Plaxico Burress

THE NEWS

Wide receiver Plaxico Burress, asked by a reporter from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review following Sunday's AFC title game loss if he had played his last game for the Steelers, responded, "Probably so." Burress added that his desires might not mesh with the traditional Steelers' game plan. "I just don't feel like I'm involved [with this offense], that's the way I feel," he said. "If you have guys who can go out there and make plays for you, you should give them the opportunity to make plays. But I can't change things."

OUR VIEW

In case you missed it, that was Burress not making plays on Sunday, most notably a drop in the end zone when a Steeler touchdown could have cut the Patriots' lead to seven. Plax emerged as Ben Roethlisberger's favorite target this season, but we expect Big Ben will find a way to make due with Hines Ward and Antwaan Randle El should Plax seek fame and fortune elsewhere.

I say we get him and someone else in free agency and save our draft pick for another position.

Or, get Burress, trade Gardener for a pick and pick up a DE or O-line support.

Burress is overrated. We seriously need to start building this team through the draft. I mean, look at the players we drafted in the last five years or so:
Champ Bailey
Jon Jansen
LaVar Arrington
Fred Smoot
Chris Samuels
Rod Gardner (ok well at least he did good his 2nd nfl season)
Sean Taylor
Chris Cooley and many more

THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING MY FRIENDS, whenever we draft players we find pro bowl caliber guys, whenever we sign people theres a 50/50 chance theyll perform up to their price tag.

I'd be excited if Gibbs drafted some scrub WR I'd never heard of and turned him into a star...

I mean I'd only read very little about Cooley, and he was tremendous this season.

If we don't get Williams or Edwards then one of those big WR's in the later rounds might be able to pan out.

Thank God someone else feels like I do. Im sick and tired of Skin fans wanting to sign every big name in FA. Its like they haven't learned a thing from Deoin, Bruce, the Gator gang, Trotter, Armstead, Brunell must we go on?

i'm not sure i'd classify that as a 'drop' in the end zone last weekend. if he made the catch, it's an amazing one.

nevertheless, i still think plaxico is bad news.

if we could get through to him and keep him consistent I'd like to see it. But he has problem keeping focused. Football ADD sufferer, i think its caused by lots and lots of money.

I think half the problem is that the players star in a certain system and then they come to the Skins who keep changing the style of play. Look at Trotter...didn't do jack here and is back with Philly stuffing the middle and making plays. Our D didn't use him right. And I wouldn't include Armistead in that group. I mean at least he didn't suck.

Anyway, back to the thread, Burress has never really impressed me all that much. He'd still be #2 behind Coles. That'd be a lot of money to pay a #2. Think we should draft a WR.

I don't know...but I think I would take Burress over Gardner almost all the time. At least Burress is faster and actually catches catchable balls

This statistic includes Gardner of course...

No, I would not want Burress on our team. His ego is almost as big as that of R. Moss.

I don't think Plaxico's ego is that bad, he certainly doesn't make the headlines that moss or owens does. Plaxico wouldnt be a bad fit with coles. I bet in free agency we are going to make a move on somebody, better it be plaxico then musim (who's getting old), or jerry porter. I say go after him and trade down in the draft for the line but what do I know?

LOL R.I.C., I think Rod overcame his nickname this year. He was at least 75/25

I second that! I have complete faith in Gibbs, he has a nac for finding diamonds in the rough.

I thought 50/50 was Zeron Flemister or was that just me that called him that!
On the thread - Plastictoe reminds me a lot of Alvin Harper, and I don't think that he would be worth two cents on a team that didn't make the defense put eight in the box to stop the run. Plus playing next to the second best reciever in the NFL (Hines Ward)(M. Harrison is the best) doesn't hurt.

I was all in favor of Plax until I read that statement he made after the game. Seemed too much like meshawn and t.o. and he's not at their level yet.

But i still think we should give him a look. Of course he'd be the number 2 guy, but he'd be a great number 2. He's big , fast and actually goes for the ball. That's one thing we need to have is a WR that goes after the ball even if its not thrown right to them. One that jumps up for grabs and wrestles it away from the defender, a la Randy Moss. Plax reminds me of Moss in that sense.

As for all our past signees, they were all 30 plus. Plax is young and still has some learning to do which means he'll only get better. I agree with the system statement. The guys we've signed had played in a certain system for at least 5 years or more. When they came here they had a tough time switching and since we only gave them a year to learn it before we got rid of them, they all looked like busts.

If we signed plax it would be a little different, he could grow in the system. Unless santa gives us an early xmas gift in Mike Williams, I say we look at Plax.

Plax sounds like an attitude waiting to happen, we really dont need him , I think they will draft a young wide out . I think Taylor Jacobs just needs to play more, and we will have a solid wide out.

The Skin's don't need Burris. He drops to many passes and doesn't have great speed. He has to much baggage to spend the money on. Now if it was Hines Ward or Randle El it would be a different story.

I see alot of upside to Burress. I agree with his statement after the playoff game. He does not fit into Pittsburgh's offense. In 2003 the never threw him the ball when they were in the red zone (I don't know his exact stats but it seemed like he had quite a few yards and very few touchdowns) and this year I think he had less than 40 receptions. I see nothing wrong with him wanting the ball more. He feels he shoul be a top 10 receiver and wants the chance. To compare him to Moss or Owens (in both attitude and talent) is absolutely ridiculous b/c they are in a league of their own. I don't know if he would be a perfect fit here, but he is gonna be a very good player for someone.

He's not worth what he would cost. If we are looking into a star reciever, look for one in the draft. We have seen almost all of our recent draft picks to be huge stars. Plus, i really dont want to sign another expensive free agent and have him be a bust.

Right on, Warmother. We already have Plexico Burris, we just call him Rod Gardner.

I think that Plax is a good, strong-minded, TOUGH, receiver. But he is average. He's no T.O. or no Olden Days Rice. He's more of another Gardner that just gets a LOT more attention.

Just look at his comments. He's a baby that is an underachiever too.
