EAGLES RELEASE WR MITCHELL

May 6, 2005
By DAVE SPADARO

This news item doesn't come as a bit of a surprise: The Eagles on Friday officially released wide receiver Freddie Mitchell, who wasn't invited to last week's post-draft mini-camp as head coach Andy Reid was "working on something" for Mitchell.

That something came Friday.

WR Freddie Mitchell: Gone after four seasons
"We appreciate everything Freddie has contributed to the Eagles organization over the last four years," said Reid. "By releasing him now, it gives him the opportunity for a new start with another team in the NFL."

In his four seasons with the Eagles, Mitchell played in 63 games and had 90 catches for 1,263 yards and five touchdowns. Of those 90 receptions, 64 were good for first downs.

Mitchell is best remembered on the field for his catch on a fourth-and-26 play that kept the Eagles' 2003 season alive in the NFC Divisional Playoff game against Green Bay in January, 2004.

But Mitchell's actions and mouth off the field sparked the move to release him. Mitchell complained loudly about his role within the Eagles offense, criticized quarterback Donovan McNabb and even had the audacity to call out New England head coach Bill Bellichick.

Reid did not invite Mitchell to last week's camp. Now, Mitchell, a No. 1 draft pick in 2001, is free to sign with any team in the league.

That that you deal breaking midget!

Your prayers won't be answered. He said that they evaluate every player possible to see if they wll fit in.

In my opinion, we won't sign Freddie. He has lacked the production of a #1 receiver and has a huge mouth to go along with the lack of production.

Mark my words: He'll be catching snaps from Drew Bledsoe before ANY of our QB's.

Well, he'd be catching them from Bledsoe only before week 3. By then, Drew will have been sacked a record 154 times and will be replaced by Henson. At that point, Parcells will start Henson but will yank him two plays into the drive because <spoken with the thickest NY accent one can muster> "He looked stupid -- frickin stupid! Just like this whole stupid organization!" Then they'll sign Phil Simms to a one year contract and start him over any promising young talent.

We'd be more entertaining if we (read: I) weren't so lazy.
