Dear Steve:

Please pay attention, I'm only gonna say this once. I have two words that you should know about. These two words are the key to the Redskins being victorious each week. Those to words are

Rock


Cartwright

Although he only has 45 attempts this year (and that is largely your fault, Steve), he is averaging a pretty respectable 4.2 yards/carry when given the chance! Unlike Canidate, Cartwright plows through defensive players with authority and he gets those "tough yards".

Steve, if you start playing Rock more, opposing teams will have no choice but to start putting 8 men in the box more often. When they do that, are you following me Steve, you have a gentleman by the name of COLES that can exploit that.

Now, there....I've said it. And, like I said Steve, I'm only gonna say it once. Two words:

ROCK CARTWRIGHT!!

although I couldn't agree more, Steve doesn't think he needs that type of bruising back remember.....his offense does not need a runner to punish the opposing defense, like Ricky did Thursday and the previous Sunday

that's old school football and hopefully Steve will learn before it's too late

I think Spurrier would quit before he would change his offense that much.

Not to mention that our entire offense is now built around speed and we'd have to re-tool even more to go back to a power game. I think most of the linemen would be happy but we'd definitely have to add some better blocking TEs.

I think we have to get some d-line help above and beyond all else and nothing should supercede that... not safeties, not TEs, not o-line and not RBs. No pass rush has been nagging otherwise good Redskin defenses for years. Heck, we have (supposedly) one of the best CB tandems in the league, and we have 3 pro bowl LBs and our defense is still what? 26th? While there is no doubt that Edwards' schemes have contributed, this defense could tee off on teams if they had the pass rush. We got pass rush from ONE guy last year (Gardener) and it allowed this defense to move to 5th overall. It seems like all of the talent on the D is wasted because we're missing that one crucial element.

But I digress....

I couldn't agree more......and although the d-line is critical, so is our pass protection if we continue to use SS's offense. We lead the lead in sacks, pressures, knockdowns, etc.. SS better either rework his protection schemes, which doesn't seem likely that he can do or establish some type of play-calling like effective draws, screens, quick dumps out of the backfield or to TEs that will take away some of the agressiveness of our opponents. The future health of PRam will depend on it.

That said, I agree that we can have the best offense in our conference, but without a top 5 defense, we'll go no where.

I agree, but that's the plan for next year. My post was basically how we can get victories for the remainder of this year.

I think victories this year are insignificant at this point. This team needs to start looking longer term than one season and if we're gonna do that, then we have to forget this year... it's done... over... finis... caput.

We need to concentrate on what is going to help this franchise longer term... evaluate talent, evaluate staff... give some rookies more playing time to see what they can do (Jacobs, Russell etc).

Rock isn't our long term solution I don't think, so using him isn't solving any long term problems... we kept McCullough for nothing all year... I'd like to see him get some reps to see if he's worth the effort. Betts too. We need to know at the end of THIS year if we're gonna pin our 2004 RB duties on Betts, Canidate, McCullough or none of the above. That way it can be addressed in order of importance in the offseason. If none of them can do the job, then we have to look at picking someone (like Kevin Barlow) up in free agency.

Same with Russell and Jacobs. IMO, keeping 6 WRs on the ACTIVE roster (to dress 4) has been an absolute waste of time. Gardner has earned a spot on the bench numerous times and hasn't seen it. Russell has been inactive ALL year... why not just have him on the PS? Then you don't have to play musical players all the time because other positions aren't backed up properly (TE, QB)

Russell is an active roster member?

Wow, I didn't know that. Has he played a snap? I don't remember hearing his name once. I just thought he was on the practice squad.
