Report: 9 Panthers part of steroid investigation
COLUMBIA - Nine current and former Carolina Panthers players are targets in a steroid probe, sources have told a Columbia newspaper.
Sources familiar with the investigation told The State newspaper that some of the NFL players were on the Panthers team that competed in the 2004 Super Bowl and were patients of Dr. James Shortt.
The newspaper did not give names of specific players involved in the case.
Panthers general manager Marty Hurney told the newspaper he is aware of an investigation involving a West Columbia physician already under investigation for unusual drug treatments.
