Simple question! What is the best live concert that you've ever been to?

I'll start it off by saying Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band at the Royal Dublin Showjumping arena in Dublin, Ireland in 1988.

I thought about saying the US Festival (Van Halen, Bowie, Quiet Riot, Judas Priest and a bunch of others) in 1982, but I was too drunk to remember it.

Here are probably my top 3.

U2 Unforgettable Fire tour 1985 - in NJ.

Lallopaloza (1st one) - 10 rows back, my ears rang for 3 days

REM - Cameron Indoor (DUKE) 1987.

Honorable Mentions: The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Bodeans, Fleetwood Mac (1976), AC/DC, Eric Clapton (1976), and Let's Active.

Elton John, Orange Bowl (1978) - yea, I'll admit it! Great show!

Sammy Hagar, Eddie Money, Night Ranger - same show (1983)

Bad Company, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, Stones - 80's

Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, Tonic, - 90's

I'm a parrot head. It's not just a "concert", it's the babes and the tailgating I love!

1) The "Warlocks" --- Unbelievable. Those who know will understand.

2) Monsters of Rock - European Tour

3) Damn Yankees/ Bad Company and any of the numerous BareNaked Ladies tours.

Megadeth/Pantera/White Zombie 1994. Mosh pit!!!

Just kidding. I think the HFStival a few years back was an excellent show. At least until the headliner came on. It was the first Red Hot Chili Peppers show since Anthony Keedis got out of the methadone clinic. He was terrible. He kept forgetting the words and the guitar player kept telling him what to do.

I was hoping someone would throw a needle on stage (ok, just kidding. I wouldn't wish that on anyone).

ah...I forgot an Iron Maiden show I saw here around '85....Eddie came crashing down on stage and my ears rang for days! Puked from all the screaming and excitement...or maybe that was the alcohol, etc. Regardless great show...thanks for the memory Brandon!

-Bad Brains at the Old 9:30 club in '88.
-The original HFStival when it was held at Lake Fairfax, VA and was 5 bucks, also around '88/'89.
-The first Lollapalooza.
-Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumkins and the Red Hot Chili Peppers at American U - around '92ish.
-Ween live - always a sick show.
U2 - Every time i've seen them they are ridiculously good (probably my favorite live act)
-Fugazi... every time I've seen them
-The Roots
-George Clinton and P-Funk

...I'm leaving a bunch out. I still go to a lot of live shows so it's hard to narrow things down. If I had to pick one great band/show - I'd probably say U2...

1.Portishead in Chicago (Never heard a live show sound better than the album) Front row center...Beth Gibbons leaned into the crowd for a light and for ONCE I was there...

2.Clash of the Titans (Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Alice in Chains) Deerfield, Indiana. Did not believe it was possible to Mosh that hard...also scored a Scott Ian autographed hat. Oh, forgot to mention that it was a free outdoor show...= ) Just had to pay the fair entrance fee of $5.

3.Soundgarden, Kyuss, Blind Melon, Pennywise, and two other bands which I can't remember for good reason. Frankfurt, Germany. Also front and center, and worth every bruise. Stage dove/crowd surfed for the first time...was everything it should've been.

4.Yngwie Malmsteen -- Jacksonville, Florida. Only worth the mention because he's a phenominal guitar player...but such an egotistical @$#@$%!. Played "Black Star" behind his head...which I didn't conceive as possible.

5.Metallica (By themself) Great show. Last album before they went glam. Saw Lars and James have a "drum" off.

6.Metallica, Faith No Moore, Guns N Roses. Best part of the show was seeing Mike of Faith No Moore hang upside down and sing the Nestle theme..."Nestle makes the very best, N E S T L E S. Guess you had to be there, but was hilarious. Also enjoyed Axle Roses' 8 costume changes and booing him offstage in his homestate because he called us all "Lame @ss Farmers."

Springsteen also. This one in particular. I was sitting next to some dude from London.

U2 is freakin awseome. Every show I have been to is killer.

Best one was Unforgetable Fire 1985, Cap Center.

Van Halen 1984 tour also kicked butt!

Worst ever: Easy- Genisis @ RFK. Forget the year. They played like 4 songs each one was about a 1/2 hour long. (not really but is seemed that way- either way, they sucked)

Bruce Hornsby - real cool- this was at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh. He put a hat on stage and took requests all night. people would write them down and he would periodically take them out of the hat and play them. He know's SO MANY songs it is unreal.

Had a great band behind him too.

Slayer. about 10 times. sound just like the cd. not over produced to the point of most heavy bands that sound like crap live. the real deal.

Tool. for the same reason. sound completely awesome live. too bad maynard is a sell-out.(perfect circle BLOWS)

Black Sabbath w/ Ozzy @ ozzfest '97. all the original members of the band back on the same stage after about 15 years. they started metal, and as a metalhead it was great to see.

Just a question...did Justice Hog's original answer have the Bay City Rollers, Bee Gees and the Village People as his favorites??

Honorable mention: Roger Waters at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, Calif circa 1985. WOW!!!!

1. Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead at Winterland Ballroom, January, 1968: just before the bands became so "big" they could only play at football stadiums

2. Junior Wells and Buddy Guy, University of Chicago Blues Festival, Spring, 1967

3. Crosby, Still, Nash, and Young at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, the evening that Nixon resigned. CSNY were fired up, there were 40,000 kids on the field, and I was a security guard assigned to kick people off the third-base light pole. For once that summer, I got to see an entire concert, and the band cared about putting on a show. Others (for instance, the Allmans) didn't even bother to tune or play together. I learned that rock&roll was mainly about roadies selling tee-shirts, and how much of a cut the promoter got. (But that's a different and longer story.)

I've been to three concerts in my life.
Not a great place to meet other deaf people, it turns out.
