Have any of Gibb's teams been looked poorly upon and then ended up doing really well?

Hey espn Go

urself
I could see this, the Saints are a pretty good team, Brooks, Horn, Duece, and the D is improving. Lions have a great Recieving core, Garcia (now they have a Qb throwing them the ball), Jones. Bears had a great draft, Giants I really can't see. The Cards got Kurt Warner, a great draft J.J. Arington, Antrel Rolle, Elton Brown. I could see these teams being better than us. We had the third ranked D, but look were it got us. Were unstable at the Qb position, Gibbs said he likes Pat and says he will be the guy to lead us, but I am sure he said the same thing to Jay. Our recievers are horrible, I am taller than them. We have no possesion reciever. We also have no Te, and our line is not that good, Samuels is lackadasical, Dockery is the same way. People on this board are acting like were getting the Hogs back. We also have no pass rushing DE. Great D's are good the next year but normally don't repeat themselves (we will still have a really good D). It also said if we falter we could end up sending Denver the 4th pick in the draft, that is the main reason I am so pissed about this Jason Campell trade.

I'm glad we're not ranked too high. Now JGibbs and Co. can prove them wrong by taking us to the playoffs!!!

First team you choose to address are the saints: Brooks, great QB and good mobility yes. Horn is good to, Duece has size and speed... but what have they done? Next to nothing in the past years. They have the players to do something but they dont get it done... sound familiar? Dont back them before you back Ramsey PORTIS and Jacobs or even Moss. I know you havent seen Jacobs play but he just needs an oppurtunity. You've seen Moss and you have to admit he has skillz, dont base someone sole athletic ability on just height. Lions recieveg core??? Rogers? hasnt proved enough on this level yet, Williams (Roy) really good, yes, Mike williams hasnt even played a down yet.... Harrington is the starter, not impressed. In fact If you put David Carr, Harrington and Ramsey in the Same amount of games since drafted, you'll see that Ramsey has a better winning percentage. Actually a better everything, but they have had more starts, so we still have yet to see what Ramsey is capible of, and from the looks of the last five games... impressive. He just needed more protection and a better scheme. He was gett'n that too... felt better than gett'n sacked 70 + times when he was under spurrier. Oh and Garcia? are you joking? Then you mentioned Kevin Jones? Potentinal, thats all, I dont even know why you brought him up, that just hurt your argument. Bears had a great draft.. yup, but still an awful team! 2 players arent gonnna cut it. The cards look legitimate, but you mention, antre rolle... okay vs. Rogers and Springs? easily Beat! come on now... I mean... just Springs alone... He had a great seaon last year! Kurt is well respected by me... but be honest with yourself, what has he done in that last 3 years other than get injured or choke? We are unstable at the QB position but, Ramsey is in the same place Brees was last year... so hold that thought. Our recievers will finally get their shot this year... remember the last time Gibbs was in his "first year"... 5 straight losses right? What happened the year after? I will go ahead and let you look that up for yourself. And I cant believe you bashed our o line... samuels is good! lackadasical is not a word to describe him... no ones perfect, but he can hold that position down... and with Jansen back and the pick up of Rabach... more respect is due.. Portis is 1300 + last year... it's 1600 + this year! Our defense, I really shouldnt have to defend them.. yes even the D-Line... We play just fine, we got great sacks against philly, bmore and pittsburgh... it was our offense that lost it for us, and that is coming together just fine.... fans have to stop judging Gibbs on how he puts together a team just because he doesnt go after Randy Moss or other high profiles...he does things his own way and it worked out just fine for him last time... I dont remember Doug Williams, Timmy Smith or some of the other Skins being so welcomed so quick, but he put it together. Theres tons he did that with actually, im just not that good at remembering all the names. So listen, I dont usually do this, but manfreda I had to defend my SKINS to ya... you actually agree with thos jokers.. By the way, I hear ya on that denver thing and dont agree with everything, but losing hope, faith or whatever you want is not the way to go...
One last example, an eagles fan came up to me and said, " you havent made the superbowl in 14 years, hahaha!" Well it was easy enough to say, "you made it again after 24 years!" So we have another 10 years to match them.. and they dont even have a ring! point is, they didnt lose the faith, neither should we...
(go ahead, call me crazy, but...can you see it? Portis danc'n in the endzone? Can you hear it? "ToUCHDoWN! WASHINGTON REDSKINS!".... I can hear the crowd, I can feel it! Come sept. so will you... you know it)
GO SKINS!

29th is ridiculous.
The Bears? The Dolphins? Are they kidding?
The Lions at 17 is probably the worst of all. No matter how many WRs they draft they still dont have a defense. Or a decent quarterback.
The Redskins finished with the #1 Defense in the NFC last year, and according to these rankings they are the 15th best team in the NFC, ahead of only the 49ers. That shows how much stock ESPN is putting in defense. It's only half the game guys.

These things are rarely accurate halfway through the season, so I'm not sure why we would feel the need to get worked up at this early date.
Obviously this is based on last year's performance. And, from that perspective, it's as accurate according to the perceptions of those sports writers.
I have some hope that we will prove them wrong, but until we do, I fully expect the team to be bashed left and right. That's one of the things that makes victory so sweet -- that you reach it in spite of the doubters.

I cant argue with that... It will be sweet when those doubters jump on the wagon

These rankings are based on the current roster holdovers, free agents, and draft picks being projected into the regular season.

Ostensibly, yes, but in reality, there is nothing to base it on but past success. These guys take last year's performance, add any positives they percieve and subtract any negatives they percieve and come up with the rankings. However the positives and negatives are so highly subjective, that all you are really left with is past performance.

I could care less what we are ranked?
This just adds more fuel to us being the offseason champions. We've been rated decently the past few years and have ALWAYS performed below that ranking so why do we deserve to be ranked high?

Ok, how does Dallas jump to number 12 if it's based on last years performance?

The ranking is understandable, but I hope in error. I'm higher on Ramsey than most serious analysts, but otherwise can't help but note the weak OL on the left side, where Samuels continues to be overrated by Redskin fans and Dockery is probably through after this year. Also, the addition of Casey is overhyped. He's an adequate center, not a savior. Jansen may or may not be the same guy he was two years ago on the right. Some forget he had a poor year even before last year, which he sat out with an injury. Plus, Thomas is a year older, there is inadequate backup and Royal is, at best, a journeyman.
The problems at receiver (WR and TE) are absolutely glaring.

ey is first rate for his position but limited by it. The tandem of Moss and Patten is no better than the losing tandem of Coles and Gardner last year, and recent prayers for the emergence of Taylor are likely to go unanswered. If Taylor does emerge, however, it will make a difference.
We'll still be weak because of the OL., but another ray of hope is Nemo and White as shortyard backs or as blockers for Portis.
Bottom Line, however: Big problems scoring. Penalties will continue to plague the offense, primarily off-sides and holding-- signs of blockers struggling.
The defense, I think, will continue to be excellent. Unfortunately, defense alone doesn't win championships in today's NFL. I'm sorry we blew the chance for a three-down DE, as well as top WR and TE by letting Pierce and Smoot go and drafting follies. With an on-the-ball F0 we would be looking at the playoffs.

Because of the writers' perception of the positive additions and negative subtractions. Do you read?

This will make our finish in the top 12-15 of the league all the more satisfying.

Yes I do, effectively the writers are saying Dallas improved by leaps and bounds and the Skins actually got worse.
My point stands, these rankings are based on the projection of the offseason additons not last years production.

I think Dallas' offseason was extremely overrated. The players they signed are for the most part over the hill guys like Bledsoe or Marco Rivera or Aaron Glenn. I never really thought very highly of Anthony Henry either, tho I do think he is a big upgrade over Pete Hunter and the other trash they had at corner last season.
It will take them time to get used to the new 3-4 defense and they have a stiff at QB behind a mediocre OL, and a bunch of aging WRs. Not a recipe for success in the passing game. Julius Jones should be very good but he never had a great game against a great defense, just ate alive crappy teams like Seattle on national TV. He's also been injury prone and it will be interesting to see how he holds up (if he does) to a 16 game NFL schedule.
#12 is way too high for this team. I see them going 7-9 or 8-8 and Parcells retiring, leaving his successor in salary cap hell.

This is great. Let me place my bet in Vegas right now, we stand to make some money next season.
