Last week I heard 2 interviews from highly respected "Team Builders". Both men said, "We do not draft for NEED, because if you draft for NEED then you can end up with a player at a position you NEED but the player is not good and never pans out"....Instead these 2 men said they draft the best available talent at their draft spot. That way the player will contribute immediately, if they don't start right away they still provide peace of mind on the depth chart if an injury occurred to the current starter.
In otherwords, it is better to load the team with atheletes that CAN play pro football than to fill positions with mediocre players that were drafted because at the moment that specific position was needed.
Those 2 men? Bill Belichick and Ozzie Newsome

"With free agency and the salary cap, taking the best player available, you don't have that luxury anymore," Redskins vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato said. "You have to fill needs."
