The Wave -- A How-To

As big of a Redskins fan as I am, it REALLY burns me when the FedEx Faithful do the wave drill when the offense is on the field. Okay, folks. The wave is designed to confuse/distract the offense with its random shots in unpredictable places. But, the obviously badly misinformed fans in Landover seem to do it randomly and, most annoyingly, while the offense is on the field. To wit:
ONLY RUN THE WAVE DRILL WHEN THE OPPOSING OFFENSE IS ON THE FIELD!!!!!!!
This has been a public service announcement.

You know, you're not the first one I've heard say that about the wave. It's cool to be a part of it, and to see the whole stadium do it is nearly miraculous. However, too many times I've been at games where the wave is going on while our offense on the field, and our offense immediately coughs up the ball. (it really seems to rattle Ramsey). I agree, we need to be more educated about the wave. Good post.

While I personally didn't have a problem with the wave happening, only because most of the times I remember it happening, the crowd was dead and it woke some people up, I do think that part of the problem is the inordinate amount of opposing fans. For them we are the opposing offense and likely its those morons starting it and the basic uneducated fan just knows its the wave.

Wait...how does the wave distract the offense again? I thought it'd pump them up, actually.

The idea is that when your offense is on the field you are quiet while they are in the huddle and lined up and then make noise when they make a play. When the other team is on offense, you are supposed to be as loud as possible so that they can't hear in the huddle, they can't hear at the line and they had to try to shut out the noise to concentrate on the ball.

Hehhe...funny post.
I'd gotten that part down many years ago...
Does the wave generate a lot of noise? I've been to FedEx...but have never been a part of the wave. Don't they just stand up and wave their arms? Do they start screaming too?

When you do the wave, you stand up, act like an idiot, scream, wave your arms.....
its not like waving to your neighbor.

"The Wave" needs to disappear. It has no place in a legitimate football venue. Let it live on in places like Phoenix and Cincinatti.
Ban it from FedEx.
Whatever happened to the days when fans behaved with a little dignity, and simply screamed their heads off, while half naked with their chests painted in burgundy and gold enamel, and puking and spilling beer on the guys in the cheap seats in front of them.
"The Wave"...
BAH!

You´ll find this curious:
Down here in Mexico, we only do the wave when the game your watching is boring or before the game actually starts.
We NEVER do it to pump up our team.
Its designed for the fan to have fun, not for the people on the field.
