It appears that somehow a mass e-mail was sent out to all of you from this message board. It looked like it was from me, but I did not send one. The title of these e-mails was 'wooT'

We are working dilligently to find out exactly what happened but I thought a little warning was in order in the mean time. There does not appear to be anything malicious with the e-mail (no viruses, no profanity) but I thought that it would be a good time to post a reminder about being careful with the e-mails that you open. Never open e-mails with attachments unless you are EXPECTING an attachment. Most viruses can't do anything until you try and open an attachment.

Anyway, I apologize for the inconvenience and we do promise to try and get to the bottom of exactly what happened.

I thought you were running a test to weed out old email in advance of mini-camp.

No problem. No harm - no foul. My anti-virus did not pick up anything malicious.

Yesterday, I noticed that the site was down for a little while. Maybe it was just my computer, maybe not. Any chance that had anything to do with this?

Maybe Gambit is also a computer hacker

I saw the boards hacked earlier. It said "hacked by something security team" and one said "Hacked by Mikey", I clicked back a few times and it was gone, but I really thought there was something wrong. I didn't say anything because I figured you guys fixed it with little problem.

I think some of the problems some of you might have experienced yesterday were because we were testing some stuff out server side... I say that because if we were hacked, we were unhacked as well...and hackers aren't usually nice enough to do that for you. Hard for me to say for sure as I was not the one running the server tests.

... but i don't know if the mass e-mail was related or not, I'm waiting to hear back from the server provider.

Like I said, I apologize for the inconvenience and we are working to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for the heads up BH! I was also tempted to reply but thought that this was not "consistent" with how things work here so I just deleted it.

There's nothing wrong with the e-mail as I said... it's just a silly message.

I don't want anyone to construe this as a virus warning of some type or anything, I just wanted to apologize to everyone for 'spamming' their mailbox with an unsolicited piece of e-mail. That's not the kind of thing we do at THN.

Oh and by the way... A LOT of people responded. I thought if I started the thread that maybe people would STOP responding.

thanks for the heads up,i went to check my email and found that same attachment.i did,t open it cause not only did i read your reminder but i knew you didn,t really email me so i just deleted it out of my bulk mail.

I also received an email the other day from someone named "Marshal" trying to woo me to another site it was in my Private Messages Box. The message was as follows.

"Just wanted to invite ya to a NFL/Madden forum i post at, could use another skins fan around the place. not inviting you for madden because i dont even play madden its for NFL talk and Water er forum (talk about whatever movies, life,music,etc)"

Seems kind of strange that twice in one week I get an email from THEHOGS.NET, it may be the same guy. Did everyone get this as well?

No that's not related at all. That's just a spammer sending you private message trying to recruit you to another board while they're here.

We don't condone such activity, and any time you receive unsolicited messages from someone on the board like that, please let a moderator know and we will rectify the situation immediately.

I did ban marshall for spamming the board in this instance but had no idea that he had been contacting members individually. Like i said, please let us know if this happens and we will always look into it immediately.

I got that e-mail too. The board sucked, and thehogs.net is my home anyway.

I got the same PM. Deleted immediately and didn't think twice about it. Next time, I'll report it to the MODS.

I got both e-mails too. Thought the Boss one was strange and ignored the other.
