What we really need is....

A GM that will give this franchise a direction to go in. If we had a GM who set the way we are going to be going year to year and allowed JG to worry about coaching we would be better off.

are you michael wilbon?
why do you say that? Because we showed some fiscal constrant this off-season?
Guess it's easy to hammer Gibbs, until he wins a playoff game...I'll give the guy some time...

Ehh no im not Micheal wilbon and im not hammering anyone. We need a steady direction with a quality GM though. To many hands in the cookie jar for too long. With a gm and defined roles we can make sure we are much more consistent from year to year.

I think we are seeing Gibbs straightening out a mess that someone else created. He is using the Patriots as a model and we'll see if he is successful. I believe he will.

Snyder is getting the experience he needs to make the right moves...He isn't a life long FO guy...He needs time to adjust and learn from his mistakes before he will be able to make that "Perfect" offseason. ANd by perfect i mean adding the right guys to get to the playoff's.

I guess i stand alone when i say that i dont want Dan Snyder doing anything other than puting his name on the checks. i love gibbs and if u call this clearing up a mess then fine. It is a mess that he wouldnt have to clean up if we had stability at the top. Like a quality GM.

I disagree. Joe Gibbs knows to do things the ONLY way he knows: The Joe Gibbs way, which existed way before the Patriots were anybody.

Ok but when a succesful business man buys an NFL team he is gonna want to try his hand at building a winner, Snyder has already dove in head first and wants to be better. I can't see him giving up now,my guess is he will make his mistakes and learn from them.
It's what good business men do.

Just because he's a good buisness man and knows how to market this team doesnt mean he knows what he's doing when it comes to football decisions. This isnt Madden. When he leaves the football decisions to the guys who know what their doing is when he will have learned from his mistakes.

I think coach gibbs has been doing A good job as far as player management he inherited some bad apples, or some players who have had to rebuild a few times in the past year and they felt that gibbs offense was too tough on them but thats over now and after hearing both moss/patten press confrences i think were going to do alot better not to mention jansen being back

I believe the Redskins already have the next GM, his name is Joe and As soon as he gets the team moving in the right direction GW will be the next Head Coach. For now this is a "team effort".

This is a post for fans, not therapy. People get up here and criticize everyone in the organization. Bottom line is, winning games.
Not signing people, Not finding a GM, or any of that...If we won games last year, or if we win this year, no one will give a sh** we don't have a GM or Smoot or Pierce, or Chump Bailey.
I look forward to a winning season so we don't have to dab the eyes of sad fans.
No disrespect, but this is the game of football, not marriage counseling.

I think the two team that played in the superbowl this year would disagree. NE & Philly both have the same FO set up as the Skins. Seems to be working fine for them. The mess was here and Joe Gibbs is playing janitor. Marty was doing the samething Joe is doing now cleaning up the cap situation. Then Gatorman came in and just wanted to be a "ball coach" leaving the decision to Dan & Vinny. Result a big cap mess. I am glad that the Skins have not overpaid anyone this year. I am happy with the FO setup and I would be fine if the roster does not change from here to training camp.

NE has the same front office set-up as the redskins? Mmmk well i guess Scott Pioli isnt a gm and the best right now in the league too. When joe gibbs was great he had Bobby Beathard. A GM. How many successful coaches are their that made both player personnell decisions and were the head coach? Not many.

If Vinny Cerato and Gibbs collaborate to do the same thing a GM does, what do we care if Cerato's title is not GM? Winning solves all this whinning.
GM or not, Gibbs would still have the final say on who plays for his team.

I get what your saying, but I don't think we need a GM with Gibbs back. All the moves so far have been right on with the exception of Brunell. We obviously won't have a GM at least until next year. If Gibbs has another good draft, wins 11 games and a playoff game this year, will you still be calling for a GM? I think all of this is very easily possible this season. Let's let another season play out before we start trying to change anything that Gibbs doesn't ask for.
Remember, Gibbs was the one that won those superbowls. Beathard and Casserly certainly helped, but Gibbs was the main reason we won. GMs back then pretty much ruled the draft, but the coach was the one who signed players who were released and got them to play at all pro levels. We had a lot of those type of guys who were very crucial to our teams success back then.
I personally would LOVE to get Casserly back, but as you know, him and Gibbs didn't always see eye to eye, and that might be a reason we never get a GM while Gibbs is here. That is unless Gibbs takes that spot once he retires from coaching

The game has changed since Gibbs last coached. There was no Free Agency. Plus Gibbs is a very smart guy. He always is looking to find the best solution, and he is wise enough to know the Patriots have had the best solution for the last 4 years.

For me, the equation is quite simple:
When Gibbs left football, he still achieved success in a role requiring budget management and talent acquisition. Of course, the structure between the two entities is entirely different but a similarity does resonate between a salary cap and a restrictor plate (not really but I like the way it sounded, lol)
Now, when Marty Schott was given carte blanche and Vinny Cerrato got canned, the best gig bug-eyed Vinny could find was answering our emails for ESPN on Draft Day. I almost feel like typin that sentence again to emphasize my point. Now, dude may have played some QB in college or whatever but I'm not seein where he is qualified for the role he is in.
Historically, I do realize that the hybrid role of GM/Coach has been unsuccessful more than there has been success with it. Eventually, something usually does give. But I have more confidence in Joe Gibbs taking a shot at it after having stepped into a role more akin to a GM than I do with a glorified toady like Cerrato.
So, should the B&G hire a GM? My answer to that is: "I don't think it's necessary yet." Joe hasn't really had an opportunity to let his plan pan out yet over more than a short term period, and while the whole LC thing is a debacle on several levels it can still be considered carryover from previous 'regimes' which it appears Coach Gibbs is still in the process of expunging...

Ok So I'm a dunce.

Either way I think the Skins will be fine with the president of Gibbs Racing calling the shots in DC.

I can't say that drafting has been a problem for the Skins. Cerrato was the one who made The Skins draft LA instead of Courtney Brown. Chris Samuels. Fred Smoot. Last year Sean Taylor and Chris

ey. Their ratio of good drafts has been solid.
FA signings have been the big problem. Gibbs has fixed that with the only real blemish being Brunell. Who knew that he would play that poorly though...no one saw that coming. I think we should give the current FO setup another year or two before we jump on the offseason media bandwagon of bashing the Skins. Gibbs has only had one year so far to work with Cerrato and Snyder. Let it roll...see what this coming season brings.

At least we don't have a set up like the Cow girls where the Owner is not only visible, but he freakin operates as a GM, and even introduces his newly signed players...thank the heavens...

I am a fan of the fiscal restraint that seems to be going around at Redskins park. I only question how genuine it is? Is it because they are in control, or is it because they have no cap room?
What ticks me off is that over the last several offseasons there has been no constraint at all, coveting everyone elses players. This year, they decide it is time
to show constraint... On our own players???
What really infuriates the fans is not only to do the skins get taken to school by Coles and his agent, among others who have come here to get paid. They then proceed to
get trashed by coles in SI after he's gone. I mean you rob the bank, then spit on the teller??? What gives?
-And don't get me started on Sports Illustrated, the biggest anti redskin rag going... If they aren't trashing the skins, there ignoring them and rewriting history. And shouldn't the trashing really be reserved for teams like the Yankees and Cowboys?

Welcome and enjoy the best site for Redskins news and views! There's opinions aplenty.
We are just getting thru the ides of March and things are still looking pretty good.
Hang in there and don't give up the ship, we'll be fine. We've got a great skipper and he has set a course. This is going to be a season to enjoy.

As much as we've heard Mr. Snyder being bashed since he bought the team I know he has heard us. The man made some mistakes because he didn't have any idea about how an NFL franchise should be run, and he was like a little kid in the candy store. However, while he made mistakes it was through the process of what he thought was going to help the team win. I don't think anyone can deny the fact the man want's to win and in many instances overpaid to do so. Having said that, I would certainly rather have him spending (excessively) sometimes trying to buy a winner than to have his predesessor who had no money to spend on the team, or the passion for winning.
While we consistently have accused Snyder of medling and not understanding the business, he has to learn like all of us do. I dare say that any one of us who paid 800+ million for anything wouildn't want to have a say in how it works, mistakes and all. I'd much rather have Mr. Snyder than Mr. Bidwill, at least he makes his mistakes trying to win.
Hail!!
