When you are a football player its your job to workout and be with your team. At the very least you need to give your coach a call and let him know what is going on. For not calling Gibbs there is no valid excuse.
Having said all that, I can see where Taylor is coming from. He is a Florida boy. This is the first time in his life that he has been displaced from his hoe for an extended period of time. The NFL season is longer than most college rookies are used to so this season was probably a physical drain on him. Last year he went from the College game to the combine to the draft to three camps to preseason to regular season. Almost no break from 2003 season to the 2004 NFL season. Then with all the bad press, DUI proceedings, etc. I'm sure he is drained!
Still, no excuse for not calling Gibbs.......Lets hope that he doesn't want to pursue a music Career.....if he starts giving press conferences in his helmet.......

I can understand, but he has no excuse for not calling Gibbs. My boss couldn't be mad at me for getting strep throat, but if I didn't call him and let him know I'd be out of work for a few days then he would have been pissed.
Its called simple courtesy, someone needs to teach him that.

The boys from the U stick together. Soon Washington is going to be the U of Miami Trust Fund, with all the money we are giving their alumni.

Ok he needs time to be away from the media, and all the fans. He just wants to sit there work out on his own with some Miami Players. But when your head coach calles you multiple of times and you don't answer, then something is wrong. He played a very good rookie season, but he did many rookie mistakes off the field, and until he gets back on that field there shouldnt be any renigotating. Personally I think that if he gets his attitude under control, id like us to lock him up with us till he retires.

Asked on Wednesday whether he had behaved himself, Portis said: “No, I didn’t. I just didn’t get caught.”
“I had a couple of parties with Hugh Hefner that were invite-only, so there were no cameras involved,” Portis said. “I did the SI swimsuit (issue).”
He appeared to be joking, but one never knows with Portis.

Portis cracks me up!!!
I got to buy his jersey this Saturday!
Back on Topic, Sean Taylor should have been livin it up with Portis.

That way he could have gotten himself re-energized for these offseason workouts and not be needing "time away from football" while his teamates are busting their butts off.

The players from "The U" live for the NFL and enter into another realm of reality. Seem like every year there is a different group of player from Miami that stay in Miami instead of working out with their teams during the offseason.
I don't know if Moss and Taylor are using their want for a new contract as a justification for not being here or what. But I do know a few things
1.Moss and Taylor are Redskins from "the U", when they realize they are Redskins 1st things will be a lot smoother for them.
2.Moss will get a extention/new contract at the right time, (Joe is the timekeeper not Drew) and Moss knows this
3.Taylor wants a new deal and will get it after all is said and done (what is said and done is the important part that ST needs to understand) You have a negative light shine on your team and then say I'm worth MORE than what I signed for. I truly believed Taylor would get a new contract before the 2005 season. That was before he became a news item (negative news item)before ever taking the field. Not knowing where to be on hump day during the season (More negative news). Sean a contract is a contract, if you want a new one=== PROOF IT and Gibbs will consider it NEXT YEAR.
That's like a mulligan in golf (a do-over)
If he can stay out of trouble on and off the field this season then Gibbs/Snyder may sit down and talk to him during the involuntary workouts next offseason.

Taylor does not need time off. No one needs time off. He should be in Ashburn working with the rest of his team.
No excuse for not coming to practice and not responding to his head coach.
Only those who are injured should have an excuse for not coming.

I have a feeling this guy is going to be a problem when training camp starts as well. He's not just missing in action from the voluntary workouts and refusing to return his Coach's phone calls, he's going to be missing from training camp as well. I truly hope I'm wrong, but I've had this feeling since he expressed his unhappiness with the contract he signed last year.
By the same token, if Portis is defending him then we must not forget how he became a Redskin. Taylor is going to attempt to do the same thing to us Portis did to Denver. It's the exact same senerio and I'm sure Taylor is expecting the same results. However if we are reluctant to renegotiate Taylor's contract I can imagine him saying; you did it for Portis, why not me?
