how far fetched is it for rod gardner to be trade for a second round pick?

you never know, the chargers might be interested, considering they need a WR and already have two first rounders and it wouldn't hurt too much to give up a second

i don't know, just curious....thoughts?????

No way! Remember that initially Philly wouldn't pick up TO for a second rounder. Absolutely no chance, maybe we could get a 3rd round pick if we're lucky but even that is pushing it.

why should it be far-fetched? if a team wants to use a 2nd round pick on a WR, they could either use it in the draft and wait 2-4 years for him to develop into a real contributor, or trade that same pick for a young but experienced WR who could contribute immediately and still has most of his career in front of him.

what's undesirable about that?

Thing is, second rounders are coming in now and starting with exceptional ability. Yes, there is a gamble -- but you can still have long term success. Drafting receivers is tricky, but I think that they can get plugged in easier than other positions (O-Line, D-Line).

While I don't think it will happen, there could be a chance of it since Marty Shotinhimer drafted Garnder with a #1 and might think he would be getting a deal.

Rod Gardner can throw the football. That will have to get us a higher pick if we do trade him.

for him. The only thing he's done consistently is show how friggin' inconsistent he is. One game he'll make 2-3 highlight reel catches, then he'll either disappear for 2-3 games or get a case of the dropsies. We definitely need an upgrade at WR.

Gardner is in the same class as Peerless Price - would you trade a 2nd or even a 3rd for Price? I didn't think so...

Actually, I think that this is a pretty good point. With all of the reverses and trick plays being run, one thing Gardner CAN do is pass the ball. It's looked perfect everytime he's thrown it this year, Coles just wasn't making the catches.

Teams trade for inconsistant receivers all the time. Dallas traded for Quincy Morgan? The must not have seen any tape on him. I'm just saying it's very possible.

yeah Champ it seems like that happens to us all the time. We let a sucky player go then he becomes a superstar.

a late 2nd rounder to the Chargers isn't that far fetched but I also wonder about Jacksonville -- they could use another WR and he grew up there. Was a heck of a player in HS in Jacksonville too.

First off dallas traded for quincy morgan so that they could get rid of antonio bryant.

Second off, drafting a wr in the second round and trading for one are totally different things. If gardner is worth a 2nd rounder then why are we trading him in the first place. That's how other teams see it. We're looking for someone to take him off our hands so his value goes way down. Realistically, maybe if we're extremely lucky a 3rd or 4th rounder, but most likely a 5th. Either way I say we take it. We might be able to entice a team since gardner only has a year left. They pick him up for a year, see what he's got and if they don't like him they can let him go and gain the cap money. So we might get lucky there.

I just hope we get rid of him. Hopefully get Mike Williams but if not let Thrash, Mccants or Jacobs step up into the number two role. Either that or pick up one via Free Agency

Exactly, I'll say it again, TO was traded for a second round pick and even then Philly didn't want him the first time around! We're not going to get close to a second round pick for Gardner.

Wrong. He was traded for a second round pick and Philly was never informed of the deal. They only found out about it during their press conference to announce Kearse.

The law of supply and demand would drive the price up or down.

It is just a matter of how badly a team wants or needs him. Marty used to be in love with the guy. He might want him in San Diego. I would market him there. You never know...
