Quarterback Patrick Ramsey said today he is not certain that he will be able to be in the Washington Redskins' lineup for Sunday night's game at Miami.

Ramsey, who is hampered by discomfort in his right foot from a bone bruise and the aggravation of an old fracture, said he hopes to play. Coach Steve Spurrier indicated that he expected to have Ramsey ready to start. But Spurrier added that he will get backup quarterback Tim Hasselbeck ready to play if needed, and Ramsey acknowledged there was some uncertainty about his availability.

"I don't want to be negative," Ramsey said at Redskins Park. "I felt like this last week and it got better. I'm going to try everything I can do to practice and play."

According to Spurrier, Ramsey received a cortisone injection in his foot on Monday. Ramsey said his foot was bothering him more than it did last week.

"It's something I've got to get under control to be as effective as I want to be and need to be at the position of quarterback," Ramsey said. "It's a bone bruise of something that's been injured. If I can go, I'm going to try to play. It's sore today, but I expected it to be sore. I think we expect it to be better [Wednesday]."

Asked whether he will be able to practice Wednesday, Ramsey said: "I don't know yet. If I can, I will."

Said Spurrier: "It's been about like that. I think it affected his hitch step and his footwork. He got a cortisone shot in it [Monday], and hopefully that will help him. I think he'll be able to go. He's sort of been off a few practices, although it was sort of with his shoulder some of those times . . . . We'll get Tim ready. Probably in all likelihood he's going to play somewhere. It could be this week or it could be in the future.''

Ramsey's not a ferrari...he's a rookie. If in fact next year he's still making the same mistakes, then by all means we will all slowly start to bash him together. But allow him some time to grow some roots. This is his first full year as a starter, albeit a rather painful one. Poor kid needs to be on a methadone drip while he's on the field. The fricken EPA could get soil samples off his uniform. But like I said, give him time...he's gonna be a pro-bowler, mark my words...

My 2 cents

i agree with what you're saying about ramsey, but i really wasn't bashing him, more like bashing the line and pass protection...

I know you weren't bashing him...I've read enouph of your posts to know where you stand. My response was towards our "guest." The sidestep, the toss the ball out of bounds when all receivers are covered, etc. will come with experience, trust in the O-line, and mastery of the offense.
