Wow, a good draft grade for the 'Skins!

I, for one, was happy with the 'Skins draft. Nobody has really said that we were losers in the draft but most people didn't rate us as winners either. Well, I guess when you pick a future QB in the first round it's very hard to analyze that pick until a few years have passed. John Czarnecki of FoxSports.com gave us a great grade though. He says we had the fourth best draft, one spot higher than Philly! Here's what he wrote about us:

4. Washington: The Redskins are always getting mauled for lack of imagination and one bonehead decision after another.

But they had a solid first day with physical Auburn CB Carlos Rogers, who was rated by 10 teams to be better than Antrel Rolle. And more than half of the teams had Auburn QB Jason Campbell ahead of Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers. Campbell has the best arm among the quarterbacks. They took two fullbacks, and UCLA's Manuel White should stick on the roster. Stanford OLB Jared Newberry might be a solid nickel linebacker. Made the most of their limited selections.

Interesting stuff! :D He seems a little less biased than Peter King who said before the draft that three or four years down the road Campbell would be one of the top five players to come out of this draft and then trashed us on PTI when he realized that his favorite QB was going ot the dreaded Washington Redskins. What a hypocrite! At least some people are willing to stand by their player ratings and not let their emotional knee-jerk reactions to certain teams get the better of them.

Just out of interest, here is Peter King's piece from after the draft:

3. I think, when history judges this draft, one of the best five players in it will be Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell, who went to Washington at No. 24. That isn't to say Washington did a smart thing, paying a ransom for the pick -- particularly when it already has another quarterback there who's good enough to win with and considering Joe Gibbs will be at some racetrack by the time Campbell is an experienced starter. I'm just commenting on the quality of the player. He's good.

Only he has the gall to say that we made a mistake to choose a player who he thinks is very good. That just doesn't make sense!

And if he is a top five player then the 'Skins really made a coup by grabbing him at 24 and only giving up a third and fourth rounder to get an extra first round pick this year rather than next year. They didn't have to trade up into the top five to get a top five player. That sounds like a great deal to me.

His logic is all wrong. How can it be a mistake taking a player who he says is so good? To me that is hypocracy at its highest. Maybe he would have been happier if we took a worse player? Aren't you supposed to take the best player available!?!? What a jerk!

Theoretically, if he is one of the top five players that will come out of this draft, then he ought to have been picked in the top 5.

The fact that Washington got him at 24 is not a ransom, by this logic. In fact, it's highway robbery.

I thought the same thing when I saw that quote. IF the guy is a Top 5 player and we were picking 25th and we got him by trading a 3 and a future 4? How is that not a good deal???

And not only is he a Top 5 player in the draft but he also plays QUARTERBACK..... is there a team in the NFL that wouldnt trade a 3rd and a 4th round pick to move up 20 spots in the first round and get a franchise QB? (If King thinks hes a Top 5 player in the draft he obviously thinks hes a franchise QB)

I think sometimes these guys just want to hammer out their articles so they can just screw around the rest of the day.

Yeah man, tell Peter King. Some kind of football expert he is, he didn't even know when Campbell was drafted. Yet another example of his complete incompetence!

In defense of Mr. King there was a QB taken at 24, so par for the course there was some truth to his story. Beyond the fact that a QB was selected at 24th spot there really is nothing else worthwhile in this article
