Hunting a Gamecock: South Carolina WO Troy Williamson, who is expected to be the No. 2 receiver selected in this year's draft behind Michigan's Braylon Edwards, had dinner with Washington Sunday night and has also slated a meet-and-eat with Dallas this week here in Mobile. The Redskins, who pick No. 9 in April, and Dallas, which picks No. 11, are both said to be in the market for a difference-making wide receiver and may be targeting Williamson.

Has Williams' stock dropped that low already?

I'm good friends with south carolina's back up qb mike wrath...he said williamson is the fastest guy he's ever seen...i'm not sure if that's saying much, but a deep threat would be nice

He's got plenty of all around talent. Reminds me of the situation with the
Stallworth kid that the Sainst picked up. He runs with very little effort - he's a natural strider. Seems to catch the ball pretty well too.

If we take this guy at pick 11 over Braylon Edwards I will slap somebody... The only way we take Williamson is if we trade down and even then I'm not sure if we need another speed reciever. We need a big possesion type and Williamson is not that

How big is this guy? IMO we need a large WR to offset the smaller, quicker Coles.

Troy is 6'2 200, he's a pure athlete, I've met him and I thought he was much heavier than that. He ran track against some friends of mine in high school and it was amazing how fast he was then. He was a great SEC reciever on Lou Holtz backward @$$ offense. He would be good for us.

if we take him at pick 11, then we DID trade down...we have the 9th pick

Troy Williamson, South Carolina, junior
6-2, 200
He combines good speed with fine hands, a big frame and the ability to go over the middle. He also is a tough runner after the catch, combining both speed and power. He is very tough in the red zone, where he can outleap defenders.
Troy is the man. I'd love to see him as a redskin. South Carolina has pretty decent recievers traditionally. I'd take a USC reciever over our crappy Clemson reciever any day of the week.

I was reading some scouting reports on this guy, and I can see why JG and Parcell's would want him. He is blinding fast, big, strong, and has nice hands. Also, he gets alot of YAC, which makes him very attractive.
If you look at history, some of the most dominant WR are not the favorites...Moss went in 2d round, TO in 3d. round...I think they have something here...switch #9 and 10, pick up a draft pick and TW..not too shabby!
Folks, I am officially jumping on the TW bandwagon...I think he is the "real" deal.

Glad to see other people joining the band wagon with me.

I have to wait for the combines before jumping on the Williamson band wagon. Ill still take Mike Williams over Troy even if he amazes at the combines, but maybe he can jump Braylon on my WR wishlist

i'M not sure Williamson will be at the Combine- but he's gotta have his own pro day on aritificial turf - with a tail wind :0). Not that he needs it, but Williamson is the fastest WR in the draft. He'll be a good pick, wherever he goes. I think it might have paid him more to stay in school another year and be the #1 overall pick... but it's beyond the point.

Noone insults Lou Holtz... lol
Troy Williams is lighter, shorter, and probably only about .2 faster than Matt Jones in the 40-time, but he has alot more coaching there which makes him much higher than Matt Jones in my book.

Ok Smithian, as Matt Jones' agent - every thread can't turn into a Matt Jones thread ...:0). Williamson is gifted, I don't doubt that. For that matter, so is that dude that was a QB at Arkansas, ...what's his name. For the life of me, can't think of it...
The other guy that folks are missing is Terrence Murphy at Texas Tech. He's got better size than the other Tx Tech WR's already in the NFL, better hands than them and better speed. Murphy is under the rader - but if people want the total package, Murphy could fill the bill too - at a lower price.
