Meanwhile, Williams said he's eyeing "four or five" candidates to start at middle linebacker, and rehabilitating veteran Mike Barrow wasn't among them. Lemar Marshall, Brandon Barnes, Brian Allen, fifth-round draft pick Robert McCune and sixth-rounder Jared Newberry appear to be in the mix.

If this is true, then I find it very surprising that Williams wouldn't give Barrow a chance to start this season.

I look for big things fron this guy if they give him a chance.
I honestly don't think Brandon Barnes has any chance of becoming our starting middle linebacker.
Personally, I like Barrow, McCune, Smith, and Marshall as our top candidates for MLB.

I think it's really really clear -- Barrow is going to get cut June 2nd... Wms didn't even mention him, he's done with us...Wms has moved on.

There must be a reason Mike B is still here. Still very early but the LBs this year are going to be a strength IMO and I am hopeful that we can see why these guys (the coaches) like Barrow so much. Marshall will adapt to the coaching as AP did last year but Mike would be a major plus if he's able to go!

Oh god don't let it be Brian Allen. He is awful, or atleast he was at Carolina when he started.

If this is true, Barrow would be the only Skin I know that never dressed up for a single game. Not too great a record. I hope he gets a chance to prove himself one way or another.

Aren't they waiting for an MRI scan on May 6th? I guess we'll know more about his status then. Unless they already know he's not going to make it....

He might make a good LB coach or something. Playing is out.

I don't think Andrer Johnson, a OL that we traded up from the second round of thr 96 or 97 draft too the last pick in the first round (Dallas), and I don't think the young man ever suited up. He was cut the following training camp! A bigger bust than Heath or Westbrook!

His 2005 salary is $2,156,000 in 2005
$2,082,000 cap hit if we cut him now ... we would save $74,000
$416,000 cap hit if we cut him after June 1 .....we would save $1,740,000 this year but take a $1,666,000 hit next year

I watched the interview on Redskins.com ... and this is not how I interpret what was said. He mentioned "four or five" candidates but he didn't list them by names ... nor did he ruled out Barrow. This is just the WT mis-interpreting what Williams said.

NO! Those naughty media men - distorting a story about the Skins!
Thanks SkinsFan! These guys are not as bad as the WP but they still seem to have an agenda for our team.
I will be very surprised if Barrow is not on the field and showing why both Gregs have so much patience with him. We are going to be good on D again this year but if this guy can "go" then we will be VERY good.

I agree, let the best player start. Out of that bunch of guys it's going to be a battle for sure and who ever wins definitely deserves it.
