Quick Opinion...

Whoever was around for the official thread saw my reaction....

Im dissapointed that we didn't get mike.
I feel we gave up too much for that QB.

However this is my team and I stand by them. I stand by Gibbs and he works with these players everyday. I dont, and neither do you. He knows what this team needs and where we're lacking.

Rodgers will play great for us, and this QB is a kid that Gibbs handpicked. You can argue and say that he picked Brunell also but nobody expected Brunell to fall off like he did.

Redskins forever!

People did warn about Brunnell, and no one else wanted to give him that much money. That's why he went to us. I think Brunnell... i don't even know what to think of him

We went into the draft needing help at CB, WR, and DE
We come out of Day 1 with a CB and a QB…….. :hmm:yep I said Quarterback

If that has your head shaking, how about we got the CB that we may have been targeting with Mike Williams STILL ON THE BOARD.

I’ll come back to Rodgers because Campbell is more interesting. :-k Rodgers will be on the field a lot sooner so we have more time to speculate about Campbell plus the 25th pick was announced first (late Tuesday I believe)

This all came to light with the Fat Man reporting the trade with Denver for their #25 we gave up Next year’s 1st, and 4th along with this year’s 3rd (that’s 3 to get 1 for all of you keeping track).
The Pasta man went on to say that a source within the organization said we would be targeting Jason Campbell. This was reported just days after Vinny C. and Joe Gibbs were quoted saying completely opposite things about the #9 pick (no-trade vs all options are open).

Almost no one believed the Belly’s stroy

Lenny doesn’t do much (as far as making a effort) to get his story correct but he either fell upon a real story or actually did some work this time and was upset :hmm:(not to the point that he couldn’t eat) when he was called out about this.

:hmm: It appears that Lenny was telling the truth
and that means someone at Redskin park ran there mouth.

=; Now do we believe everything Lenny P says…..I think not.

He said he hasn’t talked to Vinny in more than 15 months. I think he is trying to cover his tracks. I hope the trail of parmesan and romano cheese sauce leads right to Vinny C.’s desk (“the Danny” wouldn’t overlook this).

If the drafting of Jason leads to the firing of Vinny then it was worth the 3 picks (not 4 picks) it cost us.

Now look at the cost …. Our 3rd round pick this year , 1st & 4th rounders next year (value chart says next years picks are equal to a 2nd & 5th this year. Regardless we can place value one those picks until next year.

Considering we’ve had almost a week to digest this pick. I like it. Jason Campbell’s selection will add competition at the QB position where there was none. Before the draft, going into training camp Ramsey would have been on cruise-control. Now he has to play for a contract, he knew the job was his (with option like Brunell and Hassellbeck he knew the stage would be his).
Campbell won’t play this year but what QB will be available in the 1st round next year that has played in a system similar to Gibbs’s and will have had a year under Gibbs. We basically draft a QB in the 1st round of next years draft this year, rookies normally don’t start their first year regardless of where they are picked in the round unless the team is really bad, so either way getting him now is a good move. BTW Aaron Rodgers almost fell to us :hmm: strange

Speaking of falling…..
With the 9th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins did not trade up to select B. Edwards
With the 9th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins did not trade down to get more picks
With the 9th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins selectd Carlos Rodgers the Jim Thorpe Award winning CB from Auburn although many believe we should have went with the falling Williams.

I like this pick to I always had questions about Williams
He didn’t play at all last year, and there were rumors about his workout habits among other things. All of this was known and he was still projected to be gone by #9……….So why did he fall?
I don’t know but I don’t think I’d want him on the team before I knew.
Rodgers had less than 30% of the passes thrown his way completed, making him one of the best DBs in the nation.
They just stop throwing at him after awhile. If that can carry over to this level then we’ve done alright.

Tomorrow is another day and we got picks that haven’t been traded yet

I was not too confident on JGibbs before but now that I have seen his continuous loyalty to the Redskins, I lay all of my trust on Coach. He knows what he's doing guys, don't worry. I think he has learned from the Brunell deal that the NFL has changed. I would've LOVED to have MWilliams instead of CRodgers, but if you think about it, we're in good shape at WR.
We'll be fine next year. Just need to get the QB/WR chemistry down.
Trust in the Redskins and trust in JGibbs.

I agree, but it's a hard pill to swallow.

I will be following these picks VERY closley over the next few years.

1. I hope Ramsey responds the way Brees did last season (and the Skins have a Chargers type season)

2. I hope Santana gets into camp soon and Taylor grows up quick

3. Get rid of Vinny, just cant stand the dude.

This is the ONLY upside about the draft that I have heard today. Get rid of the bum!

We will not be fine next year. We have not addressed our weaknesses. Campbell is a prospect with a history of bad decision making and only one year of college success, a gamble on the order of picking Matt Jones, but without the freak upside. At any rate, he'll be on the bench. Our offense is essentially unimproved from last year, unless you think last year was all Cory Raymer's fault (Brown did a pretty good job for Jansen). Actually our best chance for improvement may be the acquisition of a couple of prospects as short yardage backs and Ramsey's improvement.
We'll be lucky to finish 8-8. Keep your finger's crossed.
We should and could be fielding Mike Williams, Heath Miller, Moss, and Cooley at the same time.
Gibb's draft move this year is equivalent to the move he made with Brunell last year, which was similiar to moves Spurrier made with Danny.

We'll see, but I think you're letting your disappointment in not getting a big name get in the way of seeing things for how they are.
We probably couldn't have paid Williams what he will likely demand. He reeked of a holdout anyway. Instead of adding to the pile of bodies we have now at WR, we plugged a hole at CB. While I was pushing for Jones myself, I'll take Campbell.
I don't think we can equate these moves with Spurrier, Snyder or anybody else. They're good, affordable moves.
Considering the coaching staff's history of finding gems in the late rounds and from the undrafted pile, this could all work out fine.

good point TC!

I was also a little concerned about the thinking yesterday, but I agree with some of these points TCW and we really do not know who and what we can get (AND afford) from the undrafted and maybe some "gems" in the June cuts!

I am still willing to wait and see! I think Joe is feeling better about this team and he is the one that has to put the product on the field that he thinks will give him the most success. Yes Mark B did not work out but Joe would not say he thought he can help if he did not think that and Jason is going to ensure we do not have a panic situation here next year.

I really like the new CB, we will be very pleased with this guy in the very near future.

Skins faithfull, can we never be happy. I don't like whats going on this offseason. But think about it, the past few years we have been very happy with our offseasons and EXTREMLY dissapointed at our season. I take this season like a chess match. A good chess player will make some moves a novice will think are stupid (like exposing their queen, or in our case our QB) but as soon as the novice trys to take advantage of this they move in for the kill. I belive Gibbs is setting up something only he fully sees. Regardless I can't wait until the season begins. I HOPE WE ARE ALL WRONG ABOUT THE ENTIRE OFFSEASON!!!

i agree with all of the points....

I think this was a good draft....

We drafted a guy that will probably start this year.... and We got a player for the future....

and the other players were drafted to boost our special teams... and possibly our goaline package....

We must keep our D strong which we did.... I think Gibbs knows most of our offenses problem last year was the offensive line... he took care of that in FA...and Jansen is back...

Our WR's are solid enough to win.... this draft was awesome... he drafted older (seniors) and disciplined guys...

(some of the guys have military back ground , citidel and the lousiville LB)

Great Draft IMO.....

There is something to be said for the fact that the team clearly went into this draft with a plan.
We may find in a few years that the plan was faulty, we may find that it was brilliant (obviously hoping for the latter) but it does, unmistakably, indicate direction.
That is something this franchise has sorely lacked.

very very good point... no one expects us to win the superbowl this year, but with a plan we can build to that level. Why does everyone look so short termed. building a champion is a gradual process, not an overnight fix. Maybe we'll get those DEs and WRs ya'll are crying for next yr.

...or through free agency, at an affordable price. I'm no draft guru, but I wonder, how many of DEs or WRs that went in the first round will be ready to make an impact next season? Wouldn't a free agent be more prepared for the NFL game? I'm content with our picks. I trust Joe.
