Yes, I'm starting another thread


After Pro Bowl guard Marco Rivera signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys that included a $9 million signing bonus, he hurt a disc in his back that required surgery.

Rivera was so disappointed and despondent over the injury that he actually walked into Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' office and offered to return the entire signing bonus.

Ol' JJ, nice guy that he is, said "No, keep it" and wouldn't take back the money.


Wow. Imagine that. A vet FA who felt guilty and tried to own up to his own mistake. And Jerry Jones not holding it against him.

Tell me again how bad a signing this was. And keep in mind not even two weeks later, he WALKED into Jones' office.

He will play, he will help.

Jones' on the other hand? I think not. He didn't take the signing bonus back because it would have made him a villian and would have became a public relations headache.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones dismissed a report that guard Marco Rivera has offered to return his $9 million signing bonus because of back surgery.

Rivera, 32, suffered a herniated disk in his back while working out earlier this month. The three-time Pro Bowl player signed a five-year, $20 million contract with the Cowboys during the opening week of free agency.

"We haven't had any conversations about that," Jones told the Dallas Morning News at the annual NFL owners meeting in Hawaii.

Within the past week, both Adam Schefter of the NFL Network and Len (drum roll, please, because we're bringing it back just in time for Easter) Pastabelli of ESPN.com have reported that Cowboys guard Marco Rivera offered to pay his $9 million bonus back to owner Jerry Jones after Rivera learned that he has a herniated disc in his back.

But there's a glitch.

Jones says it never happened.

"We haven't had any conversations about that," Jones said in Hawaii this week.

So what gives here? Our guess is that Rivera's new agent, Jimmy Sexton, floated the phony story -- and Schefter and P-belli swallowed it hook, line, and sinker . . . and donut.

Pastabelly I can understand...but Schefter? Hmmm...maybe it's spin.

I think it's funny that anyone EVER gave this creedence...

I may not like Jerry Jones much... but he IS an intelligent business man. If Rivera had really made that crazy an offer... Jones would have inked the addendum before Rivera could say facelift.

I doubt that.

JJ is a little crazy, but he's not a jerk. He more than likely feels Rivera has EARNED the bonus already...and since Rivera is running already, should have no lack of faith in his ability to earn his salary as well.
