Redskins Sign O-Lineman to Practice Squad
11/18/2003

The Redskins have signed center Ben Nowland to the team's five-player practice squad. He worked out for team officials on Tuesday morning. Nowland, 6-3 and 298 pounds, entered the NFL in May 2003 as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers. After spending most of the 2003 off-season with the 49ers, he joined the Carolina Panthers during training camp but was released at the end of August.

Nowland was a three-year starter at Auburn, starting 33 games in all. He was an All-SEC selection as a senior and rated one of the top 12 collegiate centers in the country by The Sporting News. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Nowland was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll his junior and senior seasons.

Sounds promising. But, it seems too many times this year someone elses table scraps have came our way. If they didn't want him...why should we. Just a question. I'd love to be wrong in my pessimism, but it unfortunately has been pretty accurate this season.
