so we tag smoot... and we cant sign him so we look in the trading block.
what would you guys want for a young talent such as smoot?
(1) 1st and 2nd round pick from a team that needs a CB
(2) a good center... raymer sucks
(3) a Wide receiver
(4) Defensive end
if smoot decides to follow bailey's road, we wont be able to get as much value for smoot as we got for bailey... and whatever we get wont be a big as clinton portis talent, but we could get something nice to help with our weakness.
i really dont want smoot to leave but im just assuming and thinking as far as the team goes
i would hope that if we dont have smoot, we need to get Antrel Rolle... so getting another pick from a trade could insure us with Rolle.
My ending questions
(1) so you are in the trading block, you are a team that wants smoot... what do u give the redskins in return?
(2) what team could be our trading partner?
i wanna hear your opinions, i hope no bashing occurs

My opinion is that its ridiculous to assume that we franchise tag Smoot.

The way I look at it is this...
If the Redskins are willing to give Smoot an $11 million signing bonus and make him a top 10 paid corner back then that is more than a fair deal.
Considering there are 64 starting cornerbacks in the NFL and the fact the Smoot has not made a Pro-Bowl yet. If Smoot makes more money than 54 other starting cornerbacks then he should be happy, especially since it is Springs who is the one coverring the top wide receivers (Moss, Owens, Chad Johnson, etc.)
Smoot should stop talking to Bailey since Bailey is the Anti-Redskin.
I think Smoot should talk to Darrell Green and Springs about the meaning of TEAM instead of talking to Champ Bailey about the meaning of GREEN$$$.
PS, Smoot wont be tagged because he is not worth top 5 CB money and the cap number for that is not ideal considerring how much the top 5 corner backs make...we could not afford to pay top 5 CB money next season. At this point it is "take it or leave it" and the Skins have the leverage.
Greg Williams has already shown 12 times this season that he can insert a no-name and have success.

I really don't think we can stand to lose him. I think he's better than Champ although he doesn't get the hype in the national media. I hate to lose young talent that we drafted.
But assuming we lose him, I'd like to get some draft pix.. We need receiver/o line/d line help via free agency/draft. i prefer building for the long term through the draft.

If we were to franchise Smoot we would get 2 first round picks if we lose him.
We also would have to offer him at least $6.8 million (6.8 is the average of the top 5 CBs last year before Champ signed with Denver). This would count against the cap from the time we tag him until we actually get a contract signed)
Fred is a good CB, but not $7,000,000.00 per year good

we'll get a 1st and next years 3rd for him.
We will definitely Tag Smoot. The only question is whether it will be a Franchise or Transition tag. I'm inclined to think that if we are pretty sure Smoot isn't going to sign, we will hit him with the Franchise, knowing that someone will give up picks for him.

CP... pics are NOT allowed in signatures. Check the rules if you need clarification... yours has been removed.
Just out of curiosity people... if Raymer sucks so badly, why didn't the coaching staff put Friedman back in at center????
I'll tell you why... because like me... they don't think Raymer was the problem.

BH, if it wasn't Raymer, who was the problem?
Was it Dockery? If so then Friedman would have just as easily occupied his spot as well.
IMO Raymer was the weak link on the line, get a better center and Dockery is going to start looking a lot better, he's still got a lot of potential.

This post was about Smoot!
We won't Franchise Tag Smoot because we can't afford a $7 Million dollar gamble. If Smoot is holding out for top 5 money then other teams are smart enough not to pay that, even if we aren't. The idea that you will certainly get draft picks is pretty ridiculous when you consider that you can simply draft a corner of his quality and pay less money.
I don't like losing our young guys either, but I'd much rather lose one and be able to afford the rest than pay Smoot $7 Mil and have to get rid of a bunch of other young talents who aren't holding us hostage.
I say no negotiating with Terrorist!
Salary Cap terrorists that is.

thanks for getting back on topic...
cause if fred can't stay, due to watever... money, etc
would we rather let him go as a free-agent, and see who picks him up?
or would we rather get something in returned for him such as a trade?

If we lose Smoot, we can always go for Rolle. He may be better anyway. Smoot is good, but not franchise tag good. Hopefully we can get something for him if he's not staying.

Smoot is a top 10 CB. That's not as easy to find as you think. We will tag him in some way, because if we do, we will get compensation for him. If we don't we get nothing for him.We are offering him a $10 mil signing bonus mainly because we can't offer him much more than that. What makes you think somebody else won't give up picks and a bigger contract for him? Players like Smoot always get overpaid because teams want to fill their needs soo badly. We Tag Smoot, no question about it....

Well, there's a rumor that Snyder invested some money in magic beans.

No, these are new beans. Cap beans. See, what they do is... well first you plant them, and then what they do is they grow and expand your salary cap. I think they use dead cap space as fertilizer. I'm no plant expert, so I don't know all the specifics and whatnot.

If Smoot leaves, we have options with the extra money. A cornerback to replace him would be nice, there are several in the upcoming draft we could look at. A widereciever i dont think we need. Coles and Gardener can get the job done. As for a third reciever, put Thrash in! Like Boss Hog I dont think Raymer is the problem so dont spend the money on that. A Defensive end might be an ok idea, but the best choice is a replacement for Smoot.
