I'm not sure Musgrave will help all that much. Jacksonville's offense was as woeful as the Skins' last year.

I think its a shame we didn't think about upgrading our own offensive coordinator.

In reality our OC is Joe Gibbs.

Joe Gibbs is our real OC. And Musgrave is a very smart and creative coach. He will definitely be a positive addition.

He was fired from his OC job in Jacksonville "largely because his version of the West Coast offense, with its need for a mobile quarterback and emphasis on short, horizontal passing routes, was a poor fit for the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Leftwich." I don't see him really helping Ramsay, who is as immoblie as Leftwich.

I'm sorry but that has nothing to do with why Gibbs brought him in IMO. We do not run that type of offense and Gibbs hires people who he thinks will fit his system and his team.
Gibbs has another motive IMO! iniksder might have some ideas about this guy too?

Yea...I'm sure he worked with Brunell when Brunell was with the Jags and I'm sure Brunell might be thinking that if he had his old trainer he would do better.lol. All the WR stated that it was how Brunell floated the balls and the left handed spin on the ball. They stated they liked Ramsey's strong arm and the right handed spin. They need to think WR coach. Someone who can direct the players into routes that will get them open instead of simply running straight or across the field and a hopefully the QB coach will teach the QB's to pump fake and not stair down their WR.

That's my point, Gibbs does not run that type of offense and they are all saying that they plan to take more shots down the field next year, so I don't see why Musgrave was hired. During almost his entire coaching career as either an assistant or head coach, from the Carolina Panthers to UVA to Jacksonville, he has coached in the West Coast Offense scheme. The Skins don't run a West Coast Offense, so why would they want him coaching Ramsay? Tell me, what exactly is the plan with this guy?

I will tell you when Gibbs first came in here he switched offenses from Air Coryell to what we see now. Gibbs wants to change his offense to more of a west coast offense becuase he doens't have the running back to have that power offense. Ramsey showed he could be a game manager and do the short passes. He is changing his offense that is what Gibbs is doing. He will start running something like the west coast offense. There will be a lot of cut runs and we will draft a big Physical reciever that can make plays and we will have it set. Mike Williams or Edwards to go with Coles. He will get a center. He will use more of a cut running style to suit Portis and this guy will help Gibbs run a offense similar to the west coast. Like Gibbs did the first time around he is doing know creating a new offense idenity to what he was known for.

"Next year we'll open up the offense"
So, they go and hire a conservative offensive coordinator who got fired for having a horrible offense in Jacksonville?
What?
Note: Jacksonville personel don't do much for the Skins (see Wynn and Brunell).
This is a very strange hiring and is negative for Ramsey IMO. I would like to know if Musgrave was "Pro-Brunell" or "Anti-Brunell" in JAX.

I concur with John Manfreda. Gibbs ia adapting and the Skins will be the beneficiaries.

I hear what you're saying, but the Jaguars failed to score more than 28 points in the two years that Musgrave was their OC. Their offense was as awful as the Redskins' offense last year, and they averaged about the same paltry number of points per game (around 15, I think). Your point that the Skins' overly conservative offense was drifting towards the West Coast style last year is well taken. I'm not sure that's a good thing, though. The fact remains that Musgrave ran a terrible offense in Jacksonville, even though he had great talent in Fred Taylor, Jimmy Smith and Byron Leftwich. Leftwich's play, while good, didn't improve with two years of Musgrave's coaching. He winds the ball up like a pitcher and has trouble reading defenses. Leftwich really looks and sounds like a smart player who is a quick learner, which leads me to believe that the problem was Musgrave. His hiring still mystifies me.

Ramsey has been hindered at times by the Redskins' seeming reluctance to throw the ball up the field. Gibbs has suggested he wants his offense to become more vertical in 2005, but Musgrave's background is in the West Coast design, and some Jacksonville players criticized him for being too predictable in his play-calling in 2004 and for not challenging secondaries enough with the deep ball.
The consensus was that Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich did not progress much in '04 under his tutelage.

This guy is being brought here IMO:
1 Gibbs needs help with the offense & the QBs
2 This guy is someone he is comfortable with
2 He knows Mark!
When people work or play for Gibbs they do it under his direction and he seems to bring out the "best" in people and players. If he's here because Gibbs wants him then that is good enough for me.
Any doubters can go to church and pray for help!

Ramsey has had so many guys coaching him in his short career, hopefully he is able to take the best of each and learn.

I never said he was good, he is just brought here so Gibbs can learn the offense and adapt those types of playes into his books so he can run a similar offense to the west coast. I think the Redskins fans should give this guy a chance before we start bad mouthing him. Look Gibbs hires last year on the staff, would you really complain about any of them.

Don't play too hard on the Brunell/Jags/Musgrave connection. Don Breaux is the slow-motion, dragging a lead weight-part of the offense. Musgrave can't hurt. Ramsey is going to benefit - and he will throw the ball down field.

Still, a solid addition...and proof that Joe is willing to adapt and changes. Burnsie will get kicked upsatirs (possibly to slap the "former offical" who's calling all the stupid challeges

)
It's just qb coach, you know. All he's going to do is help Patrick with checkdowns and 3-4 WR sets.
's good.

I'm worried about the Brunell-Musgrave connection, any thoughts.
