So, how bout this Runaway Bride?

Since we're going through a dry spell in terms of topics of discussion in The Lounge, let me throw this one out: Should the "Runaway Bride" be charged with any type of criminal violation?
I'm of the opinion that she wasted a lot of taxpayers money by creating the need for Police Officers to mount a search for her, and should be charged with filing a false Police report or something similar. I think she's got some nerve pulling this stunt. And, I don't think her fiance is entirely innocent either. I wouldn't be surprised if the two of them were in cahoots together just to get the "talk show" circuits money. So, I think they should be prohibited from profiting from their story.

Yes...she should be prosecuted. But...then again, I suppose y'all are not surprised I'm sayin' that.

I agree with JH on this one. If she were to go untried, that would open the doors for others to get off scott-free after committing a crime (filing a false report).
As for the pair somehow being in cahoots to turn a profit, I don't buy it. After all, Julia Roberts already made a moivie about this sorta thing in Runaway Bride.
However, if she can sell her story to pay off her big bill to the state, then she should go ahead and do it (go on the shows).

A couple hundred thousand dollars? That's a lot of money she cost the state/community/whatever...
I'm not sure about jail time, but she definately needs to pay up!

What? I'm getting married in a few months, and I don't have wedding insurance...maybe I should be worried...

Congrats on the upcoming wedding! I recall reading about Wedding Insurance back when my wife and I were planning our nuptials. If I recall, it covered stuff like acts of nature (inclement weather for outdoor wedding, etc.), illness (I think), and some other stuff. We didn't buy it (or need it, IMO), but it seems cool that that stuff is available. I was confident that our wedding would go off without a glitch, so I didn't buy it. But, if you feel you need it, go ahead and look into it.
Of course, I'm not sure if it covers extreme cases of cold feet, so man up and fulfill your promise to your young lady!!!!
Again, congratulations.

OMG, never even heard about that insurance!
Anyway, I have complete faith that we will not need it. Everything's indoors, and I can tell you 150% that we are meant for each other. After all, she IS an older woman!

Prosecute her to the fullest extent of the law.

I think she should re-pay the cost to the city/state/and others, but she really didn't commit any crime until she had contacted the police. At that point the waste of funds were brought to a halt, however she did state that she had been abducted during that same call. So jail time should be handed out.
You think she took off to Vegas because what happens there stays there?
Edit: She and the family should not be able to profit from any book or movie deals

All I know is, I wouldn't marry her. Criminal charges ? No. Even if she's a bold-faced liar, she wasn't getting any action, and she's in the prime of her life.
Born-Again Christianity. You gotta love it.

This is the right move, I think.

My advice to the world: shut the hell up about the run-a-way bride. Get a life. It's bad enough we think football 23-7.
