OK,Here's the BIG one. This poll will bring out the old-schoolers.I'm going to have to go with Doug. I love how cool he was in the pocket and he had one of the nicest pass I have ever seen. Also for the heat I took being a white guy pulling for a black QB and going to a redneck school.

Sonny. I may have never seen him play, but listening to his commentary for the past decade or so has given me all that I'd need to hear about him (anecdotes, analysis, love of the Skins and of football) that I'd ever need to hear.

I never saw Sammy Baugh play, but my Dad talked about him as football's Walter Johnson. I voted for Baugh.

But of the QB's I've seen, and I've seen all the rest, it is Sonny Jurgenson. No one else is even close...Sonny first, second, and third.

Does anyone remember the Giants game in Sonny's last year when Kilmer hurt his ankle, we cheered because we knew that George Allen would have to put Sonny into the game. Sonny trotted/waddled/lumbered off the bench, losing by about 13 points with about 10 minuters left in the 4th Quarter.

Jurgenson did not miss a pass -- not a single incomplete for the rest of the game. All short and medium passes, all over the field, used every receiver. The Skins scored two TD's, preserving Allen's streak: he had never lost to the Giants since he came to the Redskins.

For emphasis: Sonny was 40 or 41 at the time, and people had been saying for five years that he could no longer throw the long pass. It didn't matter. The Giants tried everything...they blitzed, they played zones, the mixed, but they coukdn't defend a single pass, even though they knew that Sonny was going to throw.

Sonny all the way.

I'm still stunned that Keanu Reeves is not on this list.

His performance does tend to bring tears to my eyes. . .

Prior to 1986 or so I was only an observer of the Redskins. I was a young fan of Doug Williams and the Bucs (with their cool orange uniforms and logo - I still say they're better than what they have now). When Williams came to the Skins I had no choice other than to change allegiance. My dream was seeing Williams in that second quarter. I've been a loyal ever since - Though I must admit I was ready to throw in the towel on Danny....until he hired Jow Gibbs that is.

By the way - No Heath Shuler to choses from? Heath Shuler, Desmond Howard and Michael Westbrook. Any wonder why we've sucked for so long? Thanks Charlie!

Your nuts. Casserly was 40% of the reason we won the superbowls. Charlie fielded the guys and Gibbs put them to work...Go thru any GMs career and you'll find plenty of Heath Shulers...

Charlie is also the one that engineered the new orleans trade that in the end got us, Champ Bailey(who got us portis), Jon Jansen and Lavar Arrington. We also traded some of those new orleans picks in 2000 to trade up to get Samuels with the 3rd pick. Not bad for trading down two spots and STILL getting the guy we wanted.

Charley Casserly was and still is one of the best GMs in the business. Looks at how fast he's making Houston good.

The reason we sucked so long was because Cooke Jr. got rid of Casserly(nice loyalty to one of the guys who helped build the dynasty) instead of Norval. Not to mention the fact that Snyder(non football man) has had to learn from scratch how to run a successful team.

I gotta go with Sonny and like Welch, I have seen all but Baugh. Never saw anyone run a better 2 minute drill.

I don't remember details as well as you my friend, but I was watching, thanks for bringing it back so well. The trot/waddle I do remember

Sonny was the man, played on some terrible Redskin teams but could light up the score board, throwing passes all over the field, he had the quickest release, he was great.

I went with Sonny, he had one of the prettiest passes ever. If he hadn't been on such bad teams people would consider him in the top 5 all time. He led the NFC in passing when he was over 40.

Due to only ever living in Austarlia and not seeing anyone prior to Joe T - I voted for Doug Williams

I haven't seen anyone prior to Joey T, but I have read alot of about our history, especially since joining his site with the most-excellent history section, and it seems like Sammy Baugh was the man. I think he is the grandfather of the modern quarterback.

As far as quarterbacks I have actually seen play, I gotta go with Theisman. As much as I dislike the guy, he was a great quarterback for a the few years I remember seeing him play.

I will NEVER EVER forgive him for not concentrating on the SB game against the Raiders and instead try to get as much light on himself as he could the day of the game.

He started the SB game ALREADY exhausted. He spoiled the game for what it is in my opinion the BEST ever Skins team in history.

There was no shotgun then either...but that day against the Giants, old Sonny could still backpeddle, set, and throw quickly - 11 for 11...and he had a bad knee and hadn't played in a month...

One story about Sonny (not politically correct but anyway): Sonny had to attend a safe driving class to atone for a drunk driving charge. One day a fan came up to Sonny and they talked for a while. After the guy left Sonny told his wife, "I haven't seen him since school." His wife said "high school or college?" Replied Sonny, "Driving school".

No, I agree - I love what Charlie was able to do in passing on Ricky Williams and stockpiling those draft picks for us. I like Charlie Casserly. But still - Heath Shuler, Desmond Howard (though I understand that Joe Gibbs may have actually been pushing for Howard) and Michael Westbrook. I understand that every GM has their bad picks, but three (mostly) blown #1s in a row is simply devastating.
