What ? No Timmy Smith ?

Larry Brown. You had to see him run, or block, or catch a pass to understand. Maybe: imagine a player who ran like Portis, with quicker takeoff, had hands almost as good as Charley Taylor and Jerry Smith (and there are no current Redskins to compare with Smith and Taylor, so how about the great Art Monk), and was a blocking back in college.
With Riggins about equal.

I love Riggo...Byner too....and don't forget about George Rogers and Gerald Riggs. My favorite though - Kelvin Bryant. I dunno,...the guy was tall and lanky but I always thought he ran with a lot of creativity and heart. Kelvin Bryant.

gotta go with Davis. I wasn't around for Brown, so I can't pick him. Riggo was a beast, but I didn't like his character, so he's out. Davis to me was a guy who didn't learn how to run until his 3rd or 4th year in the NFL. He initially ran standing up and then learned how to run downhill. I can't think of another good RB who hadn't already learned how to run before he got to the NFL. What a great find that guy was. He coulda been top 10, mebbe 5 in total yards running if a couple things woulda been different.
Terry Allen was a very close 2nd. What a story for the guy to whack both acl's and come back and play as well for the skins as he did. 21 TDs in 1996. Always loved that guy.

Larry Brown was the man, played with heart and passion, he was tough, played hurt alot, never really got the credit he deserved.

I dunno . . . how about
LARRY BROWN.
Pretty predictable for NC43Hog, but what can I say, if you ever saw him play you would understand why I love this guy. I remember teammates having to literally pick him up and drag him back to the huddle, he would be so exhausted from giving 110% - then BAMM he was out like a shot. The guy left it all on the field.
Remember the Philly game at RFK in the snowstorm Welch. I think he had a career day that day - just a joy to watch.
afterthought - I remember Mike Thomas being a pretty good back for the Skins too.

I agree with Welch, NC and... ...George Allen and Vince Lombardi!
Yes, Vince Lombardi: Larry Brown.
He played -without- a great OL. The Hogs were not around to help him. I agree that he has not received the credit he deserves.

i voted for byner although riggo is the man... i only remember one game against dallas with him... but i remember alot of byner... the one thing that endeared him to me was when he dislocated his finger and that sucker was sticking straight up... they popped it back in and he kept on plugging away... far and away one of the all-time underrated players. he had guts.

Riggo will always be special to me but I voted for Larry Brown - god he was tough...undersized but did whatever it took to get in the game...but he grew as a running back: learned to block to get on the field as the lead blocker; then improved his receiving to become the 3rd down back; then earned the full-time job by his punishing runs...I remember the game where Jurgensen tore his Achilles and Kilmer (oh no) had to replace Sonny: Larry busted up the Giants for about 200 yards...

said Wysocki.
I remember that one, too. Since I was living in New York, I only got to see Giants games, plus MNF and the extra games. So I saw that one, and had seen the Dallas game the week before, when Sonny carved the Cowboys into little pieces. I thought, OK, the whole offense is working...we'll win the Super Bowl.
When Sonny snapped his achilles, Brown just lifted the team over the Giants.
Remember they played the Giants, the Jets, and the Giants, three weeks straight? In the Jets game, Brown took a short dump pass about 85 yards for a TD. In the second Giants game, Allen called time with the ball on the 1 and about 5 seconds left, and the Redskins leading. Kilmer pulled off his chin strap and walked over to Allen, shaking his head. Then they ran Brown: snap, bang, touchdown.
What a player!

Cliff Battle-he kicked the heck out of it when Nagurski was averaging about 3.4 yards a carry.

I'm now officially an Old Guy - cause I love Larry Brown. I still admire Terry Allens' gutts to fight back from injury - he's a good role model. If Brown had played in this day-and-age, surgery would have returned him to the game at full strength. IMHO, he'd have been the all-time leading rusher in the history of the game. That aside, he's a classy, quiet, great person too. Check my avatar man - he's the Best :0)

I would have to go with Riggins, but Stephen Davis comes pretty close. I also think that Davis would have been a more suitable back in Gibbs' system.

I wasn't around to see Riggins but from what I've read, and seen he would have been my favorite. I love a punishing back and I wish he was on our team now!
