I just saw on NFL countdown that Reggie White died this morning of a massive heart attack.

This is truly shocking. My thoughts and prayers go out to Reggies family.

White dies Sunday morning
ESPN.com news services

Former NFL star Reggie White has died after suffering a massive heart attack Sunday morning at his home near Huntersville, N.C., ESPN's Chris Mortensen has learned.

The former Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles defensive end, a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame who retired as the NFL's all-time sacks leader in 2000, turned 43 on Dec. 19.

"Today our beloved husband, father and friend passed away," White's wife, Sara, said through a family pastor. "His family appreciates your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of Reggie White. We want to thank you in advance for honoring our privacy."

Nicknamed "The Minister of Defense," White had 198 career sacks with the Eagles (1985-92), Packers (1993-98) and Carolina Panthers (2000).

White went to two Super Bowls with Green Bay, winning a ring after the 1996 season.

In addition to being one of the greatest defensive linemen of all time Reggie White was one of the good guys. By all accounts he was one of the nicest people you could meet off the football field.

RIP Reggie White

This is very disheartening. I always respected the guy because he was one of the classiest people in football. This is shocking considering his age and his high profile.

RIP brother Reggie. You will be missed.

R.I.P. I don't understand how he could die just like that at 43. U know? It doesn't make sense to me. I saw something on tv about him and how he was studying hebrew or something and how people didn't like that. And how people were told to stay away from him. It's interesting. This guy interests me. I think he was really into God. God bless him.

Younger people never seem to realize that with every breath you take, you get closer to death.

People rarely know when their time will come.... and it's almost always too soon. Be thankful for all you have EVERY day and make the most out of it.

Reggie White certainly did.

The Hall will not lift the standard five-year wait, even though the chances of White coming out of retirement to play as a HOF'er have been "considerably lessened" by recent events, in my opinion.
