so do you guys think he is the BEST EVER?

im not old enough to remember the Lombardis, Shulas,... so in my opinion he is. back then i feel like football was much easier to coach because it wasnt the phenomemon it is now. plus i just have a feeling football was more pass and catch back then. Now its a 365 day sport with meetings at 4 AM with HDTV projectors that are able to find every weakness/strength of a team.

I'd say one of the best ever, but whose to say who THE best is. Other greats like Gibbs, fielded solid teams throughout their tenure barring a couple mishaps and won with different guys etc..

Let's see how he handles himself losing some coaches and how the patriots do the next 5 or 6 seasons. If they are a good solid team with a shot at the superbowl more often than not, then yeah, I might have to call him the best ever.

I'm really impressed with the Patriot team. 3 superbowls in 4 years during the salary cap era with what, 4 losses in like the last 40 games? That's definitely a dynasty and probably the best team ever. It's a close call with the Steelers that won 4 in 6 years.

i agree. we'll see how he faces adversity, losing both crennel and weis (sp? ) at the same time.

Crennel's the brains of that operation. Look at how Belichek did while he was with the Browns.

This is the first year that I feel the Patriots were the best team in the league. Their first Super Bowl was because of the ridiculous "tuck rule" call and then the "Rape of the Indy receivers" last season.

This year they were clearly the best team in a terribly down season league wide.

I remember Belichick when he was the brains of the Giants defense...the one defense that the Redskins could not crack.

He has been good for a long time.

But the best? No. I don't know how you compare, except to notice that, although BB has the same playoff record as Lombardi, most of Lombardi's wins came in chamionship games. No three round playoff systems...best of the Eastern Division played best of the West, one game. (Except for Super Bowls 1 and 2, in which the NFL overmatched the AFL team so much that people saw the Packers/Cowboys NFL chamionship games as the real game; the SB was like an exhibition game.)

Joe Gibbs is the best ever!!!!!!

You cant take anything away from the man,three super bowls in four years.I have got to respect that,even if I dont want to.

No, he is good but just not the best. The best ever was a former Redskins coach who gave his name to the Trophy: Vince Lombardi.

Behind Vince, there are others from previous generations.

BB is good, very good, just not the best.

Tom Landry must have been a heckuva a coach. He came within a dropped pass of equalling Noll in the 70's and his players evidently weren't very good. (At least according to HOF voters)

But immature kids? We have always had them (and not so kids). The only difference is that they are WAAAAY overpaid now!

Belichick could be considered one of the best coaches but the title of 'the best' would have to go to Vince Lombardi. His Packers were one of the most dominant teams in NFL history and he his still the measuring stick of coaching greatness.

Exactly. Thats my point and those coaches didnt have salary caps looming over their heads.......
