DENVER STILL WANTS OUT OF ROUND ONE

We continue to hear that the Denver Broncos are trying hard to get out of round one in 2005, and we've now learned that they're hoping to finagle an extra first round pick for next year in exchange.

A league source has confirmed that the Broncos are indeed making calls in an effort to slide down from the 25th overall pick, and per the source the team is asking for a 2006 first-rounder in exchange.

As we see it, if it's gonna happen, it'll happen on draft day, when a team who drafts next in the top half of round two sees a chance to spring back into round one and nail a guy whom they really want, like the Bills did in 2004, when they sent their second round pick to the Cowboys in order to get back into round one, snagging quarterback J.P. Losman.

So don't be surprised if next Saturday a trade is announced after the 24th name is announced in the first round, allowing the Broncos to drop down -- and to pocket a high-end pick in 2006.

we should get this pick. Last NBA draft my team, the Chicago Bulls, acquired the number 7 pick from the Phoenix Suns and only gave up our next years 1st rounder. Well we've clinched a playoff birth, and if we hadn't gotten Luol Deng, the 7th pick, theres a good chance we wouldn't be in the playoffs right now. so if we could swing a similar deal I think it could be real beneficial. That way if we don't get a CB like Rolle or Jones we can get someone like Justin Miller, or even Carlos Rogers if he slips that far. If not we can snag a pass rushing DE like Demarcus Ware or Justin Tuck... Joe should definitely inquire about this pick

The real quality draft picks in this draft class are in the second and third rounds. A lot of the first round guys would've been marginal 1st/2nd rounders last year. Next years draft on the other hand is going to have some real quality players; Good Linemen, at least one Franchise QB. I would be really upset if we trade away next years 1st rounder.

The Broncos are smart. Thats why they are willing to give up thier first rounder this year to snag another one next year. I wouldn't bite on this one. The teams that are going to go for this are teams like Arizona, San Fran, and Miami.

I agree... and think we should down from #9 to get a second rounder

Yeah, what we should be doing is copying thier technique. We should package up our number one this year for a number one next year. A team like Arizona which needs talent and has cap space might bite. The Ravens might bite also.

A final plea to do what is necessary to wrap up these guys: Matt Jones, Heath Miller, Fabian Washington, a backup QB

Our 1st rounder next year may well be higher than the 24th (I hope not, but we couldnt get much lower than 24). So in essance, we would be trading back, with no compensation except we would get our player 1 yr earlier. We need to stop sacrificing our future drafts. We trided it before and have been paying heavily the last 2 yrs for it.

You're talking about three guys who will go before pick number 40 guaranteed! We don't even have three picks the first day! So what do you propose that we get rid of to get these unproven guys?

Getting our first round pick a year earlier can only be a beneficial thing because we can develop our player a year earlier :!:

But that isn't a big help if that player is less talented than someone that we can get next year.

Anything that PFT gets right is little more than coincidence, in my book. . .even broken clocks are right twice a day. If you report every rumor that you hear anyone with any connection to the NFL "leak," then you're bound to be "right" sometimes, I suppose.
