing physical, but it clearly is mental. Had it not been for some good catches by the receivere, P-ram would have been missing many of this passes.

If he doesn't get it turned around quickly, we're in for a heap of trouble this season. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the season rides on his shoulders, period.

I have always liked ramsey and always will but I agree. He looks like elvis in the pocket his feet move so damn much. Brunell looks like he doesnt care and has nothing to loose. Ramsey will start the next pre season game but you heard it here first I believe Brunell will be our starter. There is no way Brunell can have an amazing career year in and year out and all of sudden play bad one year. Its called a new system and a fluke. The odds of him playing that bad 2 seasons in a row is unlikely.Vets know how to bounce back. I know Ramsey has what it takes but he had plenty of time and still looks rushed.

I agree. Brunell has always been solid and I think last year was a fluke. However, I don't think Brunell will start for us, although after watching the game tonight, I wish he would. Ramsey sucks. Brunell looked really good. His passes were crisp and accurate, even when facing pressure. Brunell looked like he did before he was hurt. However, I'll see how the QB play is for the remainder of the preseason before I make my final judgement.

Ramsey was not completing passes. Brunell was, I dont care if it was against a bunch of 5 year olds. It pains me to say that. Ramsey looked like trash, he's too jittery. He's too uncomfortable in the pocket. :?

i have always been a big-time ramsey supporter/defender. i have always conjured up excuses and alibis for him. that was easy, with spurrier screwing up his mind and then destroying his body.

but now he is out of excuses. he is in his 4th year, he should be over his "green" period and coming into his own. he in the same system as last year, same coach. he should not look like he is completely lost and uncomfortable in the pocket, as he did tonight.

i have also been one of the most vitriolic opponents of brunell. last year, he was the worst QB i had ever seen. but the fact is he looked very good tonight. yes, it was against back-ups. he might not fare so well against the 1st-stringers. but i think the point those of us who are talking about brunell are trying to make, is that he can actually throw the football now. last year even if he had lined up against a bunch of high school kids he still wouldn't have been able to make a good throw, he simply couldn't do it physically. so we are all just amazed at how good his throws looked tonight. like a completely different player.

anyways, i don't think anyone here is saying "start brunell!" already. we're hoping ramsey picks it up and kicks some butt. but if he doesn't, and throughout the preseason ramsey looks that bad and brunell looks that good, we will simply want the best QB on the team starting at quarterback, whoever it may be.

i sincerely hope it is ramsey. i really like him and am also still disgusted at what brunell did to us last year.

i don't care if brunell looked like joe montana against those bums, i'm not forgiving him for last season so quickly.

Brunell looked pretty good, but still couldn't
generate points. If he's the best we've got, we're doomed. We're only talking about a guy who had a competent quarter against a second unit. If Ramsey doesn't shape up soon, we've got to go Campbell.

Preseason Games

I think what we all have to remember is that preseason games are not necessarily about wins and losses, they are about evaluating talent. Sure it would be nice to win, but what does that mean anyway? It doesnt help us when it counts. Any thoughts?

WOW this kid looked really good in the game. In fact played ALOT better than Ramsey. I'd love to see this guy start next week against the Bengals to see what he can do against a real D.

P-RAM looked like a deer in front of headlights. I think the best man gets the job and Brunell is all over it. Maybe he was injured last year, but hes not this year.

His poise impressed me the most. He looked even more comfortable than Brunell when being rushed. Brunell has the wisdom but he even looks scared sometimes, Jason always looks calm.

Give Patrick a break, He is our man and if he is succeeded, it will be by Campbell, not Brunell. The last time I checked we still play Football until Week 17, not until 3 minutes left in the 1st half of preseason game 1.

Definatly, remember 2002. Spurrier 38 49ers 7, did'nt we go 6-10 that year, not to mention the year after

Brunell was obviously injured last year! I mean after the first game he had to play with a brace on his leg the rest of the year. When he is healthy I think he can still play.

As for Ramsey, give the guy a break. It was ONE GAME! The first real game in eight months. It wasn't a 7 on 7 practice in training camp! I think we're all overreacting here. It's funny because Ramsey didn't look comfortable in the pocket when he actually had good protection but when Carolina blitzed he actually read them reasonably well and made some smart plays to avoid them. He couldn't do that in the past. He improved greatly on his weaknesses last year and I think he can do it again. Give him some time before we decide that he sucks.
