EA7649 its way too early to start talking about that.... NFL is different than college and until we see Rogers on the field we wont be really sure.
But i think now not but maybe by end of the season he will be better than Smoot, but hes got great size and can tackle well, so that wont be an issue cough smoot couch tackle cough shoulder cough and he is pretty fast, he will fill Smoots shoes in no time.

I believe that Rogers has the potential to be better than Smoot. IMO Smoot had about reached the end of his ability to grow.

If you compare the talent both had coming out of college, I think Rogers has far more talent than Smoot had. Eventually, I think he'll become a better CB than Smoot ever was...and ever will be.

Smoot was an above average CB who I will miss, but right now, I think rogers has the ability to be an extremely good or great CB, but I will not say bad things of Smoot.

I like Smoot and Carlos seems like a goof corner. I hope Rogers becomes a corner like Smoot, but can tackle better

Rogers will be a better player in the future. Cant say anything about this season or maybe even next season for that matter. Young CB's usually need to take a little more time to develop than other positions

Smoot was a projected 1st rounder comming out of college. A litle run in with the law pushed him in to the 2nd round where the Skins grabed a great value player.
I think Rodgers has better physical talents than Smoot has, but Smoot's heart is as big as his mouth. If Carlos can step up and perform on the NFL stage, I think he will be a fixture in the defense for years to come. I will say one thing I am concerned that in the higlights Carlos seemed beaten but the QBs missed the target. You can bet NFL QBs will exploit that. Smoot has that quick step to the ball and great instincts. I hope Carlos watches plenty of film of the last CB mentored by Darell Green.
Heck just watch film of Darrel Green.

Yeah I'm not sure about that. See Champ Bailey, Fred Smoot, Dunta Robinson. Rookies that played solidly from the get go.
If a CB has the physical talent, Carlos does. He just needs to understand his role in the defense because Gregg Williams will not leave him exposed. Trust the coaches, trust his talent, Carlos will be just fine this year.

Talentwise they're probaly equal, with a slight edge to Rogers. But, as how each will do as a CB with the Redskins: It's going to come down to character and how bad they want to play for Coaches Williams and Gibbs.

Rogers will be better than Smoot by end of this season...He is a better hitter and faster coming out of college, and obviously a higher draft pick

Smoot and Rogers were both expected to be drafted in the middle of the first round. The big difference is we "reached" a little for Rogers and got lucky that Smoot dropped into the second round.
It is way too early to compare corners. At about the end of the third year is usually when you find out what kind of corner you have. Almost all corners that see a lot of playing time from the beginning, play better in year 1 than 2. Call it a 2nd year slump, but I think it is because WR and QB have some film on them and figure out how to beat them.
To make it fair ask this agian in 2008 about this time! Personally I don't think Rogers will be as good as Smoot. I, unlike some other people, don't change my opion of a player just because he is not on the Skins anymore. Example: Before Baily was traded he was the best corner in the league (based on the posts here) and now he is a bum! I don't fall into the trap of letting burgandy colored glasses cloud my view of a player.

I'm going to say Rodgers because of his talent AND the fact that we have a stable coaching staff. Remember Smoot had to go through many coaches, Carlos seems to be lucky in that perspective.

I think later in the 2005 season Rogers will prove to be the eventual replacement for Smoot. As far as who's better one has played 4 years the other has't played a down.
Smoot also is one of the few players in the NFL that can say he has never had the same co-ordinator 2 years in a row (this year was his choice), so we don't know how he'll play under his 5th scheme in 5 years. Rodgers should benifit from being with the staff we have after a few years.(something Fred didn't get as a young corner)
