Ramsey is the man. He improoved last season, and now hes got a new QB coach... With that cannon of his and our two speedster wide receiver were going to do tons of damage

And an improved offensive line to offer him more time.

I believe as long as Patricks excells, our offense including Clinton Portis will excell.

Rember when Patrick first started off he was so-so. But then by the time we played the Giants in like week 13 or 14 we scored 30 pts!

By the end of the season Patrick was hitting all the right throws.

And with a full season under his belt, he should be good to go in 2005. And should our offense.

Remember that game in the 90 season against Chicago in Soldier Field that Ryp threw FIVE ints but we still won 9-7?

That was a late season game, we were in the thick of the playoff hunt and Gibbs still had the confidence to start Rypien the next week and the rest of the season (we eventually lost against Montana´s 49s, but beat the Eagles at the vet in the wildcard game).

Shows that our coach can be confident enough in a good QB when he demosntrates what he can do (unlike Brunnel, which underachieved for 8 straight weeks).

There might be one or two of us that remember that, El-Mex. Most of the boys came just a little after that. It's probably why it's so hard for some of the younger guys to have faith in Gibbs; they haven't seen it firsthand yet.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to be screaming if Gibbs uses Mark this year . But if he does it is because he thinks he can do the job. Gibbs keeps saying that he thinks the Mark he knows will be able to be the success on the field that a few people here have no faith in.

I trust Gibbs judgement in our backup and if that is Mark then he is going to get a chance because of what Gibbs thinks is the best for our team.

As you said "Coach can be confident in a good QB" Gibbs would not give him the opportunity if he did not think he could get it done.

Aside from the debacle we all have come to know and love as the Brunell Experiment, Joe has a pretty good track record for sniffing out a really good QB in the raw (boy, does that sound slightly gay ) and making full use of his skills.
If he didn't think Patches could do the job, Patches wouldn't be here.
To me, it's as simple as that.

I thought Ramsey showed he could develope into a solid starter under Spurrier (almost scared to say that name on this site). WIth Gibbs' history with QBs, I think given time Ramsey will be a perrenial Pro-Bowler! And given his toughness and how good our line will be, Brunell will retire before seeing the feild again (cept mop up duty).

Good point. I've seen exactly one winning season with this team. When Gibbs 1st came back I wasn't sold, but I changed my tune by mid-season.

I remember that one. It was on radio here.

Another thing I remember is that the Redskins trailed about 7-6 down to the end of the game. Gibbs and the team just had complete confidence that they would make the last drive and win, no matter how spotty they had played. Oh, and notice that the Pettibon defense kept it close.

I see the same defensive grit today, and the same refusal to give up. Each game last year just neaded a play here or there. The '90 team had made those plays for 10 years, so they had confidence. This is the year...

To take it one step further...If Gibbs did not think there was a very good chance that Mark will not be a very effective back-up QB he will not get the opportunity on the field. Gibbs will make that call and so far he has indicated that he not only thinks that but that Mark will be able to contribute NOT just be the backup QB.

This is why we are excited to have Gibbs back! Admittedly there were some adjustments from the time away and some glitches (MB should have been more effective. This guy should have been a lot better than what we saw!) but this team towards the end was showing glimmers of what we remember from a Gibbs "run" team.
Yes, the D was better because of Greg & Greg but the whole team effort started to come through and that is why I am looking forward to this year. I think we will be as improved this year as we were last and then Joe will establish the credo for staying there.

I agree with you, Welch: the defense seems stingy enough rihjt now like those late Gibbs teams of his first stint in D.C.

Can anyone recall how much points we gave away to the opossing team in stupid turnovers? That would be a good way to asign even more responsability on the pathetic offense we had most of last season.

On the contrary, the "experiment" (:roll:) shows the character of our coach and his steadfast resolve to stand by his decisions, no matter how much the crazy fans want a change. I was there the day Joe finally put Patrick in.

...the crowd was obnoxiously loud.
...we were losing.
...Mark could not get our offense moving. AT ALL.

When Joe handed the reins to Patrick, he not only handed the keys to the car, but he gave him the vote of confidence that, like with Allstate, he was in good hands.

Anywho, whoever Joe decides to put in the game will be the quarterback that puts us in the best position to win. Patrick has a huge opportunity to be succesful in this offense, and he's get another legitimitate opportunity to prove himself.

For our sake, let's hope he progresses steadily so we don't have to revisit the 'ol QB debate.

Just to be clear on something: I´m not a Brunnell fanboy. I think Ramsey earned the starting job in 2004 after the beating he took under Spurrier's system in 2003. Still, I trusted Gibbs when he put M.B. on the starting lineup.

That's what we all want! I trust Joe too but Mark B. is a bit of a worry - I'm sure that Gibbs will have him ready (in case) but I hope that Patrick continues to progress and we should not have to see Mark at all. If we can make it through this year I'm sure JG will get someone else here for 2006.

Welcome to the site - there is quite a lot of people from all over and with a lot of different ideas but for the most part they all want a great Redskins team. That also includes some puke and iggles fans (who maybe really are Skins fans who just like to cross dress!)

If Patrick can develop the touch, where he can take a little something off on certain passes, like Rypien did in '91, he will go far.
