Gibbs said there are no new developments regarding wide receiver Rod Gardner, who reached a mutual agreement with Washington after the 2004 season to part ways. Previously, Gibbs maintained that a chance existed for Gardner's return. But yesterday Gibbs said: "After talking to him, I'd say I'm kind of skeptical of that working out." . . .

Thanks for sharing this dcd. I am glad to hear he is gone for good. Last thing we need is another reciever who doesn't want to be here.

Unfortunately, he is not gone, just yet.
Yes, he will be gone but the Skins are not about to just release him without a "decent" return for a 1st round draft who never panned out as a true #1 receiver.
It will happen, it is not official yet. A trade might be in the works.

Im not sure if he doesn't want to be here, but I do know that we dont want him here.
I'd still try to get like a 2006 5th rounder or something.

You're jumping the gun. Also, he's probably better than our other WR's. Pray for a new, studly WR.

i don't know how you and some others can say that gardner is better than our other receivers. gardner has proven himself to be a disappointment- totally inconsistent. all the dropped passes are the most obvious thing. but how many times has he broken free for a big game changing play- 3? 4? in 4 years?? he has a hard time getting open, and when he does, he tends to drop it or simply misplay the ball. that has always been my biggest criticism of gardner. far more often than he drops it, he slows up or adjusts improperly and doesn't even get in position to make the catch. and of course the announcers say "ramsey overthrew him" or "throws it just out of his reach".
if you include balls he just plain misses, he probably accounts for at least 20 botched passes per year. it's time to stop wasting time on this guy and give taylor jacobs a chance to step up. maybe jacobs will be a bust, who knows. but you can't say that gardner is better than him or any other WR we have.
the stats don't back up your argument either- over the past 3 or 4 years, patten and moss have each had about the same average amount of receptions per year as gardner (which is truly sorry because patten was mostly a #3 WR in NE!), yet they hold significantly higher yards-per-catch averages.
if you look at james thrash's numbers from 2000-2003 (before he took a backup role with us last year), they aren't too far off what gardner was producing.
thrash was an undrafted free agent.
patten came into the league as a free agent after playing in the arena league.
gardner was the #15 pick in the draft.

Gibbs is "managing" the 50/50 "deal" as well as he can. I think he would like to try and get the most he can for the team but at the same time he is being more than generous to a player who was reported to not be exactly "decent" to the team or the offense last year.
This from the announcement about Barrow! - On Rod Gardner, Gibbs said he is "skeptical" that Gardner will be with the team next season. The Redskins have attempted to trade the fifth-year wide receiver since the 2004 regular season came to an end.
"I don't anticipate him being here for the off-season workouts," Gibbs said. "We'll just continue to work our way through it and figure out what's the best resolution for him."
This is not unusual for Gibbs to be still concerned about the player even after he (50/50) was not exactly "classy" about how he was "treated"!

This is bad news b/c we received nothing for him. I can't believe we did not even get a 4th or 5th rounder out of him.

Greetings from NYC. The new trend will continue with Gardner! If you do not want to be here Joe will grant you your wish. It is better to cut Gardner losse now that try to squezze a 4 or 4th round pick later. Jacobs, Patton and Moss are a huge improvement over last years recievers!

We have to consider this a failuer if we can not get anything retute for a former 1st round pick. This guy can play in the league at a fairly high level and no team is willing to give up a mid round pick (3-5). There must be more to it then we are hearing. He may not have played as well as you would hope a 1st rounder would, but he is still better then a lot of #2 guys in the league. Don't give up hope just yet, we could still get a player or pick from someone.

I think the other teams know we are going to cut him June 1st, if we don't get any offers before then, and are waiting us out.

Agreed! Right now, the skins have NO number 1 receiver. This isn't even up for argument.

I'll argue it. Moss is our #1.

The problem is he was unwilling to sign a new contract and because of that teams didn't want to trade a pick for a guy who will only be there for one year. This is why we couldn't trade him before the draft. Now, like JSP said, they are all waiting until he gets cut.

Moss is a mediocre #1
he is exciting though!

It may be simplistic to think that some team wants Moss and will just wait till he gets cut to get him but 2 things can happen that are not conducive to that. Some other team may suddenly need a WR OR your team might be in the same situation and other teams will not accomodate you when they need a player. There is a fraternity here between the FO people and they generally will not play "games".
Like I said, I think that is an easy way to look at it but, right now, if some team wanted/needed to take a chance on 50/50 then IMO they would not wait and see if he gets cut. I think that Gibbs is still hoping to get anything he can but I do not think Rod will be a part of this team for much longer.

DCD,
Before you bring up stats, maybe you should look them up.
Compared to Moss - Gardner has 76 more receptions, 581 more yards and 3 more TDs. (are TDs game changing plays, because if they are he has average 5.6 a year)
Compared to Patten - Gardner has 62 more receptions, 484 more yards and 6 more TDs (again, are TDs game changing plays?)
Compare to Thrash (4 years prior to the last year, because that is what you said) - Gardner has 7 more catches, and 5 more TDs. That was his most productive 4 years of his career.
And I would wager there isn't a fan on this site that would say that Gardner had a better QB situation in those four years. Quite the opposite, Thrash had D Mac (the real one not McCants), Moss had Vinny T. and Pennington, and Patten had some guy named Bradey.
So everyone wanting Gardner gone, just remember that he IS CURRENTLY OUR MOST PRODUCTIVE WR. And our WR corps will be worse without him!

My door is wide open for him leaving.... And it is closed shut for him or anyone that doesnt wanna be with us. Now whatever we get for him, we should keep in mind that we will have around 2 mil of cap space freed up, which can help us alot, maybe finding a good DE in FA or something.

Yeah, but we just ate up that $2 million (actually it is 1.46 that Gardner will save us) by signing A LESS PRODUCTIVE WR! So how are we better?

would you rather have a Less productive WR that will work hard. Or a screw off that doesnt wanna be with us.
and we still have .54 million to spend
