Thoughts on Woodson

I kinda touched on this in the Draft section but with Smoot likely leaving and Rolle possibly being gone before #9, what would you guys think about Charles Woodson getting signed. He's probably leaving oakland and didn't have that great a season last year due to the holdout and won't get as much money as he'll probably demand. I think we could get him at a reasonable price. And greg williams already revitalized Shawn Springs' career, I think he could do it with Woodson also.

Just trying to get the board's thoughts on it

It is the offseason. We do not have real news to go for these days.

I would say that he is not a long-term solution but he will be looked at. The -other- more likely option is Ty Law, who is not likely to return to NE. We tried unsuccessfuly to sign him before he went there and won a SB.

With all due respect to your thread, the charles woodson topic is ridiculous. His the last 4 years has detiorated to mediocrity while his head has swelled to oulandish porportons. He thinks he deserves Champ Baily money, hes a proven cancer and has zero character..The Washington Redskins wont even entertain him unless he takes a monster discount(which wont happen)....Shawn Springs is avery unfair comparison. why?...Because S.S.is one of the classiests players to pass thru redskin park in a very long long time. Charles woodson is anything but...SS IS A REDSKIN, C.W IS ANYTHING BUT

Do not be too hard on CcHhDd. He is just asking our views.

While I agree with the unlikely scenario that Woodson will come here, players make desperate moves, such as big reductions, at desperate times, such as the end of their careers. Do you remember Gardener who came from Miami with an injury and a bad attitude? He played great for us.

It is not out of the question that he would take a big cut if he feels he would win. Would you not like to play in the top NFC defense next season?

The issue on character is serious. But the Raiders have always been a disfunctional organization (and they love it that way  ). He is a grown up. He kows that playng for Joe and GW means to be a disciplined player.

But this is academic. I really believe that the player coming our way is Ty Law. And he would accept the money that Smoot did not accept...

It all comes down to offer and demand. It depends how hot the CB market gets during the offseason.

WOODSON

The thought of bringing Woodson to the SKINS....SICKENS ME!
He is tooooo much "me." He is not a guy that will fit well with the skins. In addition he is a serious trouble maker. This last season he was arrested for being intoxicated. NEVER EVER~ would i like him in burgundy&gold.
LET HIM GO TO TAMPA! HE also wants more $$$$$ than smoot.
Woodson declined an offer from the raiders which was $14million signing bonus! come on now! YUK!

Can't even think about him being here.

Woodson is an attitude guy. Law is hurt and a question mark at this point.

Theres no way this guy will want less money than Smoot

Cornerbacks are being devalued. You no longer need to drop your last dime on a shutdown corner, due to the new WR contact rules.
Even if you still needed a really good one, Woodson wouldn't finish in the top five for me.

I hope Smoot stay's because he is a shut down corner, corners are hard to find, you know he is goin to play hard for u and earn all the money he gets. Now if Smoot would have made the pro bowl(which he should have)we would not be having this discussion. He had a better season the Ronde and Dre Bly,and Lito. WE NEED TO KEEP MY BOY SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.

DaRealistJoka? Your statement about Smoot being a shutdown corner is a joke. He's FARRR from being a shut down corner, he is more than adequate for our need at the position.

Smoot did not give much up this year plus he did not give up any touchdown this year, even Champ got beat more then
Smoot did. Champ is a shutdown corner right? Well why did he have .a much better season then him? and it is not that many corners in this league that can play man to man. Plus with our front four, without the blitz u have to have pretty D*** good corners. Smoot and Shawn was the reason y we can blitz so much

Champ is not a shutdown corner and neither is Smoot. I like Smoot but I believe Shawn covered the top teir WR's most of the time. Smoot imo is an above average CB, I'd give him 8.5/10 but he's no shutdown corner.

Woodson is a waste... There are much better current players and rookies than him. I agree with a lot of the others and say that he is washed up and a waste of money. All he is, is a "big" name right now.

I think that Smoot is gonna test FA. But hes going to find no one is willing to pay him as much as he wants to. Therefore he will come back and play with us next season. But by doing that he will have showed us that he wants the 4 mil. over playing for the third best defensive unit. It will be #1 next year when arrington is back

Smoot is going to end up in Minnesota or Arizona....

I think Smoot will soon become a shut down corner, I just hope it'll be in a skins uni :frown:

I'd like to see Ty Law, if he can prove he is healthy, he has played and won in a team first enviroment and I think we would need that to replace the vocal leadership that Smoot provided. I think Woodson would be about as good a fit as Randy Moss. Not too good.

Not me. I don't see any need to spend top dollar on that position any more.

Hey guys, wow didn't expect the vast response to this thread, offseason sure is boring isn't it. I was just throwing it out there. You guys keep saying he'll want too much money which is true but nobody in the league is going to pay it. He's gonna be a cheap pick up. And as for him driving drunk... maybe Sean Taylor can drive him around. Sorry had to say that one.. i love number 36 don't get me wrong.

As for smoot he's gone to Minnesota. Wasn't it last year minnesota was begging all the free agent corners to come play for them. Nobody signed and they were left with what they had but this year I think both sides will be desperate so Minnesota will overpay for Smoot.

Also, on the Smoot vs. Champ subject, I really find it hard pressed to find a shut down corner in the league anymore. Champ was his second year and that was it. I've talked with friends about this and we can't think of any SHUT DOWN corner. Sure there are a lot of corners you shy away from but very few that just take that whole side of the field away and don't need the safety help. Ty Law is possibly the closest but he benefits from zone coverage to get a lot of his picks. And I don't think that the skins will be able to afford his pricetag so unless we draft Rolle, we're gonna have to look at the free agent market.

Williams proved he doesn't need outstanding corners to play in his schemes. Woodson was once Outstanding and is now a fraction of what he was. Not a a solid guy to invest money in.

You have got to be kidding me.Chales Woodson has been injured as of late . But healthy there is no one better . Not even Champ . This is a the only defensive player to win a heisman trophy . And the only guy who could cover Moss one on one .
