A friend of mine is a toy designer and he recently got back from a toy fair in NYC. At the fair, he was given a complementary copy of a new game coming out in May, 2005: "America's Army".

Not much of a video game buff, he gave it to me. I'm not much of one myself (to be candid) but I gave it a try.

This game is pretty awesome! You have to play it online to connect with the server...to allow you to participate in "missions" with other online players.

Apparently, I am told that this game is officially sanctioned by the U.S. Army..and they use it to help train soldiers. I'm not 100% sure about that...but it sure plays like it could!

If you get a chance to check it out in May (or so), I recommend that you do so.

Remember: "AMERICA'S ARMY"

It's actually been out for a couple years on PC, this might be a new version of the game.

You can go to jump school sit in a classroom and learn real First Aid techniques, do the basic training stuff, go the sniper school, even become a member of a special forces team.

It's a great game, and highly realistic.

I know you said you're not much of a videogame buff, but if you like that game, go pick up a copy of Full Spectrum Warrior. It's also based on a training simulation by the army and it's fantastic. You lead two teams of 4 through a fictional middle eastern city after a humanitarian mission goes wrong, it's a lot of fun, and plays like the inside of a movie.
