Fassel Close To Being Named Ravens Offensive Coordinator

Jim Fassel has agreed to become the Ravens' new offensive coordinator, according to two sources close to the situation. Terms of the arrangement were not available last night, but Fassel will rejoin the Ravens' staff along with former University of Colorado and Washington coach Rick Neuheisel, who is expected to become the team's quarterbacks coach. Fassel was not available for comment. When contacted at his office in his home last night, Ravens coach Brian Billick would say only that anything about Fassel's accepting the job would be premature. "Not yet," Billick said. "That's not to say it won't happen, but at this time I have no comment. There is nothing official until we make the announcement." But sources close to the situation said an agreement had been reached, and all three candidates for the coordinator's job - Fassel, Neuheisel and New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach Mike Sheppard - were notified last night. Sheppard, the Ravens' former receivers coach, did not return phone calls. Neuheisel confirmed that he and the team were near an agreement.

This guy is a great coach, he won't be the OC for very long.

Fassel lost control of the players. Some of that, probably, was just the character of the players he had. Think of Shockey. But Fassel had some voice in choosing which players to select or keep.

He a puzzle. He coached the Giants to the Super Bowl, unlike Norv Turner, another OC who failed as head coach. And then, the whole team dissolved.
