If we do not get a go to wide out in the offseason or draft we will be flirting with the same record/results of this season! First of all coles is a tremendous player but I feel he lacks height. No team in the leauge even gets worried about our passing game, and why should they. Another big problem which I blame on the coaching is that when its 3rd and 8 or 3rd and 10 we have 2 wide outs goin out and a tightend. That is why we never see our guys getting open is because we dont send enough people out, so there all pretty much doubled up. We loose games because we dont have a playmaker at wideout that can make big plays down the field, so every team we play stacks the line to stop portis because they dont have to worry about us making a play over the top. When is the last time you have seen one of our receivers do a fade in the corner and jump over a corner and get a touchdown....not since the 80s. I think with a tall go to guy at #1 coles would be a perfect #2 guy. He has speed and takes the hits over the middle.

the reason our record was bad is due to Brunell and coaches that were feeling out their roster and defenses. We dont need a high priced receiver. This team will be built around the run not the pass. Ramsey will be good. Look how we finished. Our last seven games we were 3-4. 3 of those loses went to Philly, whom we almost beat, and Pitt. One team made the superbowl and the other went to the afc title game. That other loss was a fluke in Dallas. It takes time in the NFL to win.

There is no need for some high priced receiver like Plax that will be crying as soon as he doesnt touch the ball. Once again this is a running team and our receivers are fine. The problem is that Coach Gibbs didnt want Ramsey throwing the long ball for fear of the turnover. Once that trust is gained you will see more plays downfield and less horizontal pass plays.

hey isn't david givens a FA? he might fit in quite nice. he was clearly brady's go to guy while branch was out and he showed some promise. might be a good combo with coles and givens out there.

David Givens is a good suggestion. I think he would be a nice pickup.

We do need a WR, no questions about it. Coles can not do it by himself, he has good hands and at the end of the season I thought he started playing more agressive. (Eagles game) However, Gardner cannot catch He needs to be replaced, Givens sounds like a good pickup. He runs good routes, and has good hands. Also I cant wait to see our running attack with a healthy O-line.

When was the last time you saw Marvin Harrison jump over a corner in the endzone? As I said in an earlier thread. the playbook works, the player have to excecute the plays better. Ramsey has to put the ball were the WR can get some YAC. The WR have to catch the ball when it is thrown to them even when the ball is not perfect. The O-line has to block better both on runs and passes. Rome was not bult in a day and Gibbs is showning Danny S. how a team is built. I truly hope we do not buy any free agent WRs, I don't see any WRs out there that will better or exhibit more class than L.Coles

O-line then, DE, and then WR is what we need. If we can't run the ball and protect the passer then a WR is of no use. You can have a guy wide open 30 yards down field but if the QB doesn't see him because there is no throwing lane or the QB is getting hit the open WR might as well be on the side lines. A pass rushing DE creates turn overs and short fields and then you run it in (if you can). Gibbs has always believe in max protection and not sending out many WR, but you have to be able to run the ball for this to work. If you can run the ball WR are almost never double teamed. How many times can you remember Monk, Clark or Sanders being doubled. Hell Micheal Irvin very rarely saw double teams and he was the ONLY WR that Dallas had.

I agree, it's we do need a Wr. I would go after Muhammad at Carolina.

Lately, I've shifted my center of interest to David Givens. I wouldn't mind signing him or his teammate David Patten. I would sign them in a second.

The Patriots don't have anything to lose by letting Givens sign somewhere else, because no matter who you plug in there, they can be a success!

Why not give them Gardner, I'm sure they could turn him into a ball catching machine!

And to whoever said they want the WR from the Panthers must have a short term memory. I swear I'll rant and rave on this board if we sign him. Im tired of signing players who are past their prime. We need young players with potential.

I like Patten too, when Branch came back he didn't play as much but when he did come in he would make an immediate impact. I think though that Givens can be more consistant throughout a game. I have a feeling that we may have stumbled upon something with Givens. Do we have enough people to start a "Sign David Givens" thread?
