I've died, gone to heaven and they put me in charge of the Skins...here's what I'd do:

Trade Gardner for a late 3rd round pick.
Trade McCants for an early 5th round pick.
Let Smoot, Lott & Marshall sign elsewhere. Re-sign Pierce
Cut Morton, Hasselbeck & Kozlowski.
Sign WR Jerry Porter
Sign CB Free agent -- not a high priced one, just a guy for a year or two, like Troy Vincent or W Harris were last year.
Sign TE -- blocking TE and Special teams player.

Draft:
1) 1st round pick -- Erasumus James DE Wisconsin 6'5" 256
2) 2nd round pick -- traded away for ey
3) 3rd round pick -- A Center...whichever of these 3 is available: Jason Brown UNC 6'2" 300 or Chris Spencer Miss 6'3" 310 or Ben Wilkinson LSU 6'4" 300
3b) 3rd round pick -- Kay Jay Harris RB 6'3" 245 (short yardage guy.)
4) 4th round pick -- Mike Nugent (kickoffs and long FG's this year & kicker next year)
4) 4th round pick -- An OG -- whichever of the following is still there; Buenning Wisc 6'5" 310, Snyder Oreg St. 6'4" 325, Terrell N Mex 6'2" 340 or CJ Brooks Md 6'5" 310.
5) Traded away for Thrash
6) 6th round pick -- a DT hopefully one of these two have slipped this far: Santonio Thomas, Miami 6'2" 300 or Anthony Bryant Ala 6'2" 340.
7) 7th round pick -- Ok, this will get some reaction..QB. Either Chris Rix Fl St 6'4" 217 or Timmy Chang Hawi 6'2" 194

4 RB -- Portis, Betts, KJ Harris, Morton

I hope you're right about Gardner getting more than a 3rd...what do you think we could get from him? A 2nd from Tampa Bay, Jacksonville or SD?

I was thinking a blocking TE to play with ey, not to take time away from him. Also, I was hoping we could use another Special teams player... The FA that got away from us last year was Kleinsasser...the stud blocking TE from Minn. I just think we could use a TE that plays like Don Warren...a guy that can catch the occassional pass but is best at pancaking the OLB...this is imperative for Joe Gibbs running game to work. Just my opinion though.

Let Smoot, Lott & Marshall sign elsewhere. Re-sign Pierce - We need to keep Smoot IF the price is right. Lott and Marshall need to stay also. They haven't made names for themselves yet so it won't be hard to resign them. Why would we get rid of our blue collar players? That makes no sense to me and thats been one of our biggest problems.
Cut Morton, Hasselbeck & Kozlowski. - Morton can leave. Hasselbeck needs to stay. The only reason I'd like to see him go is because I want him to fullfil is career and the starter I know who could be. He's a great guy and a great backup QB. Kozlowski is good blocking TE for now, theres no need to get rid of him.
Sign WR Jerry Porter- NO MORE OVERPRICED PLAYERS! PLEASE!

actually i was hoping that we trade Gardner because i dont see much coming out of the second round neways. But if we could trade Gardner for a decent CB. then we can get rid of smoot. And we can sign a fat center through FA. and with out picks we draft a WR, DE, and anything else we need.
and yeah ok i agree that we should get a Warren TE for our running game

I been reading on the board that everybody is saying we dont need a TE because we got Cooley, but we do need a TE to open up the passing more Cooley is a H-Back not a TE. We do need a TE. It was plenty of time were Royal and Cooley was in at the same time

I would be willing to trade Gardner, Rock, Betts, McCants and release Brunell.

I would also trade down from the 9th pick to get another pick. This draft is deep at DE and WR but if we can't get the WR from USC we could get the DE from Boston College, LSU or Wisconsin and still get another starter later in the first or second.

Gaurantee of the draft for the Skins..... Gibbs finds a bruising FB for the red zone.

I cant believe that someone knows the value of Kay Jay Harris! He would be perfect for the Skins.

You can't release Brunell because of the salary cap hit the team would take as for trading Betts thats not going to happen.

I know about JK Harris because I live near WVU and saw the Md game in person this year plus a number of other games on TV...I root for MD but think this young RB/FB is very very good...he'd be the perfect 3rd & 1, 4th and 1, goal line guy. I think he's good enough we could trade Ladell, seriously. He's 245 now, he could end up 255 or so...he's also fast for his size. We must get him.

Yes! Someone actually paid attention to WVU! Kay Jay is a very good RB. Would be a steal in the 3rd. Chris Henry (WR)would also be a good pickup if he is available in later rounds...a bit of a head case but he's got skills. And Coach Joe can grow em up.

Wouldn't sign Porter. I'd rather draft a WR. As for drafting a DE, I have to disagree. Our D was incredible this past year. Yes we could use a pass rusher on the line but No need to fix what ain't broke. Our Offense, on the other hand, is broke. Need to fix that. I think Gibbs is gonna have some increased four wide formations next year and we need the personnel to run it.

I hope the Bucs pass on Gardner...there are better WRs out there.

We should draft Braylon Edwards with that #1 pick.

I like the approach you took with modifying the offense, but also switching some of our "D" too. It sounds like a good plan, but I must agree with 'washington53' on the fact that Gardner is worth much more than a mere late 3rd round draft pick. But nonetheless a bright idea.

Two things...

1) I can't believe someone hasn't responded to my 7th round pick of either Chang or Rix...is it that no one cares or do you all think Tim H. needs to go? AND

2) No one responded to the Mike Nugent pick...again, do you agree with it or could you care less?

Some reactions to other posters:

I don't think we can cut Brunnel, the cap hit would be too much. This will be unpopular but I think Gibbs is right about something here -- put Brunnel behind a good line, run the ball effecively with a good blocking TE and another weapon at WR like Porter or TJ and mix up the play calling and he would be a good backup. A vet that you could trust coming off the bench if Ramsey gets hurt...I know, I know, I'm losing it. I've watched him play over the years and I just can't agree that he's done.

I really think we need a blocking TE and a big bruising runner.

I don't want to draft a WR this early in the first round...WR's in the first round just haven't worked for us -- Desmond Howard, Mike Westbrook, Rod Gardner...let's take a lineman. Lineman win games. I could agree with trading down and getting a 2nd round pick and drafting an OG in the first and a WR in the second. But, please, don't draft a WR with the 9th pick...Also, WR's take awhile to come around, they rarely give you much the first few years. A lineman can help right away. Do any of you remember that we could have drafted OG - Steve Hutchinson (6'5" 310 lb'er) from Michigan the year we drafted Gardner? We passed on him -- he's a stud now in Seattle.

I will literally shoot myself through my testicles if the Redskins draft Chris Rix. I'm a longtime FSU fan and graduate, only exceeded by my time as a Redskins fan. I've never...repeat NEVER...seen a player with more natural ability, but nothing between the ears. He's as dumb as a bag of hammers. He refused to be coached, alienated just about the entire team, never learned how to set his feet, throw the swing pass properly, read defenses, hold onto the ball, or just generally do the things good QBs do.

I thought I was finally through with this idiot, now I just realized that might not actually be the case! Somehow I doubt a man of Gibbs' intelligence will feel Rix is even worth a throwaway pick in the draft.

Tim should be resigned and continue has our #3
Chang maybe a productive QB at some point in the NFL
I've got to agree with orioles35 (welcome to the board)about Rix...you just dont know what you will get with him

We have Hall and Chandler going into camp and they will push each other
Mike Nugent may be the best kicker in the draft but do we want to pick him that high when we have other need positions and no real competion at those position going into camp
Nugent will be a starting kicker somewhere

This would be a plus or it could be that none of us want to believe that MB fell so far

I agree we could use a blocking TE but production from the middle of the O-line would eliminate the need for a big back, Portis with some blocking will get the job done

If Mike Williams is there at #9 I think we should get him although I agree WR isn't our top need. I don't think Williams will take long to develope

Trading down for more picks should always be a option

Too funny...I bet you're hoping we don't pick Rix then... I didn't realize he was dumb as a stump...I never really knew why he didn't reach full potential. I'm a Md fan and alum -- Rix beat us a few times.

If he's really that dumb, Gibbs will pick up on it. You're probably safe.
