Draft Pick Value Chart

I found this Draft Pick Value Chart:

http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm

At the news conference, Gibbs/Snyder/Cerrato used a chart
like this to justify the trade with Denver.

If you believe:

(1) The chart is correct
(2) The Skins will be average next year (pick 15th or 16th in each round)
(3) Next year picks are de-valued by one round (e.g., next year 1st round is equal to this year 2nd round)

then you might believe that the trade with Denver is
reasonable. The first two seem to be reasonable to me.
However, I don't believe that last point at all.
There might not be that big of a difference between
a 6th round pick and a 7th round pick. However, there's
a big difference between a 1st rounder and a 2nd.

We traded this year's 2nd rounder for last year's
3rd (and drafted Cooley). People don't object much
to this because Cooley played beyond expectation and
also because the difference between 2nd and 3rd is small.

If I could do it, I will trade this year 2nd rounder for
next year 1st. I'll do this every year. So, except for
the first year, I'll have two 1st rounders (and no 2nd
rounder) every year. Perhaps I should apply for the GM job.

I agree COMPLETLY. Why stop at second? Give people your second AND Third for some other team's first. If you did this every year then you would have two first rounders every year! Ridiculous.

What idiot would give up their first for a second in the first place.

I just a stupid chart, I mean it's not the Holy Bible. Just because some stupid piece of paper says that this years second is equall to a 1st round pick is ridiculous. It is common sense that a #1 is better than a #2.

actually it happens more than you think. This draft is full of solid players with not many stars. Usually a draft has more impact players, but less solid players. Usually the 16-45 players are about the same as well as the 46-75 players being about the same. It all depends on where you are picking and where you think you'll be picking the next season. Not to mention, who your trying to get with the aquired pick...

This is what Gibbs/Snyder/Cerrato are saying at their press
conference. Many around the NFL use this chart (or one similar to it).

Perhaps you can loan me $100. I'll return
$100 to you next year (w/o interest). It's just common sense
that $100 next year is the same as $100 today, right?

What I was saying above is that paying a 1st rounder next
year for today's 2nd rounder is paying way too much interest.
