Preseason Schedule Is Announced

March 16, 2005

The Redskins, who have played five preseason games two of the last three years, will play just four in 2005, the NFL announced Wednesday.
The Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh will visit FedExField for preseason games this summer, and the Redskins will travel to Carolina and Baltimore.

Here is the preseason schedule (with dates):

Aug. 11-15, at Carolina, Bank of America Stadium
Aug. 18-22, Cincinnati, FedExField
Aug. 26, Pittsburgh, FedExField, 8 p.m. ET
Sept. 1, at Baltimore, M&T Stadium
The Redskins will be seeking a measure of revenge against all four of their pre-season opponents. Washington fell to Baltimore, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh during the 2004 regular season and lost to Carolina in the preseason.

The Friday, Aug. 26 preseason game is penciled in for a nationally televised matchup between the Steelers and Redskins at FedExField. The game will be on the FOX network, with kickoff set for 8 p.m.

The 2005 NFL preseason kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 6, when Atlanta and Indianapolis meet in the American Bowl in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2002, the Redskins and San Francisco met in the preseason in the American Bowl in Osaka, Japan. Last year, Washington and Denver squared off in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. In both of those years, the Redskins played in five pre-season contests.

The NFL's regular-season schedule is expected to released in mid-April. The Redskins will host San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Oakland, San Diego, the New York Giants, Philadelphia and Dallas. Washington's away opponents in 2005 : the Giants, Dallas, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Denver, Arizona, St. Louis and Tampa Bay.

Nice! I really like the fact that we are playing all four pre-season games against defensive teams. I know it's only pre-season but it will be better practice for our offence going into the regular season. Maybe force our o-line to get their act together a little quicker, pounding the run and protecting Ramsey in the pocket.

The away games are close to home. Not a lot of traveling should help keep the guys fresh.

Looks like our preseason schedule is tougher than our regular season schedule!

I'm looking at this schedule next year and thinking there is no way we won't get at least eight wins.

Of course, I thought that last year too!

THE WAIT IS OVER

By Adam H. Beasley

For the first time in 24 years, Mr. Snyder and his Washington Redskins will come to Baltimore.

Ravens fans will get their long-awaited home date with their southern rivals on Sept. 1, in the final preseason game of the year.

The Ravens will also host Terrell Owens and the Eagles and travel to Atlanta and New Orleans this summer, the NFL announced Wednesday. Dates will be released in the coming weeks.

Since the Ravens moved to Baltimore in 1996, Ravens fans have clamored for a shot at the Redskins in Charm City.

Due to a series of scheduling quirks, the Ravens have played in Washington four times (both in the regular and postseason), but the Redskins have never returned the favor.

Until now.

“We're excited about playing the Washington Redskins here for the first time,” said Ravens president Dick Cass. “I think our fans will enjoy it, too.”

The Redskins last played in Baltimore on Aug. 22, 1981, a preseason game in which they defeated the Colts 13-7 at Memorial Stadium.

Washington has not played a regular season game in Baltimore since Nov. 6, 1978, although the two teams will meet at M&T Bank Stadium in 2008.

The Ravens open the preseason against the Falcons for the second consecutive year. The two teams, who will face off the week of Aug. 11-15, have met in the preseason in each of the last three years and four times since 1999.

The following week (Aug. 18-22), the Ravens return home for a date with the Philadelphia Eagles, who have not played in Baltimore since the 2000 preseason.

Then, they are back on the road again to face the Saints (Aug. 25-29). The Ravens have never played in New Orleans, although they will do so again in the 2006 regular season.

The NFL will release the regular season schedule next month.

Being that I live in Baltimore I will be attending this game.

Last year I was down on myself for not making any camps, or games. This year I plan to meet all you guys. I owe a few people some beers even though I dont drink.
