Alarming Trend

Just wanted to say how disappointing it has been lately to log onto thehogs.net and see a bunch of you acting like highschoolers. (No offence Jake) This place was started to talk about Skins football, BH was kind enough to add a lounge and smack forum for talking about other topics. I can certainly understand good conversations involving politics and religion, in fact I enjoy them. I just don’t enter them because more time then not it turns into name calling and insults. I don’t care how smart or dumb you are, everyone is entitle to there opinions here without the fear of being bashed every time they do so, not to mention all the work you create for the Mods. I certainly understand the smack forum, and yes anything goes, but all too often the threads that are started in the smack forum are because of what somebody said in another forum. Can we please get back to some form of normalcy? Just a moderators

I agree with you DEHog.
We are a team... We can't hate eachother. We have to stick together through good times and bad times. Fighting amongst eachother doesnt show anything. This site is for Redskins fans from all over the world to talk each other and share their thoughts about whats going on. This site wasnt made for Redskins fans from all over the world to hate and insult eachother.

That's why I don't like talking about politics or religion because people always think they're right. It's pretty despicable considering that the people posting in those threads are "grown adults." They don't act like it, though.

::jumping on a high horse::
I think this is a moot topic... unless you name, names... otherwise everyone's gonna think it's the other guy....
If I said, people take things said and themselves too seriously sometimes to a general audience.... would you think it was you?
not saying it is or it isn't.... but you get my point...
personally... besides a few incidents here or there... it's been rather civil... have I been in the middle of it... yes... to some extent... but I don't have any grudges against anybody I spatted back and forth with... if we'd meet... I shake their hand and see how they were as a person in real life.... if the other person doesn't feel nor act the same in return with me... well that's just their loss
If I act civil, in and around the board... and act like a so called "highschooler" in the smack forum... I think that that's what it's there for.... if someone can't stand people busting each others balls in there... don't click the links...
this isn't "ItsASmallWorldAfterAll.net".... it's the offseason... the one thing we have in common (an un-dying love for the Skins)... is slow right now... we can only talk about who we're gonna take at #9 for so long before we just wish it was here...
And whether we're all Redskins fans.... we're all different people.... we're gonna have a difference of opinion... and things ARE gonna go south with some people... that just the world we live in.... that's how it will always be on this or any other board...
the nice thing about here is that it's controlled.... neat and tidy...
So... if you want to try and bring this up to peoples attention... I think you need to "point some fingers" so we can address the situation, constructively of course....
sidenote: It's interesting that you start off a topic against name calling & insults with a name calling and insult...
I could name a hand full of regular posters right now that are still in high school... that probably took offense to your first line... I don't think it's a matter of being in high school or not... it's more a matter of how serious everyone takes each other...
plugging the disclaimer as usual....

Thanks for posting that, DEHog.
The offseason is always a strain on board relationships, it seems to me. All the stagnation leads to someone stirring the pot. It's almost better (I think) that at least it's not over Skins stuff.
I'm not saying that I enjoy all of the arguing or think that it's any good. DEHog, you make a good point in saying that these threads are starting because of what people say in the inappropriate forums. However, BTP is right in that at least almost all of the actual arguing is in the right forums.
Again, not saying that I think all the smack is good. But if I had to choose between (a) seeing (participating?) in immature debate over religion / politics, or (b) having to go through heated Redskins debates (KWII or ST? Ramsey or Brunell? Coles or Moss?) that go nowhere. . . .I'm going to go with (a) because at least that's easily ignorable.
There have been some rogue threads in HogWash that hit on politics, which isn't good. . .and personally I don't think that any of the banter in smack does anything good for board relationships. But to each his (or her) own, that's why it's been set up this way.

Wow! This thing is STILL going on? Give it up dudes.....we're all fans, we don't necessarily have to be friends do we? We all have different views of the Redskins. Some people HAVE crossed the line but....arguing never makes it better. Just ignore the people you don't like. That's what i'm trying to do, anyway.
It's none of my buisness but....can't we just get along?
Again..."Where's the love"??? Can't we all be friends?
Anyone head the song "Where is the Love?"
I thought we were all friends......aren't we?
I've tried to keep us from breaking apart, but it hasn't worked yet. I'm hoping your post will inspire others to cope with the offseason. Totally agree with your post, we are all on one side and should support each other! Not slaughter everyone in our sight!
But, this is what Offseason Syndrome is, it makes everyone anxious and impatient.
A couple of more months guys, a couple more. Let's try to keep calm and not panic!
(I admit it, i'm guilty of 'stirring the pot'....view "come out tank")

EndHog, I'm fresh off a PM from JH...one of the Founding Fathers, although no longer part of the staff.
I was trying to impart upon him that he couldn't expect to begin a thread about the Schiavo case while structuring the thread with rules about what you could say or how you could post in it.
You see, when you post something that involves a controversial topic, you don't always get level-headed discussion, and the discussion doesn't always stay on topic. With a hot topic like that, that's fine... because that's how we grow. For every pair of people that wind up taking their issues to Smack, there's likely 800 others that are following and forming their own (and, as a result, well-formed) opinions on the the subject. So many previously unknown elements are added to the discussion, and everybody gets to decide for themselves whether it's crap or whether they feel it makes sense to them. They take sides, and that's important.
I love this place for that. There's a lack of sameness, an absence of generic, stamped-out opinion.
When you witness the process, you can't help but take something out of it.
I suppose the easiest thing in the world to do is say, "Well, it is
Washington we're rooting for".
You can't have a good democracy if there are six wolves and three lambs voting on what to have for dinner, right ?
It's a process, and I try to keep it within that scope.

Well, those board will never be perfect. No board can achieve that. I think that the stupid things that happen on message boards make them what they are. If there wasn't any differences in views we'd be bored. I know that you're reffering to certain incidents that have gotten out of hand and I understand that. My point is geared moreso towards those who think that everyone should agree and live in some type of peaceful harmony on this board.

I should have known better. Its a site that offers many services. Videogames, reviews, previews, cars, music, gadgets etc. You can pay to become an "insider" which Im a member of. The vesti is for those outsiders, ie. children whos mommmy wont let them use the credit card. lol. Its a mad house.
The mods on here think the spamming is bad. Every 4/1 they have a spamathon. 100's of users start spamming, I witnessed it for the 1st time this month. It was insanely stupid.
They have 2,851 individual forums, 99,936,913 posts, and additional 46,149 were posted today.

While I've kept myself out of such serious topics as the Schiavo
one...and many other personal threads, I have also noticed, while visiting these threads, alot of fighting and seperate topics have broke loose.
I know this board has alot of members but for the most part, only a good 20 of us are conistently here. I think its important for this group to get along. Though sometimes it seems like I only come here to increase post count or add a short comment, I do generally care for this board, because I post here consistently and on the daily.
The people at this board are great, and as a young guy I can't appreciate enough the older people on the board showing different views on things.
However, sometimes stuff does get out of line, and alot of people have been distracted by it.....
I love this board and I don't want to see it shut down because of immature behavior, but I'm sure once the season comes around we'll all be alot happier and more content. Alot of people are just stressed out with the Skins at the moment....
