just listen to the audio archive on redskins.com and was happy to hear that gibbs may use the shotgun some.Sorry if there has already been a post on this, I checked but didn't see antything.Anyway gibbs talked about trying new schemes this year and im thrilled to hear that.I dont want teams knowing what we are going to do, before we do it.I think you will see the shotgun only a few times in a game when they want to beat the inside blitz or for deep pass threat, but im sure there will be plenty of run it at you plays from gibbs and a good balance of schemes to hopefully spark the offense.

I dont't like the shotgun much either,but with the speed that NFL defenses have now the extra couple of seconds to get a reciever deep would make sense...

plus keep patrick upright and not flat on his back!!!!

I think the shotgun should be in every game plan. It's a valuable weapon if used correctly.

You're right, he shouldn't tamper with such a great offense

Good coaches change and adapt, the fact that Joe Gibbs is willing to alter his gameplan at his age is a good sign that he can build a winner again.

The shotgun should certainly be helpful for Granite Ramsey.

Hes not changing his whole system. He is just adjusting to the modern era where you need shotgun offense. He is just making adjustments that will make the team execute better. i would say about 80% of the plays will be the same and 20% will change for 40+ yd gains.

So WshSkins22 he is not chaning his system hes just adding more plays to the playbook that will expand his system and our offense

It wasn't an insult. It was an observation. Besides, granite rules...

I can't be sure but I do think that Ramsey used the shotgun a lot in college so it should be a valuable tool for him.

Ramsey had no line in college and used the Shotgun for survival.This is an example of Gibbs understanding that 1992 offense needs tweaking.

Gibbs did for a short time in the 80's used the shotgun. On obvious passing downs Joe Theisman would use the formation until Jeff Bostic snapped the ball over his head and the Skin's took a big loss. Joe stopped the using the shotgun then.

But, the defenses were much different then. They're much faster and can disguise themselves in a number of packages. Personally, I HATE the shotgun because too much can go wrong with it -- most notably the snap going over the quarterback's head! But, let's get something that will give our offense a kick start, keep defenses from stacking the line to stop Portis and upgrade our passing game.

I like that news. As long as the C can snap the ball well, the shotgun (used sparingly , of course) should help Ramsey see the field a little better, and it should also allow our offense to get good use out of the play action and the draw.

This is why the faith we have in Gibbs is not blind. He is proving that he will make adjustments to improve this ball club - something that every good coach/leader does. It may not work out as well as we hope, but at least we will try it; which is ten times better than just saying that we will never use the shotgun.

(I don't get to watch the games where I live)--Did we really not see a single shotgun set in all of last year?

FanfromAnnapolis- I assume you mean Annapolis Maryland. Are you currently not in the area because I grew up in Annapolis and watched the games every week.

Several of the best offences in football over the last several years use the shotgun all the time, the Colts and Rams. I hope our coaches are looking at tapes of these teams and look at what has been succesful and try to put it in our offence.

I'm from Annapolis, live there in the summers, but currently I'm a college student in Michigan so I leave the area right as the season starts . I see about 3-4 games a year (mostly the primetime stuff, and even that's tricky because I don't have cable).

The shotgun is a valuable tool for us. I heard on NFL Playbook that both Ramsey, Rabach, and Raymer all have worked extensivly in the shotgun. So i feel comfortable with that b/c the potential loss is far less than the potential gain.

Fanfromannapolis, find a bar where you are at and watch the games on NFL the Ticket. Thats what I had to do here in Los Angeles, but now last season i got directv and paid the $250 for the season and preseason. Its cheaper than going out and there is nothing like crawling out of bed for the westcoast 10:00a.m. games and turning on skins pregame.

I take this in a positive attitude, shows that
Gibbs is willing to adapt and that can help the Skins. I watched a great coach here texas
get shafted for several reasons, adaptability
being one of them.

The only time I remember Gibbs using the Shotgun was in Chicago for the 1985 playoff game. That's when Chicago had the awesome Defense.

I use the shotgun almost exclusively in Madden 2005, and I am unstopable, even with Brunell. But I use Ramsey anyway, just to show Brunell my unhappiness with his play. I bet he hates being benched after throwing for 9 TDs in a game.

I don't want this to get too far off topic, but I'll just say that there are other factors and commitments coming into play on Sunday afternoons / (and esp.) evenings, since watching the Skins on my TV at home is no longer an option. I still generally follow the games--and expect to be die-hard once I'm back in town permanently.

I've gone to a bar or two in the past, but even with 4 TV's going the Redskins aren't generally first choice and sometimes aren't on at all. . .I'll continue searching this upcoming season probably. Who knows, maybe there's a full-out Redskins bar in Grand Rapids that I haven't found yet.
