Today he had an accident. We are pretty sure he totalled his car. He swears he is fine but it truely is a miracle if he is. It was extremely slippery and foggy on a back road he takes home. He couldn't see and went off the road, almost flipped the car and tore down a section of fence. This particular section of the fence holds in 200 cows. The farmer who at first was nice now wants us to pay for the fence out of our pocket. Our car insurance company says not to pay, that they will handle it. Just give him the claim number and their phone number. Meanwhile we had the tow truck guy charge Scott, when our insurance says they bill them directly. It's been nuts and it only happened hours ago. So I guess we may soon be car shopping again. Good thing we have my car as a back up right now. Whew!!!!! But he definitely had an extemely close call today and Jackson and I are very greatful that the fence entered the windshield on the other side of the car. Or else I'm sure I wouldn't have been posted anything here tonight.

Equally, wow...it's hard to know what to say...except please stay safe...go easy tonight and the next few days...sit under a tree and look at the sky and the hills (if this weather clears...we still have snow, rain and fog up here), look at Jackson and be glad everyone is intact.

Oh and Taz, all the cows escaped, so no one will be able to eat them

(just kidding). I didn't even see any cows. I was too busy try to miss trees and not flip over

Glad you're OK. I had a couple of close calls myself in the past. I was in a car with some friends and we totaled his mom's car. I couldn't believe nobody was hurt. I was in the back seat. It's weird how some people demolish a car and don't get a scratch and others lose their life. I guess it's all about physics. Take care.

I was in Washington and Maryland yesterday and I have to say that I was surprised to notice that not too many cars were wearing winter tires. Keep them in mind particularly if you take the backroads. Winter tires save many lives in Canada.
I have a Volvo AWD station wagon and it is a great winter vehicle. The other car with "all weather" radials does -not- go out when there is snow on the ground.
I am glad you are fine.

Um, Tonto ? The tree you were trying to avoid ? Ummmm, yeah.
That's called an "air freshener", m'kay ?
Take it easy out there, man. You have a family now. No more reckless adventures of youth for you.

At least stick around long enough so that Jackson doesn't give up on the team !

Oh come on TC, JF does not have to be around so that doesn't happen! Remember who his mother is!

Not that I don't want JF to stick around but you know what I mean.

Well it's official, the car is totalled. Now we are just waiting on the adjuster to cut a check to the finance company and then to us. We were lucky to get out of an accident like this without major medical claims according to the lady at our insurance company.
To answer some of your questions, yes Scott was wearing his seatbelt. And while that may have saved him, what mostly saved him was the radiator. A piece of the fence pierced it and had it been 2 inches to the left it would have missed the radiator and likely entered the windshield at his head level. I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason. So this was a wake up call for our family. The car had all weather tires on it but maybe that wasn't enough. RIC I am researching snow tires, although I am not sure if they would have helped. It was slick but no snow was on the ground.
Sorry for the rambling. I am a bit sad to know that we will never again ride in a car that we have so many memories in. We brought Jackson home from the hospital in that car. I know it's silly to be sad at the loss of a car but I am silly I guess.
Scott keeps saying I should be happy, this gives us the opportunity to upgrade our car to a safer option. So I guess on to the future!
