PR's Time in the Pocket

We have great lineman, no doubt about that. I just don't understand why PR doesn't get much time back in the pocket. Either my eyes are playing tricks on me or something is not going right. Maybe its just me, but THATS what you guys are here for right? Am I right?

I think a lot of the inconsistancy and poor play of the offense this year was from losing Jansen. Any mediocre D-End can get by Ray Brown. There was rarely a rush up the middle. Samuels held his own this year. Not exactly a huge comeback year but on his way back to probowl form. Patrick also needs to watch film of Tom Brady. I haven't seen a pocket passer move around and avoid hits with ease like he does for a long time. It also didn't help that most of the time there were only two receivers going out and the rest staying back to block. A lot of double coverage from safties removes passing lanes. If you don't have a receiver to throw to you're not going to throw it. All of the fault can't be on just the line.

yeah the line did all it could on the pass, but on the run they need to work on.
Coles and Gardner couldnt get open because of double coverage, which meant that pat had to hold on the ball longer, until the defense overcame the O-line. So its a matter of more recievers and less bockers , where they can get open

I think the biggest problem was pressure up the middle.
Ray Brown at right tackle reminded no one of Jon Jansen, but normally when a DE takes an outside rush the quarterback can elude it simply by stepping up in the pocket. However when your center and left guard are consistently getting shoved back in the quarterback's face, there's nowhere for him to go -- especially when you're as immobile as Ramsey.
If the Redskins solidify the middle -- particularly the center position, the pass protection should be much improved next year.

We need a center... no question. I really don't think that Dockery is that bad of a player though. It's also his second year. His first year after some horrible blocking schemes. His first year with a proven NFL O-Line coach. Raymer and Friedman were the weak link on the line from the get go. But losing Jansen hurt. Strahan beasted whoever we had at RT the first time we played the Giants and Kearse beasted Brown in both games. These are divisional opponents. Games we must win.
Bottom line was there weren't enough receivers on the field or receivers who could consistantly get open or receivers who should've been running routes when they were blocking. 90% of the time this year you had two wideouts with a corner and safety covering each one of them. The tightend(s) or H-back stayed back to block and didn't run routes. That's always going to be double coverage every time. No where to throw, scared to throw a pick and you end up with a sack. If you go back and watch the games you'll see Patrick WITH time but nowhere to throw. Probably a big reason that I think Joe takes a wide receiver with the first pick. 3 plays over 40 yards this year. 3! And correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any of them were for TD's. Gardner had 2 in the Dallas game, Jacobs had one in the last game and I can't remember the other one. The Portis run, but that wasn't a pass.
I think the passing schemes and receiver talent were at fault. If Jansen played all year that offense would've looked much different. Running and passing.

What time? I don't know of this time in the pocket you speak of. There is no time.

We had a coach that thought that was a good idea too. Steve Somthing.
The playbook works, the players have to
execute!

I think there comes a point where you have to put the blame on something. If I could pin point one offensive position that was a problem this year. It was WR. The O-Line didn't give up THAT many sacks this year. I watched every game. Ramsey holds on to the ball for too long sometimes. Since when has that not been a Ramsey problem? I guarantee if you go back and watch each game, there are plays where Mark or Patrick do have time but check off 3 or 4 times and STILL can't find an open receiver. You could have years to throw the ball but if you can't find an open receiver there is nowhere to throw. How many passes to do you remember this year that hit a receiver and he dropped because he either A)couldn't catch, B)ran the wrong route or C)got hit when he caught it? I can remember many.
If the quarterback throws the ball there was obviously enough time for the quarterback to throw the ball.

Maybe one day PRam can be in one of those "All Kinds of Time" commercials for NFL network. Once he gets some time that is.

wat i meant is that the wide receiver couldnt execute which meant they couldnt get open. and i dont mean that is in the Steve Something style, just bomb the ball downfield. Just like 10 yds but the WRs have to get open

I agree with washinton53. I think the line did a decent job on the pass, considering jansen was out, and our center situation. But on the run, the line just seemed to colapse. Maybe Portis gets to the holes before they develope, I dont know, but it seems like on so many plays he just had no where to run. Maybe that has something to do with the "predictability" of the offence as it was so often refered to as being. Remember Portis swearing that the oppsoing defence knew the play already?

I agree! I thought that Helton was a garbage Oline coach, but this unit only improved marginally with Boss Hog back. Samuals is the only lineman that had a good year. Thomas did OK. Double D was his usual looks great one play looks like he doesn't even know the play the next. R.Brown did a great job (considering he was an unemployed 41 year old guard that was forced to start at tackle while he was still out of shape) Raymer,... he got better every year the last time he was here, but he sure played poorly this year. And I hate to say this because I love the guy, buy Chris

ey blew a LOT of blocks that made the line look bad.
The biggest weekness was definately in the middle of the line! Replace - Raymor and Double D!

I respectfully disagree. The OL in '04 was mediocre. Obviously we lost Jansen. But we we gave up a lot of sacks and I believe we will correct that in the offseason. As I have mentioned before, we need to find startes at TE, LG, and C. Our only TE is Royal, Raymer is only a backup, and Dockery needs competition.

Im going to warn you guys not to get your hopes up. Regardless of we upgrade the talent we still have to wait for the line to mesh. The lines that we're trying to emulate have been playing together for years. If we keep this carousel going then we'll never be any good. I agree that we need help this year, but we need to get a foundation set and stick to it.

I agree but we need a good center.

Your absolutely right. I think we need to try to get a good crop of young players this year. I don't want anybody on this line who is going to leave in the next 2-3 years. We continuity and it needs to start this season.
