Anyone watch the finale on SpikeTV on Saturday?

Great light heavyweight final between Forest Griffin and Stephan Bonner --> an absolute war. Definitely one of the best fights in UFC history. If you like violence and blood, you have to catch this match.

Plus Ken Shamrock got pounded in the main event which is fine by me. The 'world's most dangerous man' had his notorious ankle lock on Franklin, but Franklin didn't tap... guess it wasn't THAT dangerous. :-" Kenny boy just looked like he had the 'world's most dangerously swelling eye' at the end of the fight.

That Griffin-Bonnar fight was crazy. The first fight was kind of boring, but Diego Sanchez is one bad dude.

Diego never really looked like losing in any of his fights. He's a legitimate addition to UFC's stable of fighters.

I don't know if Griffin or Bonnar are capable as making more of a contribution than they did Saturday night, although I think it's hard to discount Griffin's toughness. The fact that he actually had his arm broke in a fight and still beat up the guy with his other arm is truly awesome.

I'm not complaining because it was a war, but it was surprising to me that Bonnar didn't try to take the fight to the mat at all. Maybe he just figured there was no point in arm-barring a guy that wasn't going to tap even if you snapped his arm.

I had taped it on the old DVR on Saturday and watched it last night.... I've watch UFC before... but that Griffen-Bonner fight was one of the best I'd seen... I have no clue how they could make a judgement on who won... I'm guessing that Griffen got more knees to the head and that's what got him the win...

Here's hoping they bring more of it to cable TV...

the Shammrock fight looked just more for show... one of the guys who made the UFC what it is today, who gets a chance to fight on Cable TV... he's gonna take it... but he didn't even look like he did much training for it...

Good stuff all the way around... I also saw them showing a UFC bout on Sportsnet here in the DC area... so I'm hoping it will become a more frequent thing...

I have honestly been watching it from day one. I preferred the no holds barred origins but still appreciate what it has evolved into.

I saw Shamrock in his 'prime' at ultimate 9 versus Dan Severn. We drove all the way to Detroit to watch them both dance in circles. Garbage. Thankfully my man Don Frye fought on the card and provided us plenty of entertainment as well as signing a drunk fan's redskins t-shirt.

I'll never like Shamrock but he had been making a strong showing lately... gave Tito a good fight, and knocked kemo out pretty good. Still, Franklin is a beast and one of the first true hybrid fighters that doesn't have a particular style as much as being a practitioner of all MMA. If he can smoke Shamrock at 205, at 185, he's going to be tough to beat.

It was a good pop for UFC... I'm sure their PPV this weekend between Lidell and Couture will be their most purchased ever.

Promises to be a pretty decent fight too. Although Hughes/Trigg might be a better fight.

I wish they'd shown the undercards with all of the other fighters from the TV show, it would have been even better... here are the results from the UFC website.

Middleweight Bout (185 lbs.)
Chris Leben (17-1-0) from Portland, Ore., won a TKO over Jason Thacker (4-2-0) from Whonnock, British Columbia, at the 1:35 mark of the first round. The fight was a grudge match holdover from the TV show when Leben ridiculed Thacker in the second episode. Thacker landed a hard right at the outset, but Leben recovered and went to a ground and pound attack for the win.

Middleweight Bout (185 lbs.)
Josh Koscheck (5-0-0) from Buffalo, NY, defeated Chris Sanford (5-1-0) from San Francisco, Ca., by escaping a strong leg lock and landing elbow strikes and punches to win a TKO at the 4:21 mark of the first round.

Middleweight Bout (185 lbs.)
Nate Quarry (12-1-0) from Gresham, Ore., who never fought on the show due an ankle injury sustained in training, defeated Lodune Sincaid (15-3-0) from N. Hollywood, Ca., by TKO at the 3:17 mark of the first round.

Light Heavyweight Bout (205 lbs.)
Mike Swick (7-1-0) from San Jose, Ca., knocked out Alex Schoenauer (10-1-0) from Las Vegas, Nev., in 20 seconds of the first round by landing four powerful strikes at the start of the fight.

Welterweight Bout (170 lbs.)
Alex Karalexis (5-0-0) from Las Vegas, Nev., knocked out Josh Rafferty (7-4-0) from Cincinnati, Ohio, with a powerful right hand strike at the 1:40 mark of the first round.

My buddies and I are getting the Couture Vs. Liddell on Pay Per View this Saturday. It's going to be a long day - I'm catching the Nationals game at 1PM and the UFC doesn't start until 10 PM EST. I may be drooling on myself by then



I've been watching it off and on but have gotten more into it of late. Good stuff...

I saw the show and thought it was pretty good, but I'm hearing a lot of talk about the final two fights being fixed. Check out one discussion on it over at the t-nation message boards. There are some clips of the fight there, too. I wouldn't put it past the UFC.

Why else wouldn't the two finalists take it to the ground and keep it there? Shamrock's first fall looks pretty damn deliberate also.
