great talent, but a luxury pick, imo. We need D with this pick, either NT (I don't see any 1st rounders) or S/CB (there are first rounders who will be picked in the 2nd, or even 3rd). I will concede, he may be bpa on many boards at 17... But I suspect that it will be the best D player available.
With the right team, this kid will be a stud. I don't think our 'skins are that team... but, imagine the nightmare if Belichick got ahold of him. HE would know what to do with a weapon like this.

I'd like to see Rueben Foster, Christian McCaffrey or Malik McDowell. McCaffrey may seem like a luxury pick but a solid run-game would take a lot of pressure off of Kirk.

Foster is a game changer. Granted, I only saw him play a couple times, but from what I saw he was violent, disruptive and would instantly give the DEF an "attitude".
I am not a fan of drafting an RB in the first round. The ONLY RB I have ever seen that I'd take in RD1 was Elliott last year. He was the most impressive RB I've seen in the past 10 years enter the draft. There are some decent RBs this year, but none I'd take in RD1. I'd honestly take an OG before one of the three projected RD1 RBs.
Foster is the only guy I'm "in love" with that could potentially fall to us at 17. With Dumb & Dumber 2.0 at the helm, I fully expect an RB to be taken at 17 --- McCaffery in particular, who would sell a sh!t ton of jerseys.

. I don't know much about him yet, but I like what you're saying about defensive attitude. Would love to see that here. Been too long!

Rubin Foster would be a load as a Safety, which he feels is his real position, or as a situational LB... OTOH, his presence creates a bit of a dilemma, due to the company he would be coming into, creating a bit of a logjam of hybrid LB/S players.
McCaffrey would indeed, sell a load of jerseys. Interesting player who could be on the field for every play, as a RB, or as a slot receiver. Frankly, as I have already noted, I think he would be a luxury pick, which we can't afford. otoh... he would sell jerseys, and would be a very exciting YAC generating player to watch, who would quickly become Cousins security blanket, along with Reed.
My wish would be for a beast NT... but there are not likely to be any worthy candidates at 17.

Reuben Foster looks like Ray Lewis. Not kidding either.
Reuben Foster stands out on a defense full of NFL talent. In fact Foster looks like the best player whenever he's on the field. Saftey? No way. He excels at LB. Why even bother putting him at safety when his potential at LB is hall of fame.
I doubt he makes it past top ten.
It's a no brainer if Foster is there at 17. Just highly doubt the best Lb prospect to come out in 10 years. In an extremely thin Lb class makes it past 10. I'll jump up and down if that happens then order a large pizza.
The odds favor a top DB being available at 17. Either a S/CB. After Foster the drop-off is huge. Also a very deep RB class.
TES is very deep as well.
Hasan Reddick lined up as Lb in some plays during the Senior Bowl. Reddick deserves some consideration at 17. Zach Cunningham gets to the ball but his tackles look weak. I can imagine Zeke running him over.
On the other hand. I can see Reuben Foster blasting Zeke.
Enough fantasy. The odds favor A stater at DB, TE and Rb at 17. Most DL prospects Solomon Thomas and Jonathan Allen are projected to go top ten. Top safties Hooker and Adams also projected top ten. Foster could go no.2 overall the Niners need help everywhere. Bengals just let go of MLB Maualuga they may take Foster.
Most experts expect Jabril Peppers S,lb, Marlon Humphries cb,Christian Mccaffrey Rb, Malik McDowell DL, Calib Brantley DL, Zach Cunningham lb, Hasan Reddick DE,LB, and many late 1st round cbs.
From the above mentioned players. Marlon Humphries or Mccaffrey make sense. Brantley played well in college but could be had late 1st or 2nd. McDowell needs more time.
Yeah so if draft goes as expected. We either trade down or draft a corner or Rb. TE talent is deep enough to justify drafting one. Howard, Njoku and Engram are 1st round talent.
Saftey is deep if we can't get Adams or Hooker 2nd round we can grab one.
Our best bet maybe to trade down hopefully acquiring another 2nd and 3rd. We could then grab DL,S and LB. Or DL,DL,S.

Broncos and Redskins 'loom' for McCaffrey?
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Panthers, Broncos and Redskins "loom" for Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey.
McCaffrey to the Panthers at No. 8 has been the rumor du jour the past few days, while he was previously linked to the Broncos at No. 20. The Redskins at No. 17 are new. There have been multiple recent reports that McCaffrey could go in the top 10, but it still seems a little far-fetched. There's no question all three teams badly need running back help.

With Scott gone. Gruden will definitely have more say on the draft.(if he didn't already).
It's conceivable if Mccaffrey is available he would be best player available and the team drafts him.
Now if a top 15 prospect drops Mccaffrey or a defensive prospect then maybe not.

NFL draft history has shown that almost anything is possible with Dan Snyder and the long term impact is negligible
the best thing we could do is take the best players available - it's a shame but the odds are good that Dan will screw it up ... again

Seems like trading up have been taboo with the Skins outside of when we drafted RG3 of recent. I think we have some decent depth but I feel we have the need for impact players on the defensive side of the ball.
If you look at our recent drafts multiple picks didn't mean much for the defensive side of the ball. I wouldn't be opposed to moving up 5-7 slots and trading a pick or future rd..

please clarify - when do you think that Jay Gruden's input became more likely to be the last word or more relevant than Bruce or Dan's?
given that Bruce and Dan have not shown any sense with their recent decisions and Dan's record of making horrendous decisions regarding players and coaches since he purchased this franchise, why do you feel that he is now an owner that will responsibly manage this franchise?

I base it on the fact that Gruden is still here, he is the last man standing, the guy that designs the offense the guy that has repeatedly said he needs an RB that can lower his shoulder and punish a tackler. A bruiser. That is what he thought he was getting in Matt Jones. Gruden will be able to look Snyder square in the eye and tell him he needs an RB to make the playoffs and sell jerseys.

sorry oj, Dan Snyder will not be making draft decisions based on what Jay Gruden "needss"
for months now, Jay Gruden's most important need, has been to get Kirk Cousins signed to a long term deal - if Dan Snyder will not do that I'm not sure you can really think that he will take his advice on who to draft

its really does not matter who we draft or if we have Kirk Cousins play for only 1 more year or 10 more years - the most important difference between franchises is due to leadership - and, we have none
we'll be OK if we have Kirk Cousins, but ... we'll be a lot better if we have people in charge that know what they're doing

One thing I've been hearing more and more lately is that this isn't a great draft at DT. I know a lot of us including myself want to see d-line help, but I don't want to see the team reach either. Even though its a position of need, we might not see a draft pick at that position until later.

Pretty sure they're trying to get Jim Tomsula to revive Phil Taylor's career as a NT.
