Hi skins fans, it's that GK guy from pantherfreaks.com, the Carolina Panthers F2F site.
I thought I would drop in and give you guys a quick update on the happenings here in the Carolinas.
We have now signed all of our draft picks, with only Nelson(2nd round) missing 1 day of camp.
DeShaun Foster has returned to practice. You guys remember him dont you? In his first NFL action he scampered 70 yards for a TD...against the Redskins.
He hasn't begun full workouts, but I'm expecting to see that by the 3rd week of camp.(maybe before)
We signed Terrence Wilkins-WR to a one year deal. Wilkins comes to us after being released by the Rams on July 22nd. He's an explosive return man with decent hands as a wide out. He should provide us with a great replacement for Dyson, and releave Steve Smith from part of his return duties. He'll team up with Michael Bates on kickoff returns.
All pro DT Kris Jenkins is working on a long term contract that will keep our defensive line together through at least 2005.
Camp began Saturday morning at 8:50am with a full pads practice. Coach Fox said things went well and according to planned.
Everyone here in the Carolinas are getting excited. Especially after ESPN ranked the Panthers front 4 as the #1 Defensive line in the NFL, followed by Tampa, Phily, and Miami.
Feel free to join in on the conversation on our msg board, and I look forward to talking about our upcoming preseason game with you all soon!

How does Stephen Davis look in Carolina colors? That will take some adjusting. You guys have quite a team down there. I for one expect you guys to make some serious noise in the NFC this season. Good luck. I think that with Davis getting the ball stuck in his gut and with the way that Delhomme can throw, you guys definately should be considered playoff contenders.

james- A nut? After reading your post, you should take some of your own advise and commit a few words to your memory..
tasteless
classless
tactless
We like to keep an open mind in here. Your opinion, while it is yours, isnt a fair one. Don't act like a Cowboy or an Eagle fan and rail other teams before the season even starts. Be friendly to our guests, bro.

I'm sorry if I offened any one. Just offering a little constructive criticism. Every team has it's flaws. Yours is being in a division with Atlanta, Tampa, and New Orlenes.
Oh and Mr. wingman I am a skins fan born and raised in wash. d.c. (if you can't tell by my spelling) I'm not friendly to anyone except skins fans between the months of aug.- jan.

Rule #5
5. Agree to disagree. Everyone's opinion counts, is valued, and should be respected. If you can't respect someone's point of view -- ignore it! Personally attacking another poster by name-calling will not be tolerated. You may call someone's comments "stupid" without calling the person who made the post "stupid". Take any negative personal stuff to a private message or e-mail.
Just clarifying the rules here. Friendly banter is most excellent and I, for one, encourage it. Let's just stay free from personal attacks (which I haven't yet seen) and everything will be cool.
Unless, of course, you're an Eagles fans.
All Eagles fans must first pass throw a metal detector before posting on this site!
...just tryin' to keep the streets safe for the rest of us!!

Everyone is okay here... just wanted to clarify a few things... no name calling... no personal attacks... let's all just try to be civil and get along
There won't be any attacking other fans just because they aren't Redskin fans. I'm the Redskins representative to F2FA, the Fan 2 Fan Alliance... there will be opposition's members in here EVERY week during the season. We will treat them with respect. I will open a Talking Smack forum if you like and it can all go in there, but in here, we'll be civil.
'Wingman is a nut' is name calling.
Calling james tasteless, classless and tactless is a personal attack.
Both parties are violating the rules.
Honestly guys... I want conversations here to be free and uncensored... but I won't put up with senseless drivel. The thread could have existed without it.
This board is called hog wash if you don't want to talk negativly about all teams (except the skins) go to around the league and post your message
Not true at all. It's for talking about the Redskins. Like I said, we'll open a Talking Smack forum and we can take all of our battles there... and I have no problem at all with that. I look forward to brutalizing a Cowboys fan or two myself.
Does that sound cool with you guys?

I posted a talking smack forum.
From now on, if threads get a little heated... we'll just move them to that forum. That way, I'm not big brother but we can keep this forum relatively civil.

I'm glad you all have that view of our team! Keep it up! That's what we want from you guys... and I hope your players feel the same way you do.
See, we can't talk smack to the Skins. We haven't beaten you - although you were given a gift when Seifert for some reason pulled Biakabutuka in the second half when we were smoking you a few years back, and in 2001 we had you beat until Arrington intercepted a Weinke screen and took it to the house to tie, and you got a FG to win it in OT...
We've been close, but not closed the deal -
I don't expect either team to show their true colors in this preseason game because we play in the regular season, and really it doesn't mean much who wins this preseason game... but rest assured we'll be back.
I don't blame you for not knowing or caring about the Panthers. No one outside of Charlotte cares about the Panthers - with good reason as of late, but to say this team is talentless is crazy... but don't take my word for it - you'll find out when we steamroll your @$$es in week 11.

Well, I guess it is time for me to offer my apologies to those who may have been offended by my hasty reply to comments made previously. As someone who should know better, I failed to take the high road on this occasion and I am now left to take my medicine for that. I will now step off the soap box so as to continue my part in making this site the best it can be.

Young continues to impress
Rookie WR-Walter Young continues to impress the coaches and the media during the Panthers training camp. With the hamstring injury to WR-Steve Smith, Young has been forced into a starting role for the preseason games and making the best of the opportunity.
"He's kind of been a surprise as far as being able to pick it up as quickly as he has and been able to do the things he's been doing," receivers coach Richard Williamson said.
Young has been impressive. He regularly has made diving catches and used his 6-foot-4 frame to leap above cornerbacks. He has worked at all four wide receiver spots, and the coaches say he has mastered the playbook as quickly as any rookie could.
Young's draft stock tumbled when he ran a 4.67-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
"I think our personnel department did an outstanding job in selecting him," coach John Fox said.
So far, speed hasn't been an issue.
"I'm a long strider and I tend to catch up on people without them really expecting it," Young said. "I definitely can do it. I've got good speed and I just have to use it to my advantage."
"I think he probably runs faster than we give him credit for," Williamson said. "Some people can run fast without the pads and some people can run fast with the pads on; it doesn't appear to slow him down any when you strap the pads on him.
Julius Peppers 2.0. Bigger, faster, stronger?
He’s bigger. He’s stronger. And he’s got a gigantic chip on his shoulder.
That’s not good news for opposing right tackles in the NFL.
Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers, the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2002, spent three-quarters of last season proving to critics he was worthy of being the No. 2 player selected in the NFL draft.
He did that with 12 sacks in as many games.
But a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy against anabolic steroids and related substances has left a sour taste in Peppers’ mouth.
While all Peppers did was take a dietary supplement that contained a banned substance, believed to be a derivative of ephedra, he now has it in his head that others think his impressive rookie season was tainted.
He may be paranoid. Or, he may be simply looking for something to fire him up.
Either way, if the suspension serves as motivation for Peppers, nobody is about to tell him anything different.
“It doesn’t have to be said, but I know it’s out there,” Peppers said. “It’s like there was an asterisk by my numbers, like I couldn’t do that on my own. I want to get to 12 sacks, and more, this season to prove people wrong.”
Peppers used the suspension as motivation during the offseason, spending the better part of the spring in the weight room, getting physically bigger and stronger in the upper body.
How big is Peppers?
Like Bill Bixby, you wouldn’t want to make him angry. And in the early part of training camp he’s been throwing offensive lineman around like the big bully at the end of the block.
“I think Julius has definitely become more physical,” Panthers head coach John Fox said. “He is a year more mature as far as the knowledge of the defense and the techniques that he has got to know. I see a lot better Julius Peppers than I did a year ago.”
Peppers enters his second NFL season more relaxed and comfortable with the defensive scheme, but said he still feels a pressure to perform well.
“Everybody is saying, ‘You did it as a rookie but I want to see it again,’ ” Peppers said. “Nobody is putting any pressure on me that I don’t put on myself.
“Everything everyone has said, I already expect it from, you know what I mean? If you expect seven sacks in three games, then I expect nine sacks in three games. That’s how it is.”
Peppers refuses to talk about any personal goals, but it’s fairly clear that he believes he’s going to have a pretty big season lining up at left defensive end opposite Mike Rucker.
The Panthers plan to use him more at the “ghost position,” which is the football way of saying he’ll line up more outside the offensive tackle, thus giving him more of a running start toward the quarterback. It’s designed to take advantage of his superb speed and explosion off the ball.
“Instead of being right over somebody, I’m a just little wide where I can get a running start,” Peppers said. “We did it last year a lot but we’re running it a little more this year.”
And Peppers is excited about it.
Peppers also thinks he will benefit from playing together with the same defensive front four of Mike Rucker, Kris Jenkins and Brentson Buckner.
“I feel that we know each other now,” Peppers said. “Everybody knows each other and we feel comfortable with each other. I think that will really help us out.”
Believe it or not, Julius Peppers may be more of a factor his second year in the league.
notable notes
• Coach John Fox said a magnetic resonance imaging test revealed no serious injury to wide receiver Steve Smith's hamstring. Fox said Smith's type of injury usually takes one to three weeks to heal.• Offensive tackle Matt Willig signed with the Panthers and worked out with the team for the first time Friday night. Willig has 12 seasons of NFL experience, having played for San Francisco, St. Louis, Green Bay, Atlanta and the New York Jets. He provides depth after Melvin Tuten suffered a season-ending knee injury.
• With the preseason opener against Washington less than a week away, the Panthers will work out in something close to a game atmosphere.
