at the combine. Troy Williamson ran a 4.38. Kinda makes u wonder who to take if they are available for drafting. Who would u take if u were Gibbs?

I'd take Troy Williamson. He's fast and he succeeded on a team that didn't have a high powered offense.

Does anyone know what Terrell Owens' 40 time was for comparison sake?

Every time someone mentions Williamson as a first rounder, just look at them and scream MAMULA at the top of your lungs.
This draft is sooooo deep with quality WR's, taking one in the top ten doesn't make much sense to me.
Watching the combine today, I caught a group running a skinny flag out and a 12 yard curl, the players that really impressed me from that group were Brackins and Gibson. Clayton dropped some and seemed to lack a little in his push step.
From the QBs, Frye looked like someone that may eventually be a bus-driver Brad Johnson type QB, Mcpherson was high with everything and Fitzpatrick struck me as a Jason Garret clone. (if I were the Redskins and needed a young guy to back up Ramsey for the next 5-7 years, I'd throw a late 2nd day pick at the Harvard-educated QB. A smart kid that's not going to need a reduced playbook for a 1-2 game stretch filling in.)

Troy Williamson is a great draft choice, he has good size at 6-2 190 and he ran a 4.38, he has speed and can make things happend after the cach, something mike williams may not do

Well it's probably faster than Mike Williams. He might be there in Draft now that the Bears sign Muhammad.

Don't forget the Vikings.

Mike Williams, Gibbs will use Mike like he used a guy named Art.

Mike Williams. Just because Troy ran a 4.38, that doesnt make him an automatic superstar. Remember the last blazing receiver we took? Can anyone say Desmond Howard?

True, but that is if we GET MWilliams.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was gone by the time we got a chance.

A side not on Fitzpatrick.
He nailed just the second perfect score in NFL/Wonderlic history. He joined Pat McNally (a P/WR from the Bengals of the '80's) as the only players to ever score a perfect 50.
I don't think people understand how dificult the test is.

You never know. We have the #9 pick out of 32 teams.

Sounds like you don't want us Redskins to draft a top-flight WR

. If Mike Williams is there we take him. If not, I wouldn't mind getting Williamson.

According to the combine, Troy is 6-1 202lbs.

Don't buy too much into the hype over 40 time at the combine. The analysts on NFL Network were talking about how some guys ran like 4.5 and 4.6 last year and had great rookie seasons (drawing a blank on exactly who). The combine is counted as way to indicative, and as a result guys can improve or decrease their draft status, and as a result, their contract size. Williams also ran a 4.52 and 4.57 last year I think. He also looked like an incredibly cut, TO type of receiver. I hope he falls to us.

How did Pat do in the NFL? I certainly don't recall his name?

a couple years ago, anquan boldin ran a horrific 4.7 in the 40, which dropped him into the 2nd round. he went on to be offensive rookie of the year.
TMQ wrote a good article about 40 times, that includes this paragraph:
TMQ wrote: Should NFL scouts even care about the 40 to the tenths' place? Read this excellent article by Kathleen Nelson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She notes that before the 1990 draft, Jersey/B was thinking of taking somebody named Emmitt Smith. Then the Jets saw Smith's 40 time was 4.7, while Blair Thomas ran a 4.45; Jersey/B took Thomas, a bust, and left the NFL's all-time leading rusher for the Cowboys to select. Nelson notes that last year, receiver Anquan Boldin was dissed by scouts and fell to the second round of the draft owing to his 4.7; all Boldin did was catch 101 passes and make the Pro Bowl as a rookie.

Not only him, but some of the other receivers we have taken since him....
Westbrook
&
Gardner
come to mind
We have not done to well on drafting receivers since Gibbs left the first time.

Just because you don't recall someone means what?
MCINALLY was a decent punter who even made a pro bowl or two. He was also the Bengals' 3rd receiver during their Super Bowl run.

Mike Williams showed great guts in running at the Combine. He was told by his agents not to run - then changed his mind as he was watching the other guys run. Frankly, I think he's much faster than his time - he's got football speed. Williamson is a sprinter, a track guy - thus the difference in the time. Williams was uncomfortable in the "blocks" and started poorly, mainly because his butt was too high. Down the track, he wasn't on a pure straight line - bad start, no recent track experience and deciding to run on the spot - still ran a darn good time. Williamson is a sprint pro - he's a running machine. I'd take Williams over Williamson any day of the week - and 15 times on Sundays!

I agree, especially given Williams' huge frame. Just because people are quick and/or can run fast, doesn't make them a big time receiver (see Desmond Howard). I'll be interested to see what Williams runs at his private workout in March in Florida.

Everybody's making a huge deal of a 'slow' time that was about the same as last year's.
Guy is still a player... I guess the pundits that seem to feel the combine has some huge bearing on someone's ability to play FOOTBALL will now put his value down a little bit. In my opinion that just means someone will get a heckuva player a little bit lower down the selection order.

To bad his speed doesn't match his heart and soul when comes to playing pure Football.

I don't see it as too bad at all. Didn't seem to be hurting his game much in College.
... and yes, I understand that the NFL is different and that guys are faster and blah, blah, blah... but if any of us had any sure fire ways to predict a guy's NFL potential... we wouldn't be sitting here on this board... we'd be at the combine scouting talent.
Any of you ever looked at this guy outside of the prototypical receiver sense? I see a phenomenal TE with his size and RELATIVE speed.
