*IF Drew Brees is let go in SD - Dump Ramsey

San Diego has a decision to make. Keep Brees, who had a break out year or play Rivers, who has a big contract in his 2nd year. They probably cant keep both of them.
Not that it will happen but Drew Brees would be a great fit with the Wash Offense. Now proven. Big arm. Smart. Tough guy.
How about it? IF it happens - I would grab Brees in a second. I am tired of waiting for Ramsey to develop.
I do like Ramsey but it will be his 4th season and who knows? At least Brees can move a little bit.

I believe the Charegers are 20 million under the cap. THey do have to resign some big names, but it is my understanding that they can, and are planning on, classifying Brees as their Franchise player. They are going to let him play a one year contract to see if he is the real deal. Then they'll make their decision next year. Also, we do not need another new QB that will take a long time to learn the offense. It took Brees 3 years to learn Marty's offense. Ramsey will come, he is finding his confidence.

Awww....man...you're going to catch some serious flack for this post...there are some big time Ramsey lovers on this board...

Personally..I'm not enamored with Ramsey...but I don't think adding Brees is the way to go. Who knows...Ramsey might turn into next season's "Brees" -- lest we forget before this season, Brees was about to go the way of Cade McNown, Akili Smith and Ryan Leaf. People...dare I say even his team...had given up on him.

If Ramsey is mediocre next year...then I'll start losing faith...until then...we need to stay put at QB...

tired of seeing Ramsey? The guy hasn't even played a full season yet, seems like a waste of a first round pick if we don't atleast give him a shot....... Drew Bree's has played 1 good season.... you're really seriously ready to pay this guy big bucks to take a chance to see if he's a fluke or not?...

Um... no....

Compare the starting records.. 12 wins for Brees just this year. Ramsey barely has that in 3 seasons.
Here come the excuses: different systems, coordinators etc... Ramsey has never looked like an NFL QB. Anyone who says different hasnt been watching the games. He looks scared in his drop back and makes poor decisions. Three years in and he is still developing.
Yes the Brunell deal set him back but excuses, excuses...
I will definitley be the first one to post my apologies if he has a great 2005 and leads them to the playoffs.
Sorry, its my opinion.

ironically i think brees is the best reason to stay with ramsey. brees was subpar for his first 3 seasons then finally broke out in his 4th. let's see... what year is ramsey in again? and think about it-- ramsey is MUCH better after 3 seasons than brees was. he has shown much more promise. we have to give this kid at least one more year-- a FULL year.

USS Redskin... i posted somthing about brees earlier and it got shot down fairly quickly... let me state. I LOVE RAMSEY'S HEART. now if the skins had a chance to get brees, he showed somehintg last year that can't be overlooked. he battled through a QB controversy and had a GREAT year. i would seriously consider brees. i feel more confident about brees being a solid QB then i do ramsey and i am sick of the skins getting crappy QB play. the skins should entertain the thought. again... just my opinion.

Ramsey does look like an NFL QB, esp. when he has time to throw the ball. He looked scared in the pocket? You would too, if you had spurriers blocking scheme. He really started coming on in the last couple games of the season. Ramsey will be a great qb. I'm not convinced about the bree bandwagon anyway, could be a kurt warner.

It took Brees until his fourth year to show anything... what's your point?

You opinion is your opinion which is fine... but why aren't others aloud to express there's? (See Below)

Anyone who says different hasnt been watching the games.

Seems like you've already got the people who disagree already figured out... :|

Where in my statement does it say no one else can express an opinion?
If you think Ramsey shows poise, comfort and confidence in the pocket, even when he has time, then you are wrong and have not paid attention to the games.
You can definitley have that opinion, express it and believe it. I believe you are wrong and would never tell anyone not to say what they think.

What pocket? he's been sacked 53 times in his last 20 starts... that's 2.7 sacks per game not including hurries and pressures....

who's not paying attention to the games?

The kids got and arm and if he gets time he can get the job done.... the problems not Ramsey.. the problems the O-Line and bringing Brees in here and paying him a big contract would be silly.... a waste of a first round pick, a waste of another season of a new QB trying to learn the system, and not a smart move overall...on an unproven QB....

Heres just a couple, if you can't see potential, then, I'm sorry.
Looks pretty good here:

Brees is going to demand a big contract. He's NOT proven yet. You don't give guys contracts when they aren't proven. That being said, San Diego isn't letting Brees go anywhere unless somebody offers them something big.

Ramsey has looked great at times during his time here. THAT is why there are so many Ramsey lovers here and around the league. Ramsey has played very well when given time to throw the ball. He's also looked great at times when he didn't have time to throw the ball. He hasn't had that much time to throw the ball overall in his career.

Anyone with an eye for talent can see that Ramsey has all the tools to be great. Now all he needs is the system to breed the confidence that is necessary for a QB to be great. He now has that with Joe Gibbs.

In a system that helps a QB come along, a QB can be brought along in a couple years to a high playing level, but usually it takes longer than that. Ramsey is about 3/4 there. Ramsey will break out in 2005 because Joe Gibbs is here. Bank on it....

Good point about the sacks, Bringthepain - and a good 20-25 of those 53 sacks were b/c Ramsey is a statue in the pocket and holds the ball too long.
I am not trying to blame Ramsey for all the problems. I do like the guy, just want to win and was jealous of Marty's success in SD this year with Brees. I have been hoping for 3 years Ramsey was the answer. Hopefully the Skins can do it with him... I am skeptical.

It's cool... most of us are... but I think he's got potential... think of it this way... Peyton Manning is a statue in the pocket to... he just gets the protection from his o-line to make him a great QB... pressure Manning and he makes mistakes... just like Patrick.... not saying that Ramsey is gonna be as good as Manning... but I think he's got the potential if he can get a full season under his belt....

Let's stick with Ramsey and try to get some continuity going around here instead of chasing the hot name of the moment. Brees has (1) good season and all of a sudden Shotty is coach of the year and people are ready to put Brees in the Hall of Fame.
The NFL's history is full of (1) season wonders who can't keep it up. Scott Mitchel comes to mind immediatly.
Let's build a team instead of trying to buy one again.
I love the comment someone made in another thread about this not being Madden Football.

Can't keep patching holes with Free Agents. Drew Brees is not the answer. A case of a guy getting hot in his contract year. He is a flawed QB that is the next big flop, remember Scott Mitchell and Rob Johnson. QBs that had no pressure, had success for a short period of time, when handed the full time job, they crumbled.

It should not happen and it will not happen.

I know some fans are desperate for victories and anybody can express his/her views but I am glad sometimes this is all we can do: express our view. I am glad we are in JG hands.

Keep Ramsey!

I hate that revolving door!!!

We need continuity and chemistry and whatever else its called. I hate seeing a entirely different team every season. Lets give Ramsey another year in a professional offense and see if he can do for us what Drew Brees did for San Diego.

Not me - not a chance in the hot place I switch to a shorter, slower, weaker, older QB - not even at half the price. Ramsey deserves a shot at the job with a REAL o-line and some weapons... along with play-calling from someone other than putridly conservative play caller.

I'm happy for Brees, he earned his payday somewhere - but there are several teams with huge holes at QB. Dallas is one place I think he could end up. Miami would be wise to get him - biggest need is there probably. Cleveland is up in the air; Oakland is in need; the Packers could sit him a year; the Cardinals need him badly too - far too many other spots to worry about him being a Skin.

Plus,BGSS, Gibbs already said that Ramsey will be the starter... I probably should have just posted that -= you can take that to the bank... Because Gibbs Said So

Brees Prefers to Stay, Ink Long-Term Deal

Updating previous reports, Jaymes Song, of the Associated Press, reports San Diego Chargers QB Drew Brees reiterated his preference to remain with the team and sign a long-term deal. "I want to stay in San Diego, absolutely," said Brees, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March. "I want a long-term deal, because I feel like I'm the guy. I'm the guy that needs to be there and lead us to a championship, so that's the way I feel about it. The ball is in their court, obviously, and we'll just see what happens." The Chargers are expected to designate Brees their franchise player, ultimately restricting him during the free agency period.

Everyone who posted about the revolving door is correct. Stability. We arent getting Brees anyway.
Let me say this, too:
I am so glad Philly lost to the Patriots. I cant stand Philly fans and if they had a Superbowl win, then they would be totally unbearable. We would have to nuke the city...

Ramsey's the man.. I only missed one game and I didn't see any of the things you described . This is the kid that came in and beat the playoff bound Vikings , came one play away from beating the Superbowl bound Eagles. Also had a fourth quarter come back to beat the Cowgirls. WE won that game as far as I am concerned.
We don't need a QB we need a WR or DE thats my two cents.

Your kidding right ??? Ramsey has had his brains beat out with those great blocking schemes , so he has to be reprogramed, Look at the 1st Giants game , he was still doing what Spurrierwanted him to do, throw it deep and what ever happens just happens. Gibbs will work with him and he will be a player that we will all be proud of.
