Brunell Signing in Vein?

We sign Brunell, he wins some, loses some, we put Patty in. O.K. so now what? We put a decent amount of cash on Brunell, but we put in PR. Now do you think that Marky-Mark will get his starting job back? Will Mini-Camps decide? Who deserves it? Who do you want to see in? I'm just curious why we make such a move, although I am aware that Gibbsy loves his vets, and use so much money to get someone we barely use. Is he bad because he's out of the groove, or is he just trying to get used to the new offense just like everyone else. I'm confused. Please help.

There is no way that Brunell will get that starting job back, unless Ramsey gets hurt. If Gibbs tries to re-install Brunell next year, I swear to God...I'll consider becoming a Cowboys fan.
Then again, that would be impossible. Maybe I'll just pick "figure skating" as my favorite sport if that happens.

Brunell is on the downside of his career and was forced to make a lot of short passes due to Gibbs' type of offense. Often times Brunell missed the receivers completely and other times, the receivers dropped passes.
Gibbs named Ramsey the starter for the 2005 season, so Brunell will have to be really impressive to start next year.

I agree that if Brunell gets that starting job back i think it will make players and fans not want to even arrive at fed ex stadium on Sunday's. This guy is the worst, i believe we need to restructure his deal to help us with resigning key players this offseason.

I actually like Brunell as a back up. He's a veteran and won't get frazzle if he has to come in, he's got some mobility and buy some extra time with his legs, and if he doesn't have to play each week and take all the snaps in practice, he may have a bit of a livelier arm next year.
Plus he can help Patrick with his development.

Is restructuring Brunell's deal an option? Now there is an off season move I'd like to see.
I'm not opposed to Brunell as the backup QB. But I don't know if I buy into him playing any better as a backup, or having a stronger arm or whatever. He pretty much sat out the entire previous year in Jacksonville. I kind of expected him to show up in Washington, well rested and ready to run and gun like the old Mark Brunell. Guess not...

Brunell played OK against Tampa, got injured against the Giants, and then played pretty well against Dallas. It was after that game that he really went downhill. Hence my theory that his arm can't hold up. But to come in an finish a game if Ramsey gets dinged, that might be doable.
I think the Redskins will ask him to voluntarily take a pay cut, but they have no leverage here. It would be a huge cap hit to cut him. They're basically just asking him to be a nice guy. They could convert some part of salary to a signing bonus, but probably not enough to make it worthwhile for him to give up the big salary he is due to make.
I guess we'll see how good a relationship he has with Joe Gibbs...

Ramsey is definatley starting next season. He overall is just a better QB. I think Brunell did bad was the fact that he used his left arm. Im not sure though, but he should take a pay cut and settle for a 2 string QB, because i beleive that if Ramsey started in the begining of the season we would have been in the playoffs.

maybe Brunell will do us all a favor and retire

that wouldn't be a favor, his bonus would accelerate and we'd take a full cap hit...

the only way he is to help us is to take a big paycut

Some might say that bringing in Brunell's old coach from Jax means that the team is considering giving him another shot at the title.
Those are the people that forget all about Leftwich, and how hard Musgrave pushed to keep the younger guy in.
The only short answer to the signing of Brunell is that Coach made an egregious mistake. I've been curious about where he got the idea that the man could still play, despite his showing in his last few games in Jax. I can only assume that Joe figured Mark's problems were environmental and not indicative of some physical decline.
"In vain", you ask ? Absolutely. It was a complete and utter disappointment, and a mistake that won't be made again.
"Gibbsy", huh ? Where'd
that come from ?

When the Skins signed Brunell I knew they paid way too much money for him but I was even more amazed to see how bad he was. I can understand that he is past his prime, but how the HELL do you drop in talent level by that much. At one point he was awesome, and the Jag's went like 14-2 or something like that and his stats was incredible.
The biggest thing im pissed off at is that we signed him for so many years. I guess I don't mind him as a back up but if he plays the same I do not want him to be our starter. I would much rather see Ramsey in there, and to tell you the truth I dont know who Gibbs is going to pick or stay with.
If Ramsey plays like he did this year then he should start and continue to keep the job but if he plays like he did in the preseason I wouldn't be surprized if a change is made. One thing is for sure, whoever is in there needs to have a huge improvement because with out a good QB we ain't going anywhere.

i think that the sign the Joe signed a younger coach, is because he wants the younger player to gain experience... Brunell has nothin to do with it

I feel that Gibbs saw the handwriting on the wall, he gave PRthe nod as the starter and proclaimed him the starter next year, maybe hoping Mark will go ahead and retire. We can't cut him, he is not going give up the money, so we have and aging QB as a backup. Were stuck with him.

I think Gibbs is taking the right approach with Brunell. Yes, he stunk, but, he did sign a long term deal, which, hopefully, pans out n the end (with improved performance --as a starter or backup). Íf we were to follow the logic of firing personnel when it doesn't pan out after a year, then good ol'Gibbs should be the first to go.
I think that, while Brunell is not the QB of the future for the skins, he definitely fits into Joe's plans to develop a nucleus of players for the long haul and avoid cap hell. So he stays around a few more years and mentors some young QB about the NFL, what harm is ther in that?? Meanwhile, Joe will find a way to keep his core skins, and build for many years to come.
Just think how much more tradeable #56 could have ben had Joe been around for his signing. Do you honestly think the organization would have invested THAT much money in him with Joe around?

Mark should be able to really help Patrick and younger QB's. At least it wasn't his brain that sucked, it was his arm. As long as he's not doing our weight training we should be fine.
