I seem to be excited for this preseason more than anyother in recent memory. I guess it is because I have followed the team so much during the offseason and know so many of the "role" players or second, third string guys.

All the pieces are there. But not all of them are in the right place. Coaches still will have to decide who starts in several spots. Competition is good and we will only begin to have an idea about the strength of our depth during the pre-season.

All I hear (and read) these days is how the Redskins have had a worse offseason this year than in years past. I, for one, think the Redskins are in much better shape this year than before. Even with the expected loss of S.T., the Redskins have a lot of depth and are looking to change how they do things on offense. I ask you: What's *NOT* to be excited about?

This is part of the reason I am looking forward to this season. IMO this team is a lot more team oriented and the depth is a lot better at many positions. We have seen that both Joe and greg place a lot of importance on the team concept and we should see this in much better performance by everyone this year. You have to be talented to play well in the NFL but not too many teams have the talent level we do in our coaches and they will utilize that talent very well this year.

I also feel that Joe will show us why he is so highly regarded and make the adjustments on offense that will ensure success. The D will be great again and I look for an improvement on special teams with a lot of players trying to use this as leverage to get more playing time.

Yeah, that pretty much is our entire WR corps. It is good, because it doesn't matter who gets hurt at WR, because they are all #2 or #3 type players.

(NOW IF WE JUST HAD SOME STARTERS!)

defense/offense

if the Skins make the playoffs this season, it will be because of the offense, and not so much the defense. There are more question marks surrounding the defense this season than the offense:

Will Lavar be healthy and start or have lingering injuries?

Will Sean Taylor play and how effective will he be?

Who will end up as middle linebacker and will he be good?

Will Daniels be healthy or effective this season?

Will Carlos Rogers be healthy or even effective this year?

Will Brandon Noble suffer effects from his knee infection?

Can Cornelius Griffin have 2 solid seasons back to back?

Have Bowen and Lott recovered from their injuries fully?

How will all the NEW defensive guys fit in or work out?

And can Greg Williams work the smoke and mirrors act TWICE?

I still think the Skins can make the playoffs...but I think it fully rests on the shoulders of Patrick Ramsey. If he has a great season, then this will be a high powered offense, and the defense won't have to be as strong.

Will Lavar be healthy and start or have lingering injuries? We didn't need him last year, why now?

Will Sean Taylor play and how effective will he be? We didn't use him for the entire year, why is he that important?

Who will end up as middle linebacker and will he be good? That is 1 question mark that is valid. If Barrow is as healthy as we're led to believe then there are no worries. He was helping to coach Peirce. He knows the mental aspect, if he could get healthy he'd an improvement over Peirce.

Will Daniels be healthy or effective this season? He wasn't last year, why do we all of a sudden need him?

Will Carlos Rogers be healthy or even effective this year? He's only supposed to miss a week or two from Camp. Big deal.

Will Brandon Noble suffer effects from his knee infection? Will he stubbed his toe and be out for a week? We have no reason to believe he wont make a full recovery. He blew his knee out and came back in a year, im Pretty sure he can handle this.

Can Cornelius Griffin have 2 solid seasons back to back? Why wouldn't he?

Have Bowen and Lott recovered from their injuries fully? They're still getting better. They should be fine for the start of the season.

How will all the NEW defensive guys fit in or work out? The same why they did last season.

And can Greg Williams work the smoke and mirrors act TWICE? Smoke and mirrors? That defense didn't luck into what they accomplished, they earned. I dont like that term, he simply compensated for some weaker areas by attacking the offense. How is this different than any other team?

The offense is were all the real questions and NEW players are. For you to say the DEFENSE has more question marks than the Offense tells me a lot. Let's look at your :?:

BATMAN wrote:Who will end up as middle linebacker and will he be good?

This question needs to be answered and will be soon. It is good that it hasn't been answered, that gives those vying fir the spot will go all out to catch the coaches eye. This is better than not having any option or only 1 guy to plug into that spot

BATMAN wrote:Will Lavar be healthy and start or have lingering injuries?

BATMAN wrote:Will Daniels be healthy or effective this season?

BATMAN wrote:Have Bowen and Lott recovered from their injuries fully?

These three questions can only be answered after the players take the field. If the answer turns out to be yes and the 4 of them all contribute than that will be a plus. However if the answer is no for any of them then what are you really giving up from the backbone unit of the team 1 year ago (none of them played much last year)

BATMAN wrote:Will Sean Taylor play and how effective will he be?

This question is about a year early, and may be history this time next year

BATMAN wrote:Will Carlos Rogers be healthy or even effective this year?

Weather or not a rookie (who wasn't going to start in the early part of the year any way) is a major question mark for a top 10 defense then there must have been some new rule changes that I haven't heard about and defense can no longer be played downfield

BATMAN wrote:Will Brandon Noble suffer effects from his knee infection?

Noble will fill a huge need in the DT rotation if he is healthy if not there are guys that will step up (GW's needs a number of productive tackles)

BATMAN wrote:Can Cornelius Griffin have 2 solid seasons back to back?

Griffin was brought in to do what he did last year, he did it while learning a new system. He should be more comfortable this year, no off-season stuff to slow him down- he'll be ready to go

BATMAN wrote:How will all the NEW defensive guys fit in or work out?

The NEW defensive guys were brought in to mostly upgrade the ST

BATMAN wrote:And can Greg Williams work the smoke and mirrors act TWICE?

Haven't heard it called that before.... and they've been trying to give his defensive schemes a name for at least FIVE years.

BATMAN wrote:I still think the Skins can make the playoffs...but I think it fully rests on the shoulders of Patrick Ramsey. If he has a great season, then this will be a high powered offense, and the defense won't have to be as strong.

Hopefully Ramsey will have a great year and the defense wont HAVE TO BE strong, regardless of offensive play the defense WILL BE strong
