Nine Eagles to represent NFC in Pro Bowl

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Philadelphia Eagles had nine players named to the Pro Bowl on Wednesday.
Quarterback Donovan McNabb and receiver Terrell Owens were both selected for the fifth straight year and tackle Tra Thomas earned his third Pro Bowl berth.
Three members of the Eagles' starting secondary will also represent the NFC. Free safety Brian Dawkins was named for the fourth time, while strong safety Michael Lewis and cornerback Lito Sheppard each will be making the first trips of their careers.
Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, who has solidified the run defense since taking over at middle linebacker in midseason, has been selected for the third time.
Also recognized were two members of the special teams, with linebacker Ike Reese joining Lewis and Sheppard as first-time Pro Bowlers. Kicker David Akers was named for the third time in his career.
The Pro Bowl will be held on Feb. 13 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.

Their defensive players making the Pro Bowl over ours is criminal. And Trotter has only started about three games this season. What a popularity contest!

I don't think Dawkins or Trotter should have gone, but I do think Sheldon Brown should have. He doesn't have gaudy stats, but you don't see him getting beat very often.

The pro bowl is just a joke. Its all about who are the best players on teams that have the best records.

It's about what players the voter recognizes. if none, then they say well Philly is good so their db must be good.

Good point, at least he will be familiar with his personnel. Maybe the NFC will win, and then they will get to host the super bowl next year....oh wait.....wrong sport.

I'm kinda under the opinion that our guys not making the ProBowl might not be all that bad a thing and may help in future contract negotiations. Anyone agree?

I hadn't really thought about it that way. That is a good point. Also the snub has our guys fighting mad. Just look at what Marcus Washington said:
Washington said the downside to making the Pro Bowl was the effect the snub may have on teammates who were not picked. "I know what kind of guys we've got in the locker room. We've got some competitors," Washington said. "Guys that walk around not with chips on their shoulders, but with blocks on their shoulders. I think they're definitely going to take it personal. They're definitely going to raise their game to an even higher level."

I read that too. Hopefully the ones who feel snubbed will take it out on the pukes this weekend!

The pro bowl still has the best voting system in professional sports. The fans votes only count for a 3rd of the total and coaches and players get to cast votes as well.
A couple of our guys got robber, but it's not all about stats. An offensive coordinator might change his plan of attack because Trotter is on the other side of the field, but I doubt that one would go to such trouble for Pierce, at least not yet.
